Serena didn't know what to do. It was her third night in the dolls mansion where she had every thing she wanted really. She knew they were all going to go away soon though. The perfect dolls and fairies and elves with weird hair and clothes liked it when one of the dolls who did this before made another doll bleed. Serena hated it when the dolls were bleeding. She remembered her friend would calm her down as if she was a little girl back home, when the mean doll house owner yelled at them to watch the dolls kill each other on the moving book.
She knew a few days after the fairy would call them at the choosing area, they would be put on the screen. Serena knew that the doll chose her. She hated to think about it. She walked out of her room that she was in. She went to the elevator and pushed the up button. Maybe some night air would make everything all right. Maybe a good fairy would come down and grant her wish to be away from this awful place. When she got to the top she went near the edge, where there was a sort of a balcony.
A nursery song ran through her head as she looked up at the night sky.
Tick Tock, Goes the clock, and what then shall we play? Tick Tock, Goes the clock, now summer's gone away?
Tick Tock, Goes the clock, and what then shall we see? Tick Tock, Until the day that thou shalt marry me.
Tick Tock, Goes the clock, and all the years they fly. Tick Tock, And all too soon, you and I must die.
Her clock was ticking. She knew before was all play. Even the horrible doll house, but now her time was up. She knew it was. Her clock was about to stop.

Ambrosia had her mind racing about this whole thing. Being weak tended to be a lot harder for the red-head than she first thought, but she had tried her best to manage it. Always being protective for the first seventeen years of her life had been so easy, and this week she had to let her guard down and pretend to be someone she was not. It was antagonizing for her, but she dealt with it because she was desperate to win these Games. Ambrosia had walked with her head down, body shaking, and her lip trembling. She made herself look weak so she wouldn't become a threat. The reason she kept her head down was not because she wanted to look weak, but more so she could hide her eyes. Her eyes were determined to make it out of here alive, and it had a strong spirit in them. As good of a liar and actress as she was, she could never hide the passion in her eyes. The older tribute was walking in the halls to escape her nagging escort when she caught a glimpse of a girl. She didn't really know what district she was, but she seemed harmless enough. Then again, Ambrosia knew not to underestimate her opponents--she might be playing fake just like herself. Going up to the girl and being her "shy self", she nodded her head. "Howdy," was all the girl managed to say. She knew to draw out her accent so people would think she was dumber than she actually was. Normally, she had a slight southern accent, but not as bad as she had been acting it.

Serena was looking at the sky. Maybe she would see a shooting star, and when she did maybe a nice fairy would come and say to her, "Come away with me. I will take you to the candy land where everything is perfect. Where you won't need to make anyone spurt ketchup ever again." Serena turned to face who was behind her when she heard a long, drawn out, Howdy. Serena had only ever heard someone say that in books she read. It was a weird way the person talked too. Why would anyone talk like that anyways? Serena had never heard someone talk like it, being from district eight and all. "How come you talk weird?" She asked childishly to the girl. Serena tried to remember the girls name. Serena hated when she forgot someone's name. She racked her head trying to remember. What was it again... golden Apple? No. Nectar? No. Pollen? No. Honey? No. Oh! Then Serena remembered. It was Ambrosia. Then she remembered one of the myths she read in which the ancient greek gods, whatever the Greeks were (she doesn't know about Greece being in Panam.), that the Greek gods drank Ambrosia. Maybe she was a goddess in disguise? She certainly seemed pretty enough. _____ OOC: Sorry so short.

Ambrosia raised an eyebrow at the girl. Did she not know about the accents of different districts? 9, 10, and 11 seemed to have the strongest accents, and people with accents were usually in the Games. Victors had accents too, but maybe this girl wasn't the smartest cow in the barn. She shrugged at the lonely girl. "I dun know. Everyone in mah district talks like dis. But most of us are stupid, so it don't really matter to any of us. Why are ya alone?" she asked back to the girl. Of course, she was intending to make herself look stupid, as the intelligent girl couldn't act intelligent or people would see her as a threat. In the games though, Ambrosia would have to eventually change to her true self. She didn't want to die with people thinking she was dumb. The red-haired girl was anything but that. She had felt vulnerable in these games. People just seemed to ignore her, and she might be on her own in these games. It was fine, yes, but she would rather have someone who could help her get through the games and then ditch them later if needed. Ambrosia was set on winning, and she though she knew other people wanted to win, she felt like she wanted it more than anyone else. She wanted to go home to her brother and take care of him--take him from the orphanage. He was all alone and without her. He might have been crying right now. She cared so much for him and he just slipped through her grasp just like everything good did. The seventeen year old never had good luck, and most of the time, it was bad. Her life had been hard on her, and when everything seemed to be working out good, it never lasted. She wished that she could have good luck just once...just for the sake of her brother and the sake of going home.

Serena's head drooped slightly at the question Ambrosia had asked, " Everyone I talked to said I was stupid, except you of course because the conversation just started." Serena sighed, " But I'm sure by the end of the conversation you'll being saying the same thing too. Also, I highly doubt the number of people in one district alone are all stupid." She remembered the weird boy from four who had laughed at her once she started telling him about how the people here were actually evil fairies. Then there was that boy from six (A NPC so I can say he interacted with her) who looked at her weirdly and said she was being stupid about thinking that all the people who came to the capitol with her were dolls and she used to live in a doll house in district eight. She turned around and looked back up at the night sky. Then she saw what she was waiting for, a shooting star. "And I'm also up here for that." She said pointing at the shooting star, "Make a wish."

Ambrosia shrugged. Of course, she probably wasn't smarter than her, but the red-haired girl was give this girl a chance. She wasn't one to judge quickly. "I dunno. I dun think yer stupid, but I've heard on dem televisions that day make jokes 'bout my district and how we is stupid. Maybe dare wrong, but dares a lot of people in tin that seem just plain dumb," Ambrosia commented back to the girl. She despised talking like this. She needed to defend her district, but she just had to use simple terms and act as dumb as possible. Ambrosia hated being someone who she was not and lying, but she had to act the part even if it killed her.
The girl then looked up and saw a star. She used to watch the empty sky back in District 10, where the stars seemed scattered and lit up the sky. She loved sitting there with her brother and listening to crickets chirp and the wind blowing through the fields--it was almost complete silence but just enough noise to sound like a small song. Night time was always her favorite time of day, especially after a long day of working. But now, night seemed so foreign to her. It was so loud in the Capitol and she could barely hear herself think most of the time. She saw the star shoot across the sky and shrugged. She knew what a shooting star was and when people made wishes on it, but she deemed that as useless. Wishes were nothing but hope, and to Ambrosia, hope would have killed her ages ago. The red-haired girl couldn't rely on hope nor fantasy because neither of those things would keep you alive. "Why wish on a star? Seems pointless to meh, 'cause hopin' for somethin' might kill ya someday."

Serena's brow furrowed in confusion. "How does wishing kill you? Wishing is a good thing because if you just wish hard enough it may come true." She turned and look back up into the sky to watch the shooting star fade away. "In a book I read," She said, "They said shooting stars were actually just meteors coming into the atmosphere of the world and burning up." She looked back at Ambrosia, "That may or may not be true but I like to believe it isn't, and that the shooting stars are actually stars falling from the sky and when they hit the ground a fairy emerges, her head filled with all the wishes from everyone who wished in that star."
Serena turned back to the stars, "How you came to think that wishing kills you I don't know. I don't think it can unless you wish yourself to die." Serena thought for a moment about what to say next, "And I still don't understand how a whole district could be stupid. I doubt it's possible actually."

Ambrosia knew what the girl was talking about, but she didn't really care. To her, hope was just a distraction from reality. It gave you a false hope of something, and most of the time, it was let down. It made someone be in the clouds and unable to look down. Wishing, to Ambrosia, was just another waste of time. She had never wished before, and she didn't believe in it either. Though she was hopeful at times, it never worked. She always faced a death of a loved one, and wishing would get you no where. Somebody might have wished that they wouldn't be here right now, but that didn't stop the reaping from happening. The red-haired girl's head was anywhere but in the clouds. She didn't have time for childish games. Childish games and wishes didn't save her family or stop her from getting reaped.
"Some people ah so hopeful dat dey can't git in touch with what's happenin' around dem. Dey may wish for dese games to be over, but it ain't happenin'. Dey may wish that dare family shouldn't be starvin', but it still goes on an' on. Wishin' is just a waste of time. It keeps ya from keepin' a grip on life," Ambrosia said. Was that too smart for her to say? She hoped not. She didn't wan't to give herself away, but it was so hard. Also, she was still mad that her southern accent was so heavy. She just wanted to talk normal.
"We ain't like you folk. We play in mud an' raise cows an' pigs. We go to school, but we ain't dun anythin' 'cept learn how da Capitol is great and how we should milk a cow. Dem teachers are dumb too," she said. It was true, but for Ambrosia, she learned new stuff on her own. People were just dumb in general in her district, and that is what made her stand out. "Mah district partner can't even read."

Serena smiled. Not because of the kid who can't read because that's a crime in her eyes, but because she had seen through Ambrosia's act. She smiled and laughed. "See? A whole district can't be stupid if one of them aren't like you. No one stupid could have said anything that philosophical." She looked at Ambrosia with a twinkle in her eyes, "And to respond to you being hopeful can actually help. If you are hopeful enough you can do amazing things! Also, you can drop the act you were trying to play with being stupid but if you'd like I could tell everyone else you are."
Serena sat on the edge holding in laughter. She may look stupid but she isn't. "And learning how to milk cows doesn't seem to bad. I have seen pictures of them and they look adorable." She smiled at the picture of the cow in her memory. It was black and white with big pink things coming out from its stomach which someone was milking. The stars twinkling behind her looked kind of like her twinkling eyes as she sat on the edge.
