Kira was exhausted. Every time they stopped in a district, they would need to get off for a couple of hours and get back on. Both on and off the train, she would rehearse. It took her mind off of a certain someone that she was trying to avoid. But it was hard to avoid someone who was her boss and the director of the musical. They had gone through the different districts, picking men and woman to the roles in the musical. Somehow, she seemed like a prune in a batch of grapes. Nobody really cared about a chorus member, especially an older one. She kept herself holed up. She didn't really involve herself in the drama surrounding her. She just wanted to dance and work her ass off doing it. If that wasn't why people were here, then they needed to leave.
District 9 was nothing but grain and flat land. District 4 had oceans, District 5 had a rushing dam, and District 7 had lush forests. But District 9 was just flat land and nothing more. She didn't really care all that much since she wasn't much of a sight seer. A lot of the cast just stayed in the train, hooked on the drama that was lingering with all of them. Kira decided to go to what seemed like the only bar in District 9. She wanted to hole up here until she had to leave. It was better than trying to avoid awkward or annoying situations. Maybe she was grumpy because she used to be like them when she started out jobs and now she was sick of it. She almost wished she didn't have any experience before this.
She walked into the practically empty bar. She tucked her curly hair behind her ear and sat up at the counter. Kira looked at the drinks they had. Whiskey, bourbon, and beer. It wasn't much, but it would have to do. "Bourbon, please," she said nodding and smiling to the bartender. It was humid in the district. Her hair was frizzier than usual, which was hard to do.
Someone walked into the bar and she turned her head. It was Alec, their choreographer. She hadn't talked with him much, though he taught most of the dances to the chorus. The director worked more with the leads and the rest worked more with the choreographer. It was almost a blessing. He seemed like a nice guy, but because they were all so busy, there wasn't much time for chatter. People definitely found a way though. And he was a damn good dancer, one of the best she had ever seen.
Kira smiled to Alec. She didn't know how involved in the drama he was, but he seemed to want some sort of escape too. She assumed him and Oliver just got done auditioning people in the wheat district. She was ready to leave the district, but she needed a drink first. Maybe Alec felt the same.
"You want something? I'll buy." Kira was making very little from the musical. Because all of her food and travel expenses were covered, the Capitol couldn't afford to pay everyone the big bucks. She probably got $100 per show. Right now, she was spending her leftover money that she grabbed when she left home. She didn't care to spend it on anything and would rather put the money to good use instead of it just laying in her small cabin room. WORD COUNT: 583 TAG: Alec Penber

Alec watched Panem fly by the windows of his train as he traveled through the Districts. He’d never seen much outside of home, or anything really. There were his mother’s pictures of course. They looked like relics of a different world. In many ways, they were. Aside from singing and dancing, Alec longed to know more about what life had been like when she was young. She told him about the cities and the different Districts, about the way that she’d been free to roam among them before the Dark Days. He wanted those experiences so badly he could almost taste them. All at once, he had them. Alec went with Oliver throughout the Districts, combing through the talent there and teaching them as they went. Of everything so far, Alec loved the travel the most. Moving through the cities and the Districts and the land between them was so incredibly fascinating. As they moved through the Districts, he finally saw some landscape of his own. Endless fields of grain and wheat. He overhead some talk on the train. From what he stood, those from out of the District saw 9 as ugly and plain. Boring. Truthfully, it was anything but. Alec was in love with the way the sun shone over the fields in the evenings. It’s golden haze made the crops look like the precious metal itself, but instead spun out like thread that coated the landscape. The view had his heart. Beyond the beauty, there was stress. Alec felt the pressure of helping Oliver craft the perfect musical. It was his job now, and he wasn’t trying to please just any crowd - he was trying to satisfy all of Panem. The thoughts kept him up at night sometimes. In his car, he’d dance on and on into the night to the brink of collapsing from exhaustion. His muscles burned as he worked to craft the perfect dances and exercises for the piece. It played hell on him at times, and during those times, he needed a drink. Alec stood from the seat he’d taken by the window, leaving his things there. He meant to take a short trip to the bar cart and return with a beverage to knock back in the interest of making the day a less stressful one. He passed through the cars, headed straight back. As he entered the car, he caught sight of Kira, one of his dancers. Her talent stood out to him in a particular way. She was older by almost a decade than the rest of the cast, but she worked harder. As the choreographer, Alec deeply appreciated her work ethic and had grown to truly respect her. He returned the smile to her, dropping onto the stool beside her. ”Oh, there’s no need. Thank you, though,” he responded politely at first. Though he couldn’t form exact numbers, he knew that Oliver’s earnings dwarfed his which dwarfed the leads’ which dwarfed the choruses’. If anything, he should be buying her the drink. Alec didn’t care to point that out for fear of being rude, but made a note to offer to pick up the tab as he left the cart. ”Whiskey,” Alec requested of the passing bartender. He then turned in his stool to face Kira and leaned against the counter. ”So, what do you think of it?” Alec asked, vaguely gesturing around them. ”District 9, that is.”Words: 587 Tags: Kira Collins

"No problem," Kira replied when he responded to her offer but declined. She didn't mind paying for people she either knew nothing about or liked. She hadn't made any friends on the tour. She preferred it to be that way. Besides, she didn't have a lot in common with most of them. She was from the Capitol while most of the others were younger and from the Districts. She had always been in the dance scene while the others were fairly new to an extravagant lifestyle. She knew that she was probably more privileged than most of them too. It was hard not connecting with other people, but that's how she was most of her life. She liked to keep to herself, especially with work. Sometimes it was different, like with the case of Oliver, but that was another story that she didn't want to think about right now.
When Alec asked what she thought of District 9, she tried to stay positive. Kira turned to him. She hadn't gotten asked her opinion of anything in a good while. She wondered why he was asking. "I like how the air is so clean here. It's not the artificial air we breathe in on the train almost every minute of the day," she said with a smile. The bartender came over and put their drinks on the counter. She took a sip from it. "It's not really my forte. I grew up in the big city, so this kind of environment is completely different for me." Kira was never used to the quietness that often grew at night in District 2. She couldn't imagine how quiet it was in District 9. She didn't know if she would even be able to sleep with how silent she assumed it was at night.
She looked out the window. There wasn't much to see. Fields of grain that seemed to go on for endless miles, a clear sky that held a few puffy clouds, and lots of dirt. "The work here must be hard. It's a lot of physical labor, right?" She asked. She wondered what district Alec was from, though by the way he asked about the district, she thought this might be his home. He looked like a country boy in his own right. "Are you from here?" WORD COUNT: 392 TAG: Alec Penber

Alec Kira’s opinion was interesting, positive even though Alec could’ve sworn she was among the voices calling the place boring. Even if she thought that, he thought it was nice that she could still pick out beauty in the District. He understood what she said. It was easy to breathe in the massive, open plains beneath the light blue sky. Alec absolutely hated places like District 8, where the pollution in the air practically choked him. Even compared to the train, as she said, 9 was an oasis of its own sort. He smiled at her comment. It was the opposite for him. ”The big city is so overwhelming,” he told her. There were so many lights and people and sounds, like the whole thing was a massive sensory overload. ”Sure is beautiful there, though.” Part of the overload was that everything was so deserving of his attention that Alec just wanted to take a whole year to explore a city, to learn it the way he knew his home. He couldn’t imagine growing up in one of the bigger Districts with cities. Life would be so different, and he’d come to love his small life, appreciating the small details. ”Mm,” Alec said, taking a sip of the drink that slid across the bar to him, ”People define hard differently. I, for one, think watching a screen in a power plant or sitting at a desk making would be hard. Physical labor isn’t so bad. Keeps you up and moving.” That labor was his whole life. Since he was a young child, he worked to plant crops, tend to them, and eventually harvest them when the time came. It was as normal to him as breathing was. ”Sure am,” he told her, taking another glance out the window. ”You’re from 2, right?”Words: 315 Tags: Kira Collins

It was nice to have a non-gossip related conversation with someone. Kira liked small talk and didn't have it much anymore. Some people hated small talk with all of their heart, but Kira enjoyed the chatter. It wasn't super intense and it didn't have much meaning behind it. It was just two people drinking, rambling on about the basics of their lives. She took another sip of her bourbon. She hadn't gotten drunk yet on the train, probably for a good reason, but she wanted to tonight. In her mind, she deserved it. She hadn't drank in a couple years since she didn't have the time or the money in District 2, and drinking could be hard on her voice. Kira took care of herself and considered herself a pretty serious person, but with the drama bullshit surrounding her, she needed to let loose every once in a while.
When Alec described the Capitol as beautiful, she couldn't agree more. It was beautiful. In her mind, it was the most beautiful thing she'd ever seen. There was nothing like the Capitol anywhere else in Panem, and every sight was breathtaking to her. She missed it more than anything. She loved the colors, the nightlife, the people, and the opportunities. It was something that she wished she could've realized before she left.
"I know exactly what you mean," she said, responding to Alec's comment about physical labor versus sitting down and doing nothing as work. "We are dancers after all. We get up and move and basically do nothing but that." She took another drink. Either she was thirsty, or traveling in small cars with loud people was driving her up the wall.
When he asked if she was from two, she shrugged. "Yep, that's where I live anyways. I spent most of my life in the Capitol up until about a year ago when the war ended. Didn't have enough room for most struggling artists." She took another sip. She said the words like she didn't care that she was moved out of her home. That was how she did feel, really. She didn't dwell on the past. From the ups and downs in her life, she learned to live in the moment. There was nothing else she could do about it. She downed the whole glass of bourbon. She nodded towards the bartender to signal that she wanted another one.
"So, uh, what do you think of our director? You know, like in a professional sense." Kira tried not to laugh. She had sunken to the low level of gossiping, but it might have been the alcohol talking. Shit, after only a glass, she was already tipsy. Damn bourbon. She didn't know how much he knew about her and Oliver, but she didn't bring it up. She knew she was gossiping, but she couldn't help it. She wanted to know what people thought of the great and genius Oliver. She wasn't going to tell him, of course, and she didn't care if Alec told him that she was talking about him either at a later time. WORD COUNT: 470 TAG: Alec Penber

Alec smiled at Kira’s assessment of their “home” jobs and their passions. He’d thought the same thing many times, too, but there’d not been a place in 9 for him to deliver that and have it be understood. Alec treated his body as a tool, as a part of himself to master and train and bend to his will. Of course it made sense that his mindset wouldn’t change automatically when he stopped dancing. It was an integral, irrevocable part of him. Being in the train, even, made Alec restless. He danced in his own room, of course, and during practices with cast members. But the sitting between those things bored him horribly. He’d much rather be up on his feet and active. Kira’s explanation of her background made Alec raise a bit of an eyebrow. He’d never known anything other than 9. It had been his home for life. He also didn’t fully understand what being a struggling artist was like. Dancing had been something like an incredibly serious hobby of Alec’s - never his job, but something he gave all of his free time to. ”So, is that where all of you went then? 2?” Alec knew very little about the consequences of the rebellion in and around the Capitol. 9 was distant, far removed from starving artists and relocations. Finally, Kira hit the topic that Alec was waiting on. He doubted she knew, but Oliver had told him absolutely everything. Alec knew of their long relationship in the Capitol, of Oliver’s plans to propose, and eventually of Kira’s disappearance from Oliver’s life and his heartbreak. For a moment, a sliver of a terrible smile slipped out before Alec managed to control it. He was the choreographer of the musical, not some part of the gossip mill. It was all so funny, though, especially because of what the cast did or didn’t know. Truthfully, Alec was struggling at the moment to think of the director in a professional sense. Just the night before, and for many nights before that one, Alec spent the night in Oliver’s bed. Alec took care to leave before anyone else noticed, not wanting to cause any sort of drama before the musical had even begun. He couldn’t let his care go to waste now. What do you think of our director? The answer to the question was written out across his bodies in the bruises Oliver had left there last night. Alec took a deep sip of his drink. ”Well,” he said, playing far more professional than he actually was, ”I think he’s extremely talented and brilliant, really. The director cares a lot about the direction of the whole musical and is really going to do a good job.” That much was true, of course. ”What’s your opinion on him?” he asked, secretly wanting to gauge her feelings on the matter and slide into the drama that he told himself he wanted to avoid. "No," Kira said, responding to Alec's question about all of them going to District 2. "Most went to District 1 or 4. Some were allowed to stay in the Capitol even if they had an easy job, like working at a coffee shop or something. At that time I was trying to live off whatever career I had and it backfired." She didn't know why she was placed in District 2. It was probably luck of the draw, she assumed, though it wasn't a district that she would pick at all. Still, they gave her a fully-paid home so she couldn't complain too much. She just wished that she didn't rely on her Capitol modeling career so much and worked part-time like most performers did. She didn't regret it, but everybody had their wishes. That was one of hers.
When Alec talked about Oliver, she definitely agreed with him. He was talented and passionate. She remembered when the two first met, that's where he was too. He was so passionate that he would get lost in his work sometimes. When she read his plays when he had downtime, they were brilliant. Kira missed those times, when it was the two of them against the world. Now, he didn't have time for her. It was a bitter feeling that Kira was really trying to get over, but she knew it was her fault. For all she knew, if she never left, they might have been married now. Their paths went completely different ways though, but they were somehow brought back together. She didn't know if it was for better or for worse.
She took another large sip of the full glass that the bartender brought to her and paused when Alec asked the same question back to her. She should've been able to answer it willy-nilly, but the alcohol was clouding her judgement. If she was sober, she would probably just recite the same thing that Alec said but in a different way. One and a half glasses of bourbon in meant that she obviously didn't have the focused mind that she normally had.
"Mhm, I agree," she said, nodding and finally breaking the silence. "He's a pretty smart guy and good at what he does. But I'm not sure...maybe he's just too into his work. Maybe he doesn't care for anyone else except if they're in his work then they're a part of his work. Maybe he doesn't take into account other people's feelings and leaves them stranded when they need help." She knew she had gone too far and she cleared their throat. "With their dancing, of course." She looked over at Alec and took another large drink of the alcohol. She was normally pretty good with controlling her emotions when it came to things like this. She was just turning into another gossip girl. WORD COUNT: 480 TAG: Alec Penber

It once occurred to Alec that he’d never heard Kira’s side of the story. No matter what, he trusted Oliver. He had no reason to lie - he’d given Alec an ugly picture of the past, seemingly one that was not glossed over. Alec did understand that sometimes, people didn’t even realize that others had an entirely different perspective of a situation. What if there was something on Kira’s mind that Oliver never thought of? The thought materialized in Kira’s angry words. Alec blinked a few times at her in surprise. He hadn’t expected an outburst like that, but maybe she was more drunk than he realized. After the surprise, deep worry set in. Alec had the same worries himself. Oliver felt too good to be true in literally every single aspect of the relationship they shared. It was nights spent laying on Oliver’s chest, kisses snuck backstage when no one was around, and long talks at night on his couch about anything, really. He couldn’t part from the sneaking suspicion that something was horribly wrong with him, something that would eventually make Oliver leave him. He was quiet for a moment. ”Of course,” he agreed, poorly at first. Kira had to know. She had to know. Kira knew that Oliver and Alec were attaining something she never shared with Oliver. It was her goal to shake him, to make their relationship falter and split them up. Since her audition, Kira realized she made a horrible mistake in leaving Oliver. That was surely the answer. ”Maybe he has to be into his work, you know? You have to be committed when you’re running something as significant as a musical. It’s constantly giving everything you have to ensure that the whole production doesn’t crash and burn. You can’t just get up and walk away from that. You have to stay and care as much as you can.”Realizing that his words sounded far more hostile than they intended, Alec called for another drink immediately before finishing his own. He couldn’t handle this sober. ”This, of course, with the dancing,” he repeated. Was she jealous? Were there rumors? Deciding to test his luck, Alec raised the corner of his mouth before attempting the next question. ”What about the choreographer? What do they say about him? I’ve heard he can be a real dick sometimes.”Words: 435 Tags: Kira CollinsNotes: Jesus Alec, stay in your lane

Kira should've known that he would've stuck up for Oliver. Everyone else did. She wouldn't be surprised if he told the whole crew how terrible of a person she was for leaving him. Not many people knew her side, but after the sap story that Oliver seemed to give, it was hard to even get people to listen to her. She was the bad guy because she left. She could tell by Alec's words that he knew the whole story. Kira was upset, as Oliver thought that it was okay for him to tell people their deeply personal story to her coworkers. If she told everyone how she felt and made him feel like he was the bad guy, he probably wouldn't appreciate it. But it didn't matter, because he was the great director. She was bitter, jealous, and drunk--three of the worst combinations a girl could have.
For Kira, it seemed like it was her against the world. Her age was against her, her coworkers were against her, her director and choreographer were against her, and the business was against her. She couldn't handle it. She knew she would become a raging alcoholic in no time. Alec said some harsh words even though he knew nothing. Oliver could've told him everything, but he wasn't there. He didn't know her side and it wasn't his place to judge her. It pissed her off, but the anger eased away with another drink.
"Don't judge me if you don't know both sides." She said casually. It wasn't in an angry fashion. She was past the point of no return when it came to that. She finished off her second drink. Kira wasn't normally one for revenge, but when it came to how Oliver was treating her, she thought it wouldn't be such a bad idea.
Kira looked over to him and smirked. "Well I've heard that he's a pretty handsome guy. I've also heard that he's sort of a tease, but in the end, I've heard that he's quite good in bed." Kira was really testing her luck. She heard rumors about Oliver and Alec. She was being absolutely awful. She wanted to blame it on the alcohol, and some of it she did, but if she was doing this right now, there wasn't going to be anything good out of it.
"It's a bit hot in here, isn't it?" She said to the bartender, but obviously meaning for Alec to hear it. She was glad that there were only three people in the car--Alec, herself, and the bartender. She looked over at Alec. "Is there a cooler place we can go? These clothes are getting awfully stuffy on me." Kira was awful. She knew it, but she couldn't help it. She had to prove to Oliver that he wasn't the only one who could flirt and get men. She had to do the same thing and play the same game. She also knew that it would be nice to get laid. As much as she didn't want to admit it, it had been months since the last guy she slept with. WORD COUNT: 527 TAG: Alec Penber

Kira was a bit less angry than Alec thought he deserved for the malice in the word’s he’d said to her. He swallowed his next drink all at once, cringing slightly at the horrible taste. Alec accepted the next one that slid to him. Already, he began to feel fuzzy and light. ”Refraining as much as possible,” he told her in complete honesty, ”it’s very hard as a human to not be biased. Doing my best, though.” After a moment, when the sickness in his stomach from the first drink was gone, he took the first sip of the third. It was now his goal to get drunk fast. Alec barely kept his cool at her response to his question. What was she getting at? This time, his eyes lingered on her, or, more specifically, her body. Alec forced his gaze away. Oliver. He and Oliver weren’t exclusive. He’d seen the way Oliver looked at Miles, felt his stomach twist violently in response. If Oliver had fun, why didn’t he, too? After all, Kira was attractive. She had a dancer’s body, and there was something about her red hair… Even though Alec felt guilt behind his actions, he felt himself proceeding. ”Wow, I wonder where people hear such despicable things like that,” he mused, laughing a little. At her direct offer, Alec smiled a little wider. The more he thought about it, the more he wanted to. ”I can think of lots of places,” he said, finding his wallet in his pocket. Alec stood from his seat, removed his wallet, selected a bill enough to pay for both their tabs (and a bit more to ensure secrecy) and placed it on the counter. ”My room’s just in the next car,” he said to her in a slightly lower voice to her, placing his hand on the small of her back as he guided her away from the bar. Kira could see the way Alec looked at her. Though she had about three years on him, he still seemed to appreciate her body. It was nice to still have people look at her like that. She often felt old, especially around a crowd of people that were ten years or younger than her, and it made her self-conscious. Kira knew that sleeping with Alec was wrong, but Oliver was treating her like shit. She wanted to make up, but he kept telling people about their past and how she was the bad guy in the story. It was hurtful, and though she wasn't necessarily using Alec, she wanted to prove that she could sleep with other men too. She was attractive and desirable. Kira wanted to have fun too, and Alec was an extremely attractive guy that was definitely her type.
The red-haired woman stood up from the bar, seeing Alec paid. She felt bad because she didn't want him too, but now was not the time to argue with something like that. She felt a hand on her back, enjoying the gentle touch even though it wasn't sexual. She nodded and smirked as the two of them went into the next car and down the hallway. She didn't see anybody, but that didn't mean there wasn't anyone watching. Kira didn't care though. If people saw them and wanted to spread rumors, that was their choice. If anything, she wanted Oliver to hear that she was perfectly fine without him.
Alec opened up the door and led the two inside. He had a lot nicer of a room than she did, but that wasn't on her mind. She really knew nothing about Alec and his personal life, but despite that, they were about to sleep together. Kira never really had hookups, if she was honest, as she wasn't a hookup type of person. It must have been the air around her or the fact that Oliver was here and she had to prove something that she had a sudden change in heart.
When the door shut all of the way, she took off her dress immediately and wrapped her hands around Alec, kissing him for the first time. It was all a rush--the alcohol, the feeling of hooking up with someone, and the fact that they were in a cabin in a train. She could definitely say that this was a first. She ran her hands through the man's hair. Her eyes were closed. I wish this was Oliver, she thought to herself in the heat of the moment. Oh god no. Nope, she did not just do that. But it didn't matter. She kept going, staying silent as she rubbed a hand on his chest and kept going lower. This was going to be better than Oliver. She wouldn't think about him. She would think about the man in front of her. She would think about Alec and nothing else. WORD COUNT: 496 TAG: Alec Penber

Everything was happening so quickly. Alec felt his world - hazy, dizzy - contracting on him as he walked to his room with Kira. They were there in a second. As soon as he’d opened the door and shut it behind him, she was naked and her body pressed to his. Kissing her was instinctual. It required no thought. Neither did unbuttoning his shirt and letting it fall to the floor, or letting his belt join the ever growing pile of clothing dumped by the door. Kira’s hands were in his hair and her mouth on his. From an objective point of view, the contact felt nice. It was far different from being with Oliver, obviously, but not only in the most apparent of ways. Kira’s whole attitude to the thing was intrinsically different. It felt exciting. Alec lost the rest of his clothes quickly, pulling Kira along with him to the bed against the wall right behind them. He blinked, and then she was on top of him and he wanted her so badly as he set about exploring her. Oliver. Oliver had told Alec how much he missed Kira at times, how badly she hurt him when she left. Alec was now in bed beneath that same woman who’d hurt the man he loved. It felt wrong. It felt worse than wrong. Guilt seeped into Alec’s mind, permeating his daze momentarily. No. Alec remembered the way that Oliver looked at Miles. Alec envied that. He kissed Kira harder now and flipped so that he was the one on top of her now. Oliver, he thought again. It felt impossible to forget him. He felt the thoughts permeating his lustful drunkenness. Oliver. Trying to escape the thoughts, Alec buried them underneath his drive for Kira. Words: 305 Tags: Kira Collins

Kira was a passionate woman no matter what it came to. She was with dancing, with her emotions, and with her relationships. So saying that Kira was "thrown into the heat of passion" would explain her perfectly in the situation with Alec. She could feel in the moment with him despite her rarely opening her eyes to see him. She enjoyed his company, but Kira was annoyed at herself. He was like Oliver in so many ways--soft lips, smooth skin, and almost the exact height. His hair was thick and they had a similar bone structure. Why was she even thinking this? It had been five years, those feelings should have been suppressed into the depths of her mind. And, for a long time, they had. But seeing him again made her want him, long for him, and though Alec was the one that was kissing and touching her, she could only think of the man she almost married.
She thought of herself as a terrible person as her body was pressed against Alec's. Was she just using him to get back at Oliver? Or was she just wanting to get laid? Maybe it was a little bit of both. She was dizzy from the alcohol and she had a lack of judgement. It didn't really matter though, did it? This was a casual hookup between two coworkers. Though all of this was going through her mind, it didn't stop her from really going at Alec. She would open her eyes every once in a while to give her a reality check that it was Alec she was with.
Alec was kissing her harder, and she back. He was on top of her, and this was going to happen. She felt so many things, but the most thing she felt was guilt. Kira knew that this was wrong, and she had heard the rumors between Alec and Oliver. She heard that they were getting close with each other. Maybe that was her reason to sleep with Alec. She wanted to break whatever--or what they didn't--have. But Kira wasn't like that. She wasn't a homewrecker. She wasn't one to get revenge on someone because they didn't love her anymore. As much as she wanted to be that person, she just couldn't. Though it might have been too late to realize it.
"I--" was all Kira could manage to say before she was kissed by Alec again. She didn't know what she could say. She could just apologize and go all the way. But Kira knew she couldn't do that. Not to herself, not to Alec, and definitely not to Oliver. WORD COUNT: 443 TAG: Alec Penber

Alec knew he was forcing himself forward in the situation. Did he want to sleep with Kira? The answer was a strong “maybe”. Kira was beautiful, and his physical response was undeniable. Mentally, though, he was absolutely not in the right spot. Oliver. Alec couldn’t stop thinking about the director. It didn’t help that they’d been together just the night before. His back still bore the marks of the night before, he was almost positive. Thankfully, though, there had been no way for Kira to see them. Alec wanted Oliver again. He wanted him in this very instant. Alec tried once more to delve into the moment, to force himself to carry the whole thing out. After kissing Kira for a few moments and letting his hands roam, he pulled back for a moment. Alec had to go through with it. He stopped, leaning over to reach the drawer beside his bed. He was really doing this. Alec grabbed what he needed, then turned to look at Kira sprawled out beneath him on his bed. He wanted her, but it was wrong. He looked at her for a second longer, then sat back. ”I… don’t think I can do this,” he told her, his voice very quiet. Words: 240 Tags: Kira Collins

Kira wasn't going to say no. She wasn't going to deny that she wanted Alec. She did want him, but she wanted him for the wrong reasons. Still, she was the one that lead Alec on. She couldn't just stop because she felt guilty. She felt good though. She liked that she was in bed with Alec and that he wanted her. At least someone did. It honestly seemed like nobody was interested than her. They were either 10 years younger than her or Oliver and Alec. She didn't really have much of a choice, if she was honest with herself.
When they were about to go all the way, Alec paused for a second. It was only a second, and the words that came out of his mouth was something she didn't expect. I don't think I can do this. The world got quiet for a second except for their breathing, almost synchronized. She then sighed. Was it her? Was she just ugly and he didn't want to do this? No, she thought. She was smarter than that. He was attracted to her, or was, at least. "Oh, thank god," were the words that escaped her lips. It wasn't something she meant to say, but she said it.
"I didn't mean it like that. I just meant that I was having doubts too. Guilt is more like it." Kira normally didn't tell people how she felt, but she felt like she had to explain herself. It wasn't every day when a man stopped getting laid to say something and another person, especially the person that instigated it, agreed. "If you don't mind me asking, why?" Were the rumors true? Were Alec and Oliver really getting close? She supposed it didn't matter, and that it only mattered what his opinion was. She wanted to know. Maybe that way, she would understand her feelings more as to why she agreed with him. WORD COUNT: 325 TAG: Alec Penber

Alec’s heart hammered in his chest sporadically as soon as the words left his mouth. It was quiet for a moment. Alec froze, startled at himself. When Kira responded, he only went into shock further. It was not at all the reaction he’d expected. ”Thank… thank god?” Alec repeated. Had he heard her correctly? Alec pushed up from his spot on the bed, standing on the floor in front of Kira, watching her closely. Then, she described exactly what he felt. Doubts. Guilt. Oliver. The why was harder, but Alec felt like he owed Kira an honest answer. After a moment of hesitation, he answered. ”I’m… with Oliver now. I don’t even know in what way.” Was he just using him for sex? ”I know how Oliver says he feels, and it’s ‘open,’ obviously, but, I know how I feel. That’s definite. And this feels wrong. If he heard about this, he’d be so hurt and upset.” Kira was probably the wrong person to tell all this to, but she was the one present. ”I… want him.” Alec said. ”He’s everything I’ve ever wanted and I’m so f*cking scared of losing him. I just.. can’t do this with you right now because of that. I’m so sorry that I let it get this far.” He felt a wave of guilt. How had it been allowed to get this far, and, besides, how had he let himself tell her all these intimate details, and about her ex boyfriend, no less? Words: 278 Tags: Kira Collins

Kira listened to Alec. She knew exactly how he felt, and yet, she was really hurt. Hurt that, at this moment, Alec chose someone that wasn't in the room over her. She didn't feel attractive or worked up anymore. Instead, she felt like a thousand arrows pierced her heart. Though she knew how he felt, since she basically agreed to stop for the same reason, it was still a feeling of disappointment. Someone choosing Oliver over her, especially here, was heartbreaking. Oliver had already won their game by being successful and having professional control over her. Now, with Alec also choosing him over her, she honestly couldn't take it.
"Yeah, I understand," she said. She got out of the bed, feeling embarrassed and undignified. She picked up her dress off of the floor and put it back on. "I know you care about him, I can see it, but he'll hurt you and make you seem like the bad guy. If you guys have been together, you've probably heard a thousand awful things about me. I don't think you know how that feels from my point of view." Kira didn't know what else to say. She couldn't take the feeling of humiliation, especially in front of Alec and his open heart laid out in front of her.
She took out her wallet from her dress pocket and set some money on the table. "Here's for the drinks." She was bitter in a way that she wouldn't though she would be. Yes, she felt guilt that she was sleeping with Alec and she was relieved that he stopped, but when he poured out his emotions to her, she was instantly jealous. Why did people want Oliver and not her? She was tearing up. "I better leave." She wiped a tear that was running down her face. She walked out of the room, not caring who was in the hallway or who was seeing her leave. WORD COUNT: 326 TAG: Alec Penber

Alec could tell that he’d hurt Kira. He could see it in her eyes. Even though she, too, didn’t want this to happen, she seemed very bothered about Alec’s reasoning. He just felt he owed her the truth. When Kira began to dress, Alec noticed that he was naked, too. Modesty didn’t feel terribly important to him, especially when he’d just been about to have sex with Kira after she’d seen him and touched him, but for courtesy he quickly found his underwear on the floor and pulled them on. Alec frowned, hating how hurt she sounded about the whole thing. It hadn’t been his goal to hurt her at all. ”Kira,” he said, reaching out to stop her as she ran to fled, grabbing at her arm. ”Please, just - I’m really sorry. I know it’s far too late for this, but I genuinely feel bad about this. And, for what it’s worth - which is probably not anything at all, actually - this isn’t about you at all.” Alec quietly cleared his throat. ”I mean, you’re very beautiful. Obviously,” he said, adverting his gaze as he remembered that there was still physical evidence of that opinion. ”It’s not about you at all, as cliche as that sounds,” Alec repeated. ”I just… I want to know how to make this better, if I can.”Words: 240 Tags: Kira Collins

Kira felt like she stuck out like a sore thumb when it came to everyone else, and now, she would even more so. Oliver didn't look at her like he looked at the other dancers, and now, her choreographer wouldn't be able to look at her without seeing her vulnerable and naked underneath her. To her, it was such a bad feeling. She just wanted to have a good time in this musical--one last hoorah before she turned 30 and nobody wanted her anymore. She wasn't 30 yet and they haven't even started the musical, and it still seemed like nobody wanted her.
"I know, but I can't help but loathe you because of it," Kira said to him. She wasn't angry, though she was bitter and frustrated. She was frustrated that he was choosing Oliver over her. She turned towards him and shook her head. "There's nothing you can do to make this better." She knew it was her fault that she felt this way. She could show understanding or compassion, but she refused to do so.
She removed her arms from Alec's. She was jealous beyond what she had experienced it before, and she wasn't proud of that. She really didn't like that she felt that way. Kira sighed and looked at Alec. She was speechless. "Next time, don't leave a woman naked in bed before you decide that she isn't worth it." Kira was very backhanded about it, but it was how she was feeling. She knew that she shouldn't have let the words out, knowing it might hurt Alec, but she had already been hurt. She was done. Kira’s words stung. She loathed him? Alec shifted uncomfortably. He hadn’t realized the situation was this serious. Already, the alcohol had fully set in, making him feel dizzy and removed. His world spun slightly. Too drunk for this.Nothing he could do to make it better. She loathed him. Nothing he could do to make it better. Alec blinked a few times as she pulled away from him, trying to decide what he should do to help her. She said there was nothing, but he couldn’t tell in his haze if she was being bitter and cryptic. If Kira’s first words stung, her last words burned. He could feel the hate behind them. For some reason, those bothered him into action. ”Kira… do you hear yourself?” Alec asked. ”I know this really f*cking sucks and that it’s embarrassing but… you didn’t want this either. You said ‘Thank God’, if I remember correctly. You said you doubted this and felt guilty. Why the change in mood? Why the doubt and guilt initially?”Words: 203 Tags:Kira Collins
