Harpy Elizabeth Alderbrook NICKNAMES: Harpy AGE: 13 GENDER: Female RESIDENCE: Currently, The land surrounding District 9 OCCUPATION:Surviving SPECIAL INFO: A convict on the run FACE CLAIM: Sadie Sink PLAYER ALIAS: Abby
The war had destroyed Harpy's imperfect life. It had destroyed everyone's, she supposed, but at the moment, she was experiencing the damage more than ever. Her eyes stung, but she refused to cry. Instead, she swung the heavy axe that used to belong to her father, striking a small ravine in the dirt below. Anger suited her better.
Harpy's father had been a strong believer in the rebel cause. He was the source of Harpy's aggressive nature. He was always the first to start a fight and the last one to give up. But during the Dark Days of the war, this spirit did not bode him well; he was an important target of the patriotic side of the war. Eventually a brutally savage patriot attacked him and killed him, and they also killed Harpy's mother for good measure. The only reason Harpy survived was because she had been working her night shift at the paper factory and she wasn't home at the time.
Their family was pretty poor, and so they took what jobs they could get. Harpy's father worked days as a load puller while her mother stayed home to care for her new baby sister, Pippa. But that all ended when they were killed. At dawn, Harpy came home to Pippa's wailing and her parents bleeding out on the floor. There was nothing she could do.
Harpy's parent's death changed her, in more ways than one. She had always been the girl to call out people's wrongdoings as a youngster, as she had been taught to do by her parents from the day she was born. But after their murder, she learned to keep her mouth shut a bit more. She usually was not one to be up for taking care of a child, but since her sister Pippa had been left parentless, Harpy learned to be more nurturing, and she grew a big closer to her younger sibling. Harpy was always up for running and playing ceaselessly in the woods despite her late working shift, but she adapted to be quieter, stealthier, and more careful about what she did.
Harpy had left the district. With energy and manpower being diverted to other areas of Panem, the electric fence had been off. She brought her father's axe, a sack of goods, and her sister. She had little knowledge of how to survive. But she had no desire to go be a part of the new nation that had killed her parents, and her young, irrational mind had decided to run off to find a new life, one preferably outside of Panem.
Harpy watched as raindrops filled the little crevasse she had formed with the axe. That was what she felt like; and axe had been driven through her heart, and it had been filled with dirty raindrops.
She hiked Pippa up higher on her hip, pulling the axe to drag behind her as she pushed forward into the dark wood.
-----
I'm not really planning on having her succeed in her plan to escape. She'll get caught, and then be punished. Would she be made an alox? You guys said that this early in the new Panem's history, law enforcement wasn't nearly as violent. Maybe she and Pippa would be sent to district 11 or 12 or something? I'm ok with either way, but I was just curious.

Hello Abby, and thanks for making your first character here at Panem Today! Welcome to our site. Your application looks great, and Harpy sounds like such an interesting, troubled character. You're ready to move forward, and here are just a few things to know. - You can start RPing with Harpy. Here at Panem Today, we require first applications to be accepted, but if you make any future characters here, you can go ahead and start RPing with them as soon as the application is finished.
- Check out the other boards in the Character Development to add your character's information to our lists, like the member list, face claims, etc.
- Add your character to the appropriate group (District 9) by going to Profile > Groups. I know she's on the outside of the District 9, but it's the closest thing we have to representing where she is.
- We're an account-per-character site, and most people also have OOC accounts (like the one I'm using to post here)
- We have three chats here:
- The "shoutbox" at the bottom of each page is for ICC (In Character Chat). Characters can hang out here, even if they wouldn't normally meet in this world, because it's just for fun and not tied to plot.
- The chat that pops up on the left side of the site, where you can see members chatting, is for just chatting and hanging out OOC. You can post there as a guest or create a Chatango username.
- Slack chat, which is the link you'll see at the bottom of our pullout chat, is a separate and off-site chat used for PMing (private messaging) of other members and anything else we want. ((This last chat chat DOES require an invite, and if you message me your email address, I can add you to it.))
Thanks, and feel free to message me (or Eileen and Sydney , the other staff on the site) with any questions! On a purely plot-related note, I would love to plot with Harpy. I currently have a D9, Nydia Caden , though she'd only 8 and an orphan. She might be able to wander out upon Harpy, cuz she wanders off a lot. Or I could create a PK or some other D9 citizen to wander off and find Harpy. I'm down for whatever you want to do! Feel free to message me through here or Chatango, and/or you're also welcome to post a wanted ad to the site if you'd like!
