(Writing this on phone sorry)
Effie Trinket was back in District 12. It had been seemed just like yesterday when she was in the district announcing the tribute for the games. She looked at the crowd, the same sad bunch she always saw each year. Effie smiled, "Welcome, Welcome to the 73.1 annual hunger games and may the odds be ever in your favor. "
She stated her usual comments that she had each and every year before the movie played. Effie said the words to the movie under her breath. She knew it line by line and absolutely loved it.
"Let's begin, ladies first, " she stated after the film was over. Picking out a name in the bowl she read it out loud.
"Kylie Styles! " once the girl stepped up on the stage, Effie went to the other bowl.
"And for the boys, " she began, "Elias Drazen!"

The reaping came around every year. It was normal, although until last year he hadn't had any of the fear along with it. He'd turned twelve last year. The short young boy had been so scared last year. Walking out of his house and to the square he was a shaky mess. Then and now, it seemed another year of life had not improved anything. He was still scared enough he rubbed his arms quietly and looked around wide eyed. What if it was him? He could climb, he could kind of hunt, he could sneak around... he managed to get in and out of the fence all the time. But that wasn't the Games. The odds that the arena would be anything like the woods outside the fence were so minimal. Even the young boy could tell that. And last year's had been kind of scary... he'd seen enough. The curly haired boy was one of three brothers, luckily his youngest brother wasn't of reaping age. His older brother was fifteen, and he was the one who had his name most. He took the extra supplies and thus the extra entries. Elias didn't, but he knew it was everyone's chance to be called.
Elias walked quietly, wearing a very plain and hardly clean light colored button up shirt. It should have been white anyways. He and his brother checked in right after each other, that part at least wasn't as scary the second time for young Eli. What did bring the fear back was the fact that his older brother had to stand somewhere else. They couldn't be together. Quietly Elias walked into the area and to his age group. He was a quiet person, always had been. He didn't speak to the other children, simply looking down and hoping he would be coming home to his family and so would his brother. He glanced up when Effie came onto stage. That colorful woman with such a smile. He didn't dislike her but he didn't feel like smiling. He didn't feel like being cheerful.
He didn't watch the video, he didn't really want to. He wished this could be one of those times where he could just hide away. Where he could just disappear and be forgotten. But he couldn't. If he tried, they'd just come find him. He'd asked his brother why he didn't just run away, why they had to come, and just found that there was no other option if they wanted even the chance to live. So here he was. He looked up for the names, still nervously rubbing his bare arms and staring toward Effie. He listened and looked toward the girls, watching the sobbing girl go up. He frowned and his own stomach twisted. The boys were coming next...
And his worst fears came to light. The second name was so familiar. Chillingly so. His name, not the kid next to him not the kid behind him. His own. He looked, wide eyed toward her. The boys around him looked over, and young Elias had no choice but to move through the group who quite willingly stepped out of his way. He looked down, and stayed quiet, holding back any tears as he walked up to the stage. He looked up, quiet for a moment, but then moved up the stairs when an impatient peacekeeper nudged him forward. He moved up the stairs quietly and to the other side of Effie. He didn't speak, didn't look at anyone, just looked down and concentrated on not crying. He looked toward Kylie, then back down and closing his eyes tightly wishing to be anywhere but right here.

Effie watched the girl come up first and then the boy. She gave them a smile, showing the entire of District 12. "Alright, you two shake hands," she said. The girl and the boy were young, probably no more than 15 or 16 years old. They didn't look like fighters either. Well, what had Effie expected? She turned around and looked back at Haymitch who stayed hidden. She lead the two tributes into the Building to say their goodbyes to their families. As they were escorted into separate rooms, she walked towards the exit.
5 minutes. She sighed and looked at the clock on the wall. "Well, our tributes sure are very...." she smiled at Haymitch. "Anyways, maybe you can teach them something?" she raised her eyebrows. Effie hoped this wouldn't be another one of those years when Haymitch drank endlessly. It was the first time they were seeing each other again after a year and she could already see the problems they were going to have. Making Haymitch care about his tributes and actually try to help them was going to be a tough battle. It'd be easier to teach dogs how to talk.
