Calem spotted a break in the treeline and willed his legs to move even faster. The rush of adrenaline was running out, and the burns that had somehow materialized on his back were beginning to fester. He let out a pained "Gah!" as excruciating pain shot up his back, causing him to stumble. His boot caught on something as he made the final leap out of the trees and he fell onto the hard rock, catching himself with his hands. The world around him seemed to stop as he stared at the axe blade in his right hand--sharp and pointed straight at his head. It would have surely made impact if he hadn't caught himself sooner. If Reko's sword had damaged his arm despite the armor, what would the axe have done to his head? Smashed in his skull, that's what it would have done. It would have been a pretty dumb way to die--tripping and impaling yourself with your own weapon.
Calem snapped out of his little trance and sprung up. He was still too close to the forest. The beautiful, burning forest. His lifeline and the closest thing to a home-away-from-home in the Arena. He took a few faltering steps. The pain on his back was just too great. But still he pushed on. He would've thought his armor could shield from a few burns, but apparently not. Maybe it prevented him from getting worse or more burns, but it didn't protect him from the pain of the current burns. Walking was agonizing and only seemed to make his condition worse.
After what seemed like many excruciating hours but could not be more than a five or ten minutes, Calem slowly lowered himself into a sitting position. He could see the smoke and flames rising above the tree tops and into the sky. The forest would be gone within the next few hours if another storm or the Gamemakers didn't put out the fire. Calem sighed, a mixture of pain and longing for everything to just be over. He set down his bag and axe and began to pull the armor off of his body from his head to torso. He then unzipped his suit down to that length as well and tried to turn around to inspect the burns. From what he could see, the skin was bright red and, well, did not look like what healthy skin was supposed to look like.
He looked up as he heard another round of buzzes. A parachute with a small container landed neatly by his side. He picked up the container and unscrewed the lid. The cream inside was a light green and gave off a sort of minty scent. He dabbed a little of the cream onto his finger and felt instant cooling, soothing relief. He took a little more of the cream and tentatively rubbed it into a section of a burn, feeling the same relief as before. Taking more and more of the cream, Calem rubbed it into the burns until they were thoroughly coated and the cream was gone. He then zipped up his jacket and put the armor back on, already feeling as if the burns were beginning to heal. If only they could have sent something to restore his energy as well.
Summary: Woowww, sorry, the ending was super rushed because I only have five more minutes to post. Calem escapes the fire into the magma zone, takes sponsor burn cream from Into the Woods post, applies it, feels better.
