Area 2 || Petting Zoo

Lucas stood in the middle of the Petting Zoo. Several animals that he didn't recognize were wandering around them. Some of them look their way and others cowered as the two boys had fought. He was bleeding out quickly and his vision had blurred beyond recognition of anything but blurry movements. He managed to avoid the last hit by the girl, but the boys hit had been critical. He knew he wouldn't make it. If only his arm would stop bleeding, maybe he could stand a chance. But the red liquid poured out of him and only the thirsty ground. He took a step backward, trying to steady himself as the world began to spin. He was beginning to lose consciousness. 

His mind raced from one corner of his mind to another. Searching, seeking for an answer that he thought he could never find. He had always been a boy that was constantly surrounded by people, but always felt so alone. He had his family, and a girl he cared about. But he knew, somehow, that he didn't belong in this world. He had stumbled, he had tried to do what he thought was right. Maybe he made some mistakes. But he always tried to do what he thought he should, not just in life, but in the Arena. He began to slip. And a part of him welcomed it.

'Keep fighting,' a voice inside his head told him. Maybe it was @syd. His hand tried to hold the metal handle of the ax as he managed to raise it slightly. But his arm was barely hanging on to the rest of his body that was draining so quickly out of blood that his skin was beginning to turn very pale. The ax slipped out of his hand and landed on the dirt ground covered by individual straws of hay. He tried to clear his throat to say something, as his eyes wandered towards the open doorway. His left foot took a step forward. He willed his other leg to follow. Lucas ignored the two other people in the area with him. One slow dizzying step after another and he had walked out of the doorway, the sky above him were covered with a blue sky and white fluffy clouds. The sun shone in the distance behind a wispy cloud. 

With his last step, he stumbled and fell with his back on the ground. Lucas looked up at the sky. Images of his life began to float across his eyes. His sister's laughter rang in his ears as he saw his two brothers running barefoot through the forest. His father handed him his first ax when he was 4 years old. His father's large hand scruffing the already messy hair on the top of the little boy's head. Lucas's mother smiled up at him as she closed her eyes for the last time. Somehow, Lucas found the strength to smile. He would see his mother again.

"When we fall in love, it's forever"

And then one last thought. The brown haired girl who had shown him kindness and love in a city of corruption and a world of despair. His mind searched for the memory, the one memory that could never leave his mind. He could remember her scent as if she were right beside him at that moment. 

Blood drained from Lucas's body, creating a dark red pool around him. He looked up at the sun that hid behind the soft feathery cloud. Streaks of light seeped through the cloud. Slowly, his eyes closed and every sound around him floated off into the distance. He could no longer feel his body, though he could still hear his mind and his heart pumping, slower and slower. 

He took one last breath, his last. The memories faded into the distance and the beating of his heart stopped.

Thank you everyone. Lucas was a flawed and incomplete character when I made him. Although he was always meant to die in the games, at times I felt it difficult to let him go. But the closer it got to his end, the better I felt about it. Although his personality will never be finished, I found the missing piece and the purpose for why he was created. 

Lucas was a boy who lived for other people. He grew up too fast and never had a real childhood. His entire life had always been to take care of other people and to make sure that he always did as much as he could. He never knew where he really belonged, and now I know why. His purpose was to serve as a message for other people and to be the person that people were missing.

The message to his family is that things aren't always as bad as they appear. The worst things can come, the darkness can take you. But as long as you hold each other in your hearts, you'll never truly be alone. 

To others, choosing to fight or not to fight doesn't make you a killer or a coward. You don't have to have all the answers. It's okay to mistakes. You might die, or you might live. But in the end, a part of you dies anyways. It's better to live and die with a small string of innocence.

To @syd- Lucas was a possibility of what her life could have been. With him, she could have lived a life that was full of love, with someone who truly loved her with all her broken pieces. He was a person whom she could have depended on with her life. But this is not how it was supposed to be. Johanna Mason serves as an important part of the world, she serves a far greater purpose than anything her and Lucas would have had. It is with his death, that a revolution is possible.

Every single piece is important. No matter how small. Because something greater lies ahead.
