Macaulay Jacob Vermillion
NICKNAMES: Mac, Slimmy, Funny Guy AGE: 15 GENDER: Male RESIDENCE: District 8 OCCUPATION: Student SPECIAL INFO: N/A FACE CLAIM: Seth Green PLAYER ALIAS: Rebecca
Personality Macaulay loves to laugh, and loves to make people laugh. He has a great sense of humor, and has the ability to turn even dark situations lighter. He's easy to talk to, if occasionally a bit awkward. He's a bit geeky, and while people don't always get the jokes or where he's going, the sentiment is there. He has good intentions.
Macaulay is smart as well, and a fast learner - especially if it's something he's interested in. He doesn't have the ability to fight though, or to defend other people. People might pick on him or try to get under his skin, and he can just laugh it off and try to just make it go away. He does really well in school, and usually goes a bit above and beyond what's needed for his schoolwork.
History Macaulay is the last in a long line of Vermillions - six, to be exact. His parents worked in a shoe factory and barely had enough to get the family by. Most of his very early childhood was spent with his older siblings, who took care of him. At as young as two, he discovered something he loved and could do well: making people laugh.
When the war hit, it didn't seem like there was much use for laughter. The Vermillion house got a little more serious. His father and eldest two siblings were sent off to war, and for the longest time, Macaulay didn't know exactly which side they were fighting for. Kids on the playground would ask him if he was a rebel or a Capitolite, and he would only shrug and make some joke about it.
During the war, one of his siblings died of pneumonia, another of some disease he couldn't name. Left with only the remaining sibling and his mother, Macaulay took to his role more seriously. Everywhere, life was depressing, but he wanted to find a way to keep their spirits up. When he was 11, his second oldest sibling came home missing a leg. He was a changed boy too, and even Macaulay could do little to enliven him. Then, when they came to the Vermillion house looking for another member to serve in the war, it was Macaulay who volunteered.
The 11-year-old boy could not fight, had no use on the front. He was incredibly skinny and didn't have the right temperament for battle. Still, there were uses for boys like him. He was small for his age, so the Capitol troop that took him in used him for more covert missions. He could get into small spaces, and he was smart. He could wire things after they'd explained how to do it, and do other detailed work. He was the only kid in his troop, and they took to calling him either Slimmy or Funny Guy - which it was hard to tell if the nicknames were derogatory or endearing.
When the war ended, Macaulay was sent back home. One of the siblings who'd gone off to war returned, but the other sibling and their father never did. Now, the 15-year-old is trying to find a new place in this post-war world and keep his family together.
