Sahalie looked at her district partner as they were ushered off the stage. He had taken her hand and held it until they were inside the building and ushered away from each other. Sahalie looked around the room they had stuck her in. She was frightened, so much so that she had conjured before her own eyes the twin sister that she had only touched a few times before she had died. "Sahalie isn't gonna be fine. I promise its gonna be fine." "But but what about Mum and Dad. They already lost one of us. They can't lose me. But then what choice do I have." She held back the tears that were threatening to fall. She couldn't cry she had to stand tall. However, she was breaking she wasn't even on the train yet and she was breaking. The apparition her mind had conjured gave her a tight hug. "Sahalie I'll be with you ever step of the way. We'll be fine okay." Sahalie just nodded her head and then the apparition was gone and the voice was back inside of her head. She looked around again as she heard the door knob move. She was sure she knew who was behind that door. It wasn't likely there were many others it could be. To her surprise it wasn't her parents though. It was Mister Locke. He ran into the room rather quickly and Sahalie looked at the older man. He didn't say a word at least not a first before her hugged her and placed a little necklace in her hand. "Take this...We'll keep an eye on the windmill for ya." Sahalie hugged the old man back. He gentle pulled the necklace from her hand and placed it around her neck. A bronze windmill to signify her favorite place. He was out of the room before she could say anything else. She looked at the token he gave and then her parents walked into the room.
"Mister Locke was in here what did he say sweetie." Her father was the only one stoic enough to speak. Her mother was hugging her tightly already. She could see the tears in her father's eyes though. She knew her mother was crying without looking at her face. Her father was trying to be brave and trying to pass that on top his only child. His little girl because there was no doubt in anyone's mind that Sahalie was her father's daughter. Her mother finally pulled away. "What a lovely necklace." Sahalie looked up at her. "Mister Locke gave it to me. He said he'd watch over my mills for me." Both of her parents looked up at each other and then back down at their little girl. She looked at her parents with a new found determination in her eyes. There was someone other than her parents that cherished her and it was the first time anyone of them had noticed it. Mister Locke had lost his family years ago. Everyone in district five worked until you were no longer good with your hands or you could not see what you were doing. You worked until you became a danger to others. Mister Locke was still working the early morning crew at fifty-eight years of age. Sahalie has seen him every day for the thirteen years. Well almost every day seeing as when she was a small child she saw him a few times because her parents would invite him over from time to time.
It had just recently dawned on them how much time spent with their family meant. She had to try. She had to try for them all. "I'm gonna do my best. Make sure you have Mister Locke over for dinner sometimes kay?" She smiled at her parents as the doors opened again. She watched as the peacekeepers grabbed hold and ushered them out the door. "I love you" She shouted after them as they shouted it back. Then she was left in silence once again. Then again it was never exactly silent when it came to Sahalie. Her confused and overwhelmed mind again conjured up an apparition of her sister. "They'll be okay Sah. You know they will. They want you to do your best and that'll be enough for them." "I know but will it truly be. Only you and my district partner know how truly scared I am." "I'll be right there with you. You have nothing to fear. We'll get through this like everything else." Sahalie nodded her head as the apparition vanished suddenly as the doors opened again. She was soon being taken to a car and was heading towards the train station. Soon enough they were on the train. She looked at her district partner her eyes wide. She was getting a bit dizzy. This wasn't going to be good. She took a deep breath and tried to collect her thoughts. The voice in her head tried to calm her as well.
She sat down on a chair and then just looked out the window at her district fading away into the distance. What exactly where they supposed to do now?
