Pyra couldn't figure out the order of events as to how she got where she was with Finnick. She knew they were all there, but she didn't know how to piece them all together. The memories were there, like puzzle pieces, but as to what was when and how it all fit, she couldn't figure it out. She figured that the train station incident was right before her being in the prison, but it confused her. She didn't think about it. They were there, alone together, and there was nothing in her past that could be changed. Despite it all being jumbled, at least she had someone with her. Finnick was real, too, and she didn't have to impress him like she had to while being in the spotlight. To the real world, they were probably presumed dead. The Elswood girl was completely okay with that. She would rather the whole world be dead than the world try to bring her back into regular society. She didn't know if she would ever be ready for that.
She yawned as she leaned up against Finnick more. She didn't move her arm, and though it was kind of uncomfortable, she didn't care. She was exhausted. Pyra needed something--or someone--to lean on, literally. She remembered that she hadn't slept in what felt like forever. When they escaped the prison, the whole outside world kept her awake. The excitement had worn off though, and her tiredness had finally hit like running into a brick wall. She also had her shoulder dislocated and popped into place, shuffled around for hours trying to find Finnick, and carrying him to a safer place. She had a reason to be tired.
She listened to Finnick speak as she looked at the fire in front of them. So many thing had happened and it was hard for her to take it all in. In the past months, or years, of being in the prison, she hadn't had one good night's sleep. The bed was uncomfortable and there was always a looming fear of a Peacekeeper violently dragging her out of bed. That was why she never slept in the prison and practically had to pass out instead of sleeping. She was so afraid of what they would do to her if she closed her eyes. Pyra knew that she should've felt the same way now, with Finnick possibly being able to kill her and all, but she was more comfortable than she was in forever. There was always a possibility that Finnick would kill her in her sleep, though she wasn't afraid of that.
"Thanks," she said, when he accepted her apology. She gave a half-loped smile, the exhaustion showing on her face. She didn't want to see what she looked like. She couldn't imagine the bags under her eyes, the paleness of her skin, the fragility of her damaged hair. She was glad there were no mirrors where they were because she probably wouldn't be able to stop looking at herself. She honestly barely even knew what she looked like before she was in the prison. Maybe there were pictures somewhere of her, but she wouldn't want to see them. That person was probably completely different from her now.
Pyra listened to Finnick talk about how they were lucky to be alive and away from people. "You're right," she said. They were lucky. They weren't dead, they weren't in the prison, they weren't surrounded by people, and she wasn't alone. She honestly couldn't be more lucky. Out here, she needed to think of the positives no matter how hard it was. They had each other, and they might be able to gather food tomorrow. She had no idea where the boat was, so it seemed like they were stuck out here. She was alright with that, and she might be able to think better when she had some sleep. "We'll find a place, I know we will." Her voice was airy, and she started to close her eyes.
"I don't think I can stay awake any longer." She said with a chuckle. Pyra scooted down into Finnick's lap, her body turned on her good arm. "Thanks for being here, Finnick. I appreciate it." She closed her eyes. For the first time in a long time, she knew she would be able to get a good amount of sleep. WORD COUNT: 735 TAG: Finnick Odair NOTES: Dude yesssss. New thread after this?
