It was well past midnight and they left The Capitol hours ago. With only three passengers in the train, some equipment, and box loads of booze, they traveled across distances to their first stop, District One. He knew that Alec was the one when he saw him dance that first time. The air seemed to sway with him, heat sizzled off him, his body charged with electricity. Oliver was hypnotized, unable to take his eyes off him, unable to think. He'd found the one he'd been looking for. It took only days for them to come up with the choreography that they would use for the audition as well as parts of the musical. They spoke and thought like one being, firing ideas off one another and running with them at full speed. He had no idea that he could find someone so compatible with the way he thought and the things he thought about. Their ideals and beliefs matched and complemented each other that Oliver could hardly believe it wasn't all just a dream. Alec was perfect, so perfect that Oliver didn't care about anything but speaking to him. Because every time they spoke, it was like a symphony. Their sounds came together in perfect harmony. They had the same goals and the same dreams and now, they were both working towards them. They had different rooms in the train, but that night they were in Oliver's cart. The room blasted with music, empty alcohol bottles were scattered in different places of the room. They'd spent the entire time talking about the play, about what they expected and dreamed of, about their past, about their families, about everything under the sun. They both lay on the bed sideways, laughing at something they couldn't remember now. Oliver was the first one to stop laughing. He looked at Alec, a bottle of beer in hand. Alec had thrown his head back in laughter, his eyes shining beneath the dim lamp that illuminated above the bed. "We're really doing this, aren't we?" Oliver asked, once again amazed at everything that had happened the past week. It all seemed so surreal. WC: 359 TAG: Alec Penber Title from:

When Alec auditioned for the Dark Days musical to be a choreographer, he tried harder for that than anything else he’d ever tried for in his life. He put every single piece of himself into his performance, cutting himself open and splaying himself out raw before the director. All the stars aligned for Alec, because it worked. In the dressing room following his performance, he sat at his table for a moment in thought. The assistant burst into Alec’s room to tell him that he’d been offered the job, even though he wasn’t supposed to hear the decision for a week. After he had his privacy again, Alec cried. The whole situation was so overwhelming. It was the life he yearned for, once so unrealistic and far, materialized as reality. It all felt like a dream except he wasn’t sleeping. The same thought continued into the job. Alec’s soul felt like the mate to Oliver’s. Compatiblity was redefined in them. Each time they spoke, some new understanding was reached. Alec accepted that in District 9, his mother was the only person who would ever come close to understanding him. Here, though, that was blown away. Oliver felt like the other side of Alec’s coin. They spent as much time together as possible, which amounted to all the time, really. As coworkers and roommates, essentially, they could spend every waking second together, and they did just that. In the particular moment, Alec was laying across Oliver’s bed beside him. He was outrageously drunk on the tequila he’d found in some box on the train, laughing at nothing and everything at the same time. It felt like euphoria, a dreamland of sorts. Alec just felt so good. The alcohol made him warm, made him happy - so happy that he wouldn’t change a single thing about the moment. As Oliver stopped laughing, Alec calmed slightly, too, though still giddy on life. It took him some time to understand Oliver’s question. ”What’s this?” Alec asked, still laughing. ”It could - it could be anything,” he said, his words slurring together. ”I want to do everything on Earth right now,” Alec said, raising his hand above his head to disturb the light falling on his face. Oliver laughed at how drunk Alec was. His words slurred together and his eyes seemed like he was in a dream like state. His movements were fluid like water, but clumsy. Shadows played on his face when he moved his hand up above his head. The shadows his fingers cast made him even more unreal, like this man laying in front of him couldn't possibly exist. Like this could be a dream and he could wake up at any moment. "This, our dream," he smiled and took another drink. He was a little more than buzzed, but not as drunk as Alec. He laughed, "you're such a lightweight. Look at you, drunk already." Oliver was used to drinking. The Capitol was known for its parties, even before the war. During the war, drinking was a way to keep reality away. Even when he lived with Kira, he drank. And after her, he drank more liquor than there was water in the ocean. He'd gotten used to it and while he still got drunk, it took a few bottles of hard liquor to make it happen. "Like what? What do you want to do right now?" Oliver asked, his hand reaching up towards Alec's and then suddenly, smoothly, Oliver's fingers slipped in between Alec's. It was so easy. Just like their personality, their fingers fit together like puzzle pieces. WC: 228 TAG: Alec Penber

Alec laughed at Oliver’s observation. ”I know, I know,” he said, dropping one hand to his chest. There was very little alcohol in District 9. What alcohol there was cost more than anyone could realistically afford and was weak. This was entirely different. Having access to free alcohol, and real alcohol at that, was a straight path to getting Alec roaringly drunk. He couldn't even feel embarrassed about it, mainly because he wasn't a terrible drunk. ”If I’m a lightweight because I’m like this, does that make you an alcoholic for being so… cool?” he asked, still laughing. The words might have sounded offensive if spoken in a different way, but the innocent laughter in his voice removed any suspicion of harshly meant words. Alec couldn’t stop thinking about how fantastic he felt. It was cloud 9. Heaven. Perfect. ’Right now?” he replied dreamily. ”Everything,” he repeated in complete seriousness. He felt like he could take on the whole world right now, or go anywhere and do anything. He smiled as Oliver’s fingers merged with his, surely changing the shadows being cast down on his body. ”See?” Alec said, smiling, ”that’s a start.”Words: 214 Tags: Oliver A. Bennett

Oliver gave him a small smile, he'd been an alcoholic once after Kira left him. He'd been so heartbroken that his mind came up with so many illusions and false memories. At one point he had drunk so much and done so much drugs that he wasn't sure she even existed. Kira had erased herself from his life so perfectly that it was possible she could have just been a figment of his very active imagination. "I am definitely cool, but not an alcoholic. I was, once. And yes, it was over a woman. I'll tell you about her later, not now. Right now, I just want to enjoy this," he said, closing his fingers in around Alec's hand. The music stopped suddenly as the song ended and for about two seconds, their cart was quiet but for the sound of the train running along the tracks at some incredible speed. Suddenly he had this urgent need to open the windows and stick his head out of it just to feel the wind rushing past his face, just to feel what it would be like to fly. He wanted his body pumping with adrenaline and be so high on life that he felt like bursting. The silent seconds were filled once more with another beat, something with so much vibration it filled his chest and lungs. "A start to what, exactly?" one corner of his lips twitched into a smile before he bit his bottom lip. He pulled Alec's hand close to him, his body inched forward slightly. The music rang in his ears and he couldn't hear anything but the music, and he couldn't see anything but Alec in front of him. WC: 284 TAG: Alec Penber

Alec was beyond his rational thoughts, moved totally into a part of his mind that had no stake in serious conversations or meaningful things. He doubted that he’d remember anything about the night at all the next morning. "You ask lots of questions," Alec said with a laugh to Oliver. "Feels like school again. How about this: anything." Alec was quiet again for a moment, his mind trailing back to what Oliver said earlier. ”A woman?” Alec repeated, frowning slightly, ”I absolutely misread you then, let me tell you.” Alec laughed again, slightly sad now. He couldn’t deny that he was strongly attracted to the other man. In the past, Alec felt drawn to both men and women. He’d only been with women, but there had been very late nights in which he dabbled with other men. When he first met Oliver, his mind started to slide there. ”It’s so hard to be disappointed when I’m having so much fun on this trip,” Alec said, not at all thinking about the words coming from his mouth and what they revealed. He never intended to be clear about his desires - at least, definitely not this soon - but there they were, right in front of Oliver without Alec even noticing. The music changed and Alec could feel the beat inside his body. Even though his night was slightly tinged with sadness, he couldn't deny that he was still having a good time. He could hear the rushing of air around the train, carrying them off to the destination that he couldn't even remember. Words: 278 Tags: Oliver A. Bennett

Oliver's eyes squinted at the frown on Alec's face. For a moment, confusion set in, then he tilted his head and somehow, he understood. Alec was just as attracted to him, as he was to Alec. He pursed his lips, "You've been reading me have you?" There was a twinkle of mischief in his eyes. The man across from him was radiating with heat. He could feel it from the three inches that separated them. He could feel it in his hands that held his, a burning heat against the palm of his hand. Pushing himself up slightly and much closer to Alec than the three inches that separated them, he only half hovered over him. Oliver stayed in that position for a few moments, his elbow and arm holding all his weight. Gravity slowly lead his face toward's Alec's, almost close enough to touch him if he'd only move slightly forward. "What are you reading about me now? Is it disappointment?" he smiled a little wider until his incisors appeared. Pulling the hand he had intertwined with Alec's, he separated their fingers slowly, one by one. Then he pressed his lips tenderly on one of Alec's fingertips. WC: 200 TAG: Alec Penber

Alec looked over at Oliver, trying to let a smile come through. ”Depends,” he mumbled, ”is trying to read you like that grounds for getting fired?” He didn’t want to lose his job. It meant absolutely everything to him. Alec meant it jokingly, of course, though a hint of lingering fear remained. Suddenly, it was all wiped out when Oliver moved towards him. It felt like the shock of the night. He’d felt desperately attracted to Oliver and could only assume that any mutual attraction he felt was misinterpreted and was only friendly. This changed all that, though. I’m about to kiss the director Alec thought to himself. Excited just by Oliver’s move, Alec went through the roof at his words and accompanying smile. He was ready to sign everything he had over just to be with Oliver, even if only for another moment. ”My God,” he whispered, ”farthest f*cking thing from it.”He moved the hand not being kissed by Oliver to his neck, his fingers tangling in the shirt’s collar, wanting to tug downwards but not fully coordinated or confident enough to do so. "Fired?" his voice was low, a smile playing on his lips, "How could I ever make my dream, our dream, come true without you?" The past month had passed by like a blur for him with Alec at his side. They had been inseparable from day one. His assistant had told him she'd brought someone all the way from District 10, telling him that the man was worth it. Oliver had issues with it, but his assistant had proved to be trustworthy and smart. From the first time Oliver saw Alec dance, he knew she was right. Alec was more than worth it. Hidden glances, simple smiles warmed Oliver inside. He thought about Alec constantly and he knew that he'd developed feelings for him within a second. It was instantaneous, like a lightning bolt hitting him. Day by day, Oliver received more hints that perhaps Alec liked men, too. But Alec had never said anything. And it had been Oliver's experience that just because a man had sex with another man, it didn't mean they wanted a relationship with him. And Oliver didn't just want a physical relationship with Alec. He wanted love. He wanted trust. He wanted something so beyond he'd ever had with anyone, even Kira. He wanted it all. When Alec's hand moved to his neck, he almost lost it. Oliver bridged the gap between their lips, the hunger desperately trying to take control, but Oliver reigned it in. Electricity vibrating between them. Kissing Alec for the first time, after all this time, was like an explosion of tiny electric bolts inside him. Like fireworks. Like water in the desert, quenching his thirst. Oliver deepened the kiss, giving in to just one small inch of desperation. WC: 289 TAG: Alec Penber

It was useless for Alec to deny to himself that he wanted Oliver badly. He’d become preoccupied with thoughts of the other man, of his director. Oliver was perfect, crafted of everything Alec ever could have wanted. At the beginning of the journey, Alec told himself that pursuing Oliver was wrong. They were coworkers - or, rather, Oliver was his boss - and any relationship would surely be terribly inappropriate. Little by little, Alec stopped caring. He had no one waiting for him back in 9. Ultimately, he resolved that if Oliver seemed interested, he’d act on his desires. Now, he couldn’t stop himself. Alec could smell the sweet musk of Oliver’s now oh so familiar cologne up close. It, like literally everything else about the other man, drove Alec crazy. He couldn’t wait any longer. And, finally, Oliver stopped any waiting there had been. Alec didn’t have to give him any further encouragement, because almost immediately, he felt a pair of lips against his and allowed his body to respond adequately while his mind ran wild. Still laying flat on the bed, Alec used a hand to push himself up to a sitting position while taking care not to break the contact he’d established with Oliver. He wasn’t ready to end the first kiss, even though he felt that it would be followed by a million others - a trip full - of others. Words: 249 Tags: Oliver A. Bennett

Alec wasn't the first and maybe he wouldn't be the last. But there was something different about him, about them. Even with Kira, he'd never felt such a sudden spark with anyone. There was a difference in how he loved Kira, she was after all, the love of his life. He would probably never feel that way about another person. But what he felt with Alec didn't even belong in the same spectrum. There was a different connection. A different spark. And it lit up his soul. Oliver's body moved with Alec's, anticipating his movements and flowing with them like water. He moved backwards, never breaking contact with his lips. "Tell me," he tried to get in the words between kisses, between breaths, "I'm an idiot. Tell me that this can't happen." Oliver wanted there to be a voice of reason, but at the same time he didn't care, he wanted to lose himself. He wanted Alec to lose himself. He wanted, more than anything in the moment, to be with him in every sense of the word. Oliver assumed that he'd been with more men than Alec had, he wasn't sure to what extent Alec had been with other men. He was only able to observe him, he hadn't even had a chance to really ask, though truth be told, he was afraid to. Afraid because he didn't want to be rejected, but now, kissing him, it seemed so silly. The hunger was unreal, Oliver shook from trying to keep himself together and not hurry it along. He wanted to enjoy these moments slowly, no matter how painful it was for him to hold himself back. WC: 278 TAG: Alec Penber

Everything was so perfect that Alec couldn’t believe his luck. Life never went this well, not for anyone. They didn’t find a job, the only real job in a nation, at that, for the passion driving their life. They didn’t find the person who was their person, the one who truly understood them. They especially didn’t find themselves in the bed of that person, their whole soul being set ablaze with the other’s touch. Luck like that wasn’t real. It made Alec scared, scared because he felt like at any second, it was all going to disappear. The thought only made him want to take advantage of the time he had with Oliver. Alec kissed him harder. ”It’s happening, though,” Alec breathed, both affirming himself and Oliver. The moment couldn’t be allowed to die. Oliver was moving slowly, almost like he was trying to relish the time or maybe even make a decision. Alec, even when sober, wouldn’t have that amount of self control. Now, while drunk and more lustful than he’d ever felt in his entire life, decided that there was a need for him to advance the situation. With that, he pushed himself the rest of the way up from his place on the bed and swung one of his legs across Oliver, dropping down to sit in his lap and grinding forward. ”How about if I told you that you’re everything I’ve ever wanted?” Alec whispered, giving in to every urge he’d ever had and giving way to one of the best nights of his life. The night didn't end. It went on and on, over and over again. It was like nothing Oliver had ever experienced before because this time, it wasn't just a melding of bodies. It went beyond carnal desires and touch and taste. It felt like ascension and touching something divine. His mind opened and he knew truth for the first time. Alec. Was it possible? Was this what happiness felt like? The train traveled smoothly across the plains with Oliver wrapped up against Alec between the sheets. The orange sun kissed their exposed skins as they slept. When Oliver finally awoke, it was only a couple of hours past the sunrise. The skin he felt against his was warm, soft and hard at the same time. He smiled and dared a glance at Alec's face, still sleeping. He'd never seen him sleep like this. Oliver had seen him fall asleep drunk on the couch once after a night of partying. But never like this, with their bodies as close as a second skin. Allowing Alec to sleep a little longer, he remained as still as he possibly could, listening to the heartbeat inside Alec's chest. He played with his hair, letting Alec's hair run through his fingers. He felt the moment when Alec awoke. There was a shift in the air, a shift in their bodies. He'd never felt more connected to anyone before, and for just a flash of a second, it frightened him. But the quick moment of fear disappeared before it was committed to his memory and he forgot about it the next second. He smiled and moved closer to Alec's face, planting a gentle kiss on the corner of Alec's lips. There were so many words that he wanted to say but no combination of them could describe how he felt. And at the same time, he didn't want to say the words. He didn't want to validate how good and perfect everything was. Because once you validate something, once you tell the world that everything is perfect, life will knock you down. Because once you're as high up as you can go, the only other way is down. You make me complete. You make me whole. I think... I know... I'm in love with you already. Oliver didn't say any of those words. Instead he kissed Alec again, his tongue brushing against his lips, and he showed him the depth of what could only be known as love. WC: 419 TAG: Alec PenberNOTES: End thread
