It was his first official interview ever, so when Jasper was getting all styled up, he made it look sparkly, but not too sparkly. In a dark orange 'bedazzled' suit and orange shoes, he looked like a shiny walking carrot. He didn't mind it all that much, considering the publicity was worth the sparkles. Matthias Jensen of District Ten was the victor, and he was young. Jasper remembered when he interviewed the boy when his father took his absence, and now talking to him again made him very happy. Few people could manage to have a conversation with victors twice. After the crowning, there was a short pause for Jasper to come out onto the stage and rile up the crowd for the new victor. "Now now, I know you all have plenty of questions to ask the wonderful Matthias, and maybe some will be answered here!" he spoke loudly and flamboyantly, making the crowd scream in applause. "Now, in just a few moments, he'll be out here once again! But we need to make him come on out!" he spoke encouraging words to the crowd, beginning to chant the boy's name. "Now, you wonderful Capitolites, the moment you've all been waiting for.. Matthias Jensen!" Jasper screamed out, letting the crowd roar as the boy came out onto the stage. Matthias was nervous. The crowning ceremony, even the Games recap hadn't been that bad compared to the interview he would have to give now. He would get asked questions and be expected to answer them. He would actually have to talk about the Games he just finished living, right after living them again during the recap. He wasn't sure he could do it. He wasn't sure he wouldn't be a mess, wouldn't be tempted to just turn his hearing off and make himself look like an idiot. Things made so much more sense when the world was quiet, much as he loved his hearing. He'd only stepped out of the arena what, a day ago? Who knew how long that surgery had been. He was already sure to have nightmares the rest of his life from it, and now he had the added images from the Games recap to haunt him as well. All those deaths he hadn't seen in the arena - which was every single one but Reko's - had been shown to him afterward. None of them were anything close to pretty. The Capitol was kind enough to give him a break between the crowning and recap, and the interview. It would be with Jasper again, at least, and not his father. Jasper had interviewed him before the Games, and watching his father on screen in previous years had always seemed so intimidating. But really, the 13-year-old boy from District 10 just wished he could go home instead. As much as he was grateful to the Capitol for the gift of his hearing and the gifts they had sent him during the Games, he wanted to go home. It wasn't for his family - because he had no idea how they'd receive him now, especially Aramis and his father - but because he longed for the familiar again. He wanted to sit in wide open fields or play with the sheep or pet one of the farm dogs that roamed around their farm back home. He wanted to feel the sun and warm breezes and the grass under his feet. He wanted to sit with his sketchbook in his lap and draw from sun-up to sundown, all alone, and forget. Would he even be able to do that when he finally got there? Matthias' prep team was bubbling over with excitement as they fussed over him before the interview. For some reason, they had seen the need to change his clothes between the previous events and now, so now he was standing in a powder blue suit (tie option). His stylist seemed to have understood his affinity for colors, and bright colors at that. This was a kind of blue that was so rarely found in nature, and he was fine with that right now; nothing actually felt natural anyway. As his team chattered on around him, he actually had his hearing on and tried to respond to them. They had tried so hard, really, and victors from the district they worked with were so rare. He practiced his smiling with them, practiced being the normal person he was before the Games had started where he only wanted to be nice to everyone he met. Whether they bought it or not was hard to tell, but they at least enthusiastically replied to him and told him what a handsome boy he was, and it helped. It helped him get ready to face the crowds. Then he was standing in the wings of the stage, waiting for his time to step out. He moved from foot to foot, jittery and nervous. Jasper's voice rang out, and he stopped. Alright, alright. This is it. Keep it together. Don't freak out. And then the crowd was chanting his name. Matthias couldn't help the smile that came to his lips. Never, ever in his lifetime had people chanted for him. Sure, during the crowning and recap moments before, they had cheered, and there was always lots of cheering before the Games. But this was different. This was his name, his name that they were shouting, calling for. Cheering could be for anyone, but there was no doubt that this was all for Matthias. It didn't matter that, moments after seeing Falro for the first time after the Games, he had broken down and cried about how it shouldn't have been him. Right now, it was him, and at least the people in the Capitol were glad of that. That feeling, of hearing his name like that and the excitement of Jasper's introduction, was the final push Matthias needed to walk out onto the stage when Jasper called him out. He even smiled and waved to the crowd, which seemed to make them more excited. The screams and yells were almost deafening, hurting his ears, but he didn't actually want to turn the sound down this time. The cheering and excitement were probably going to be the only things that got him through this. He walked across the stage toward Jasper, turning his gaze from the crowd at the last moment. He reached out to shake the older boy's hand. "Thanks, Jasper, the boy found himself saying. "I'm glad to be here." And for that moment, right now, it was true.
