Lia wasn't sure why she was in the warehouse, standing among hundreds of people. She hadn't attended anything or gone to anything other than her job in years. It was a concert in a pretty shabby warehouse. It had started with her trying to get some sleep before it sounded like hell had erupted on earth. Loud music and someone screaming was what had gotten her out of bed. She'd been furious when she'd gotten up, forced to dress and then stomped down the street to the other side to find out what the hell was happening. She'd been surprised to see drunk people in the street and when she entered it'd been like entering a different world. Turned out they were having a concert in the warehouse in front of her studio apartment and for some reason she didn't want to leave. It was refreshing somehow, to just stand there and listen to the music while moving to the sound of the music. They'd even set up a bar so that was where she found herself standing, always ready with a drink in her hand. She'd come here with the intent of yelling at whoever was playing music so loud late at night but ended up enjoying herself. She didn't really talk to anyone and whoever approached her she just shooed away. She didn't care much about small talk or making new acquaintances, it was just her, the drinks and the music.

Eli closed up at the bar. Henry always let him close about an hour or sometimes two hours early when it was just him. Henry assigned Eli on the slow days to work just by himself at the bar. Most people that went there had gotten used to the way he did things when it was just him rather than with someone else. It was a mix of hard drinkers and women desperate to get his attention. The women didn't order drinks that much, he didn't know how to make their fancy drinks like Lia did. So they usually opted for something light. Some brave women had tried to go hard into liquor in order to impress him, but it always ended up with them passing out after a few shots. One of his customers told him about a concert going on. He couldn't stay out too late, he didn't like for Emilia to be alone too long. Though she had learned her lesson about staying inside no matter what. But since he did close up early, he figured he had about an hour or two before he should start heading back. Tomorrow was his day off, he could sleep in an hour later and then take Emilia to the market and perhaps she could find something for herself. A new book maybe. She did like books. Eli maneuvered his way through the throng of people until he was more towards the center back of the warehouse. There was a bar to his left, though he wasn't much interested in drinking tonight. He usually only just had one, if any. Eli had to keep a clear head. He had Emilia to take care of and he wasn't going to be one of those drunk parents with children. The music was loud and somewhat upbeat, something he could probably jump into when he was younger. But he was older now, he felt only slightly out of place. Perhaps one drink wouldn't hurt to loosen him up a bit. He walked towards the bar and spotted a familiar face. "Lia," he said almost in a question. He hadn't expected her to be here, it didn't seem like her type of place. He looked over at the bar, perhaps drinking wasn't such a good idea anymore. "Is this what you do on your days off? Go to concerts?" WC: 396 TAG: Jezelia Lennox

Lia was nodding to the music with a small smile on her face as she felt herself getting slightly intoxicated. When she heard her name she turned to the source, slightly shocked. Her smile widened when she saw that it was Elias. She couldn't help but laugh a little. "I was actually trying to sleep when I heard all the noise. You know I live right across this place right?" She shook her head a little with a smile playing on her lips. He probably hadn't paid any attention to where they'd gone last time. It had been a couple of days since they slept together and surprisingly enough, things weren't awkward between them. She actually felt like things were somewhat lighter and easier. Her brows furrowed when she looked back at him. " You're not one to go to concerts though, are you? So what brings you here?" she asked him, wondering if maybe, just maybe, he'd come to this neighborhood for another reason. She frowned to herself, wondering why the hell she even thought about that. She shouldn't even care. Why did she care? She hated when she didn't know things and this was definitely one of those situations. Lia decided to shrug it off for the moment. "So, can I get you anything?"

"Ah, so you were coming down here to tell them to keep the noise down?" he smirked, yelling over the music. Eli looked back towards the street, and nodded. He did remember, more clearly than he thought he would. "I do remember, very clearly," he said a smile playing at his lips. This was a bad idea. He shouldn't have come. But he couldn't help but think perhaps he'd meant to do this all along. Perhaps, in the back of his head, he had hoped she'd be here although it was probably a long shot. They worked together nearly everyday and yet, it didn't seem enough for him. Not after what had happened between them. There were so many people there. Too many. And the music was so loud he could barely hear her. Eli moved closer to her, intimately close so that their arms were touching. He laughed and looked over at the stage, shaking his head. "No, you're right about that. I probably would have been the one to come down and tell them to be quite before I called the Peacekeepers if they played across the street from my building," he said. Watching her was like seeing something wonderful for the first time. She was moving to the music, her body in perfect rhythm even if she wasn't actually dancing and only nodding her head. Eli shook his head, "I have to head home soon." "I've never really been much of a music person, too distracting. I prefer the sounds of nature. Leaves rustling in the wind, the sound of roosters calling out during the sunrise, trees falling from a distance," he said, remembering the woods of District 7. The tall trees that reached so high you could imagine them reaching the sky. The sharp hacks of axes and in the moments in between when there were no chopping, he could hear the faint sounds of cicadas. At night, he could hear the sounds of crickets from their back porch, the cool night air settling onto his skin. But here, in the bustling city of District 1, there was no nature. There were parks and some parts of the outskirts. But it was a concrete jungle with high rises and buildings for miles. WC: 380 TAG: Jezelia Lennox

Lia chuckled. "Well yes, I would've worn something else if I knew there was a party going on", she said and looked down on her outfit. It could've been a good outfit, though maybe a little slutty. It was a satin romper with just a knitted jacket over that fell down to her knees. She'd kept it wrapped around her romper previously but the knot had slipped lose the more drinks she'd had and the more she'd danced. She was definitely not dressed for the place but that wasn't really her main concern. She did however wrap it back around her body to show less skin, especially now that their arms were touching. Shivers dance down her spine for some reason and though she was smart enough to at least think of a reason or two as to why, she really didn't want to. She definitely didn't want to. She nodded understandingly when he mentioned that he had to go home soon. Lia figured it was because of Emilia and it made a lot sense. Hell, if she'd had someone that young to take care about she would've been way more responsible than she was now. A crease grew between her brows when he began to talk about nature and the sounds of it. They didn't have roosters in district 1, they'd never had that. And falling trees? At first she just looked at him, wondering what the hell he was talking about. But then it all made sense. He wasn't from district 1. And no one, not a single person had been able to change districts just because of the ongoing war. No one but... Lia's mouth dropped and the crippling pain that followed after seemed to crush her. Her glass fell to the floor and suddenly it felt like the entire room was spinning while closing in on her at the same time. She couldn't breathe, no matter how many times she opened her mouth, trying to inhale, if only a little. It began to smell like burnt flesh and smoke and despite the fact that she knew it was impossible, it was still that pungent, strong odor that was on her mind. That and the fact that she could barely breathe made her turn around and run out of the warehouse, feeling her insides turn. The moment she was outside everything she'd had to eat that day came out on the ground the same way it had entered. She still couldn't breathe right, gasping for air. She tried to count. One. Five. Ten. Seven. Thirteen. She'd read it somewhere a while back, that counting in disorder calmed anxiety attacks and it worked. She remained where she stood, her forehead pressed against the brick wall. This was the reason why she'd kept to herself and kept everyone away. He was a coworker and had somehow become her friend and for some reason it never occurred to her that he supported them and it killed her. It killed her inside to know that small, yet vital piece of information when it was the capitol who had taken her family away from her. They'd taken everything from her.

Eli watched her mood suddenly change. The glass she was holding fell on the ground where it shattered into tiny pieces, her drink making a round, spiked shape. His hands immediate reached out to her, holding her arms in case she fell. He was suddenly aware that perhaps she was having a panic attack or going into shock. He'd seen it many times with his victims and others who were in the war. Then she pulled away and ran out of the building. He was quick to follow her, the music never stopping and only seeming to get louder. People moved out of his way, parting as he ran until they were out of the warehouse. It was darker outside than it had been inside the warehouse. But there was less people and the air was cooler, not damp or heavy from the collective of people. Lia's back was to him as she faced the wall. "What's wrong?" he asked, his hands reaching for her shoulders. There was clearly something wrong, he didn't have to ask if she was okay, she wasn't. He should have some water with him, there was water inside. He should get her some water. But he had to make sure she wasn't going to pass out first. WC: 213 TAG: Jezelia Lennox

Lia felt tears burning at the back of her eyes but not a single drop fell. She was angry and upset but mostly just angry. It was as if all the anger she'd been carrying inside was scratching at the surface and it was all directed at herself. She was angry at herself for considering someone as a friend, for letting someone in, for thinking that maybe, just maybe, she could actually have friends again. As if that part of her hadn't died the moment her family drew their last breaths after getting burned alive or mauled with body parts all over the street. She heard his voice a second before his hands touched her shoulders. She moved away immediately, not caring about how he might take things. She didn't want him to touch her or talk to her. She doubted she even wanted to see him again. There was so much going on inside her mind and she didn't know what to do. She knew that so many people around supported the capitol, or at least they hadn't done anything to speak up against them but his case was different. No one got a transfer unless they'd done something good. Hell, she hadn't even been one to speak up or join the rebels until everything had been taken away from her. So when he asked her what was wrong, she couldn't even find the strength within herself to answer him. It was as if she'd travelled back 8 months when she barely spoke to anyone outside of work. Lia just turned away from him and began to walk across the street to her place. He was the last person she wanted to be around and if hadn't been for Emilia, she might have found herself wishing for his death. Just like she wished for the death and suffering of every person that had been involved with the killing of her family and so many others on that day.

She moved away from him, as if his touch disgusted her. He put his arms down, had he done something wrong? "Lia," he said quietly, slowly. What was going on? One minute she was okay, having fun, even and the next... Was it something he said? He replayed their conversation over and over in his head. He had said something wrong, he must have. But he couldn't figure out what. He stepped back from her slightly. "I'll get you some water," he said, but she had turned away from him and was moving away. He contemplated running inside the warehouse to get her some water to drink, but she was leaving. He looked up at her apartment building only a few feet away. Eli didn't move, only watched her as she crossed the street. Then the sirens came from a few streets down. In a matter of seconds, he could see the lights down the street. The Peacekeepers. This was a bad idea. A very bad idea. He shouldn't have come. He shouldn't have talked to her. Whatever was between them, it wasn't safe. Not for him and not for Emilia. It was him. He knew it was him that she reacted that way to. He didn't know what about or why, but it had something to do with him. With something he'd said. He'd let his guard down with her. He didn't even know her, not really, not like that. Not like someone he would trust with his life. With Emilia's life. Was he just being paranoid? She was already too far and it was already too late. Maybe it really was paranoia, but what if this moment was the beginning of bad things to come? He was reckless. Lia wasn't worth it, no matter what he felt. He had to protect Emilia. And there were only two ways to do that. Eli chose, he walked away from her, from the warehouse, from the street. He should tell Henry, Henry would need another bouncer. He pushed it out of his mind. Paranoid or not, he'd walk away, it was the safest thing to do. For Emilia. Eli ducked in between the buildings, avoiding the main roads. The Peacekeepers were probably only there for the concert, to tell everyone to go home, to arrest anyone not abiding by the laws. But he wasn't going to take any chances. If they questioned him, he'd be found out. And then it would all be over for him and Emilia. WC: 422 TAG: Jezelia Lennox
