The Gauntlet is a popular station among Careers as they have trained to do this at The Academy's of their districts. The shy and less able Tributes usually do not try this course.
The Gauntlet training station consists of platforms that rise up to different heights. The platforms are flat and slightly slick to test the ability and balance of tributes. There are 10 platforms on each side, 20 all together. Each platform is only 1.5 feet in length and 3 feet in width, so it is important to know how to keep your balance on these small platforms. The higher you get, the thinner the platforms are. At the highest level, the thinnest platform is only 8 inches wide. Some Tributes feet are longer than this, therefore they have more trouble staying on the platforms. At the front wall, there is a timer that counts up how many seconds or minutes has passed since stepping on the first, lowest platform. Like the other pictures above, there are different types of courses in the Gauntlet training station. Tributes must step onto the first platform, once they do so, the timer starts. They must jump from one platform to the next, they may jump from left to right and vice versa. However, the length between the jumps is wide and requires great skill. As tributes jump from one platform to the next, trainers will appear and try to hit the Tributes with padded clubs in order to push them off the platform. Respond with a post between 200-1000 words on how your Tribute practices in this area.

The area seemed empty. Raya saw the extremely intimidating Gauntlet right in front of her eyes. The girl barely knew how to use a weapon, but she was small and quick. She would say she was pretty agile too, as sometimes she went all day without a break back in the brothel. Was it that nobody dared tried the Gauntlet? Raya thought of herself to be the last person to try this insanely hard course, but she had nothing to lose. Good news for her that her pain tolerance was pretty high, but that didn't mean that she wasn't going to slip and fall. The fact was, the girl was unstable in the mind, so she was probably unstable in physical form too. She wasn't betting on herself winning in the least, but she decided that she would give it a go.
She was anxious as she approached the intimidating trial. Some of the trainers looked at her strangely, and she figured that they were probably thinking that she was the last person they would see at this challenging course. Timidly walking towards it, they waved their hand, indicating for Raya to step up on the first platform. She had pretty good leg and core strength, so she hoped that she wouldn't fall off the first time around. As the timer started counting down towards her first jump, she closed her eyes and focused. She was running. Running far away from Thomas and her problems. The closer she got to the end, the happier she would be. That was how she needed to think about this course. It was a matter of skill yes, but like all things, if one was not in a strong mental state, then they would obviously fail. Raya was never in a good mental state, but now was the time to put on her best effort.
Raya heard the buzzer sound and quickly opened her eyes. The time has started. She jumped to the next platform in front of here, where a man tried to use his baton and hit her ankles. She jumped high enough, barely missing the painful weapon. She jumped to the third and fourth with no problem. She was starting to get tired and the withdrawal effects were weighting her down and making her less agile, but she had to keep pushing. Sweat beat down on her forehead and the chills came upon the young girl, but that couldn't stop her. Raya had to prove herself worthy. She couldn't just live in her former mentor's shadow all of her life. He was dead and she had to be strong. Just this once, she couldn't be a dependent little girl anymore. It came down to her and her child's life. She jumped five, six, seven. She was in her own little world right now, trying to escape the headache that was caused by every emotion rushing through her. Anger, hate, love, dependency, nervous, scared, lonely.
Eight, nine, ten. She had made it to the tenth one. A feat for a tribute on the outside. She hoped to the side, but a trainer got her ankle. Raya grabbed the side of the platform and hoisted herself up, trying to make it a bit farther. Eleven, twelve. Jumping to thirteen, she knew she couldn't make it. The baton finally hit her leg, and she fell forward, tumbling onto the mat below. She laid there for a second, trying to catch her breath and closing her eyes. She needed a break. Raya needed sleep. After a minute of resting, she finally got up and nodded. Her agility was far better than she expected, but when she fell, she fell hard. The rest of the day she had to bare through a horrendous headache, and so she couldn't do much else that day. But she was happy with her almost good performance, so maybe the gamemakers noticed her.

Why do you even bother? Looking toward the challenging course, Reko wasn't exactly sure how well he'd do. Of course he'd say he would be great, and he'd practiced before. But his performance had been spotty, being a larger bulkier guy. He had the power to throw himself between levels it would just be a question of if he would be fast enough. But he was curious how far he would get, and he knew he would do better here than any survival based thing. He wouldn't need it, he and his fellow careers would have the cornucopia all to themselves. As far as Reko could see things going anyways. He looked to the trainers with their batons, then stretched his arms a bit with a yawn before stepping onto the first platform to start his timer. He did still smile, making the jump to the first platform and seeming to find his confidence once more. He jumped across to the next, and then the next, leaping over the trainer's swinging batons. He was confident for sure the more leaps he made and the more he manage to avoid them. He kept his momentum going rather than pausing. Thinking about it would be his fall.
The exercise was going successfully. He made a couple of the larger jumps to the other side here and there just to throw off the trainers a bit and get himself more use of the offered space. He was doing well and laughing a bit, even being a bit showy as he jumped over one of the shorter trainers. He lasted several minutes like this, about predictable for a career of his skill level. But it didn't last forever, and he was starting to get tired. Even in as good of shape as he was, launching his large self that far that consistently was tiring. Finally after a good bit over ten minutes he threw himself for one more platform, one of the trainers catching his legs just as he landed, knocking him backward and off of the surface. He tried to catch his balance, his arms flailing none too attractively. Reko fell with a grunt and a fairly loudly exclaimed "Shit!" not liking to have been hit or falling. He groaned and sat up, giving an annoyed look at the trainer although knowing very well that was his job. "Thanks." He muttered and got up.
The career glanced back, then to other tributes, then walked away rubbing his back a bit. He'd fallen hard.
notes// Another lame post. Final training.

The Gauntlet was perhaps the station that Esme had been looking forward to the most. She was fast and had always been so, ever since she was a child. She readied herself for this challenge and when the timer started she began moving as fast and as agile as she could manage. She made the first five platforms without any interference from the trainers as they weren't quick enough to catch her.
The sixth trainer however swiped at her foot and caused her to almost fall and loose her balance. She just about managed to regain it and began moving again swiftly towards the top. She was determined that she was going to do this... no matter what the cost. It wasn't until she decided to go from one side to the other that she began to struggle just a little. Being small in height mean't her legs weren't overly long and she had to push herself twice as hard to propel herself over the other side. After a few turns at that the brunette was finally beginning to get tired but she was almost at the top. Only eight more levels to go. One of the perks of being small was the fact that she had small feet that didn't poke over the edges of the platforms, at least they didn't on the bigger ones. When she finally spotted the top podium she began to loose her focus and she jumped towards the next level, only to be knocked on the shins by a padded club and she tried to grab onto the edge as she fell down. For a few seconds she hung there, trying to pull herself back up but when it was clear that she couldn't do it she just let go and braced herself for the landing. After she landed hard on the floor, jolting her knees she pulled a slight face and sulked out of the training room.
