During the bloodbath, one of the main ways that Tributes will fight is by hand-to-hand combat. One of the best ways to become better at hand-to-hand is through practice. Having strength and agility can help in hand-to-hand combat, but one of the best things to have is technique and skill and knowing what to do at the right moments.
Most fights can begin standing, but almost all end up on the ground. If you aren't using a weapon, your best way to winning against your opponent is fighting with your bare hands.
In this course you will learn some basic defense maneuvers as well as offensive maneuvers. You will have the opportunity to train with trainers. You are NOT allowed to train with your own partners.
When faced with an opponent you have a few options.
1) If they have a weapon, relieve them of it. This is a very risky option. Unless you know for sure you will win, do not go for this option as you will most likely end up getting injured.
2) Close the distance, get in close range and fight them.
3) Gain control of the fight.
Though a good skill to learn, many Tributes will have weapons in the Arena and few will be willing to fight close range. These are two disadvantages to learning hand-to-hand. Keep this in mind.
However, an advantage is that if you do find yourself in a bare-knuckle brawl, so to speak, you will have more of a fighting chance of winning than those who do not.
