Jessi opened the door to the nursery, expecting Tia to be asleep with no sound coming from the room. To her surprise, her daughter was awake, staring up at the ceiling as if it was the most fascinating thing in the world. Tia started making noises when she realized that she wasn't alone in the room. Jessi laughed and picked her up, planting a kiss on her daughter's cheek. "Hey you", she smiled, nuzzling her neck. She turned around and faced Hector with a smile that was as big as could be. "Hector, this is Tia. The love of my life." The amount of happiness and warmth that filled her in that moment was as intense as it could be, having both Hector and Tia with her. It was so immense that her eyes watered and if it hadn't been for Tia's small hands beginning to pull at her hair then Jessi would've probably started to cry of happiness. Instead she ended up laughing and sat down on the couch, untangling the small but incredibly strong hold that Tia had on her hair.
Looking up from her daughter, she met Hector's gaze. A part of Jessi was hesitant to the entire situation but somehow her hesitation was overruled by the amount of love she held for him. Knowing that it was mutual, she wasn't afraid of him leaving her because she'd had a child with someone else. "Do you want to hold her?" she asked, somewhat nervous to hear his answer even though she knew that she didn't have to be. It was strange and a bit unbelievable to have him back in her life but she knew, mostly hoped, that it would turn out just fine. That now that he was back, it would be the two of them again.

your eyes, they shine so bright i want to save their light As Hadrian followed Jessi through her house, her smaller hands pulling him forward, it felt like the biggest wave of nostalgia. When he had left District 2, Jessi’s house was one of the last places he had expected to see again, but there it was, just exactly as he’d remembered it. Well, mostly as he’d remembered it, because he was sure that there were changes with the new addition. He held his breath a bit as he stepped into the room, letting go of her hand to allow her to move forward towards the crib in the room. It felt like all of the air had been sucked away from him as he watched her lift the tiny bundle up from the crib. It had been one shock to hear about the baby, but it was like she hadn’t truly existed until now. The baby was a real, living, breathing being, and she was Jessi’s child. Though he wasn’t certainly feeling anything negative at all, he tried to put on his bravest face when Jessi turned around. And, suddenly, he didn’t have to.
The look on her face was enough to erase every single doubt and question he had left on his mind. She was beaming, no, glowing. The smile spread up to her eyes, throughout her entire body. The moment didn’t break at all when Jessi laughed. It only made it brighter, happier.
Finally, she asked a question that he probably should have seen coming. Even though he was so happy for her, it still made him a bit nervous. He smiled, nodding a bit before sitting on the couch beside her. He took a deep breath, glancing to Jessi for reassurance as she placed the baby in his arms.
At his first observation, he couldn’t believe just how tiny she was. Small, warm, and smelling of powder. She was so different from the things he’d been holding just last week: hard metal, bullets, armor. He felt himself soften. ”Hi, Tia,” he whispered to the tiny baby in his arms, ”I’m Hadrian, but your mom likes to call me Hector better. Either way, whatever you’d call me, I’m hoping that we’ll be really good friends someday.” Words:400 Tags:@jessi

Jessi never expected anything like to happen to her. Having a child, falling in love with someone other than Hector, experiencing loss... Looking back at it all she couldn't help but wonder what else life had in store for her. It scared her more than it excited her but in this moment, all she could think about was how heartwarming the sight of Hector holding Tia was. She smiled when he began to talk to the little one, her smile growing even bigger when Tia squealed in excitement.
"She likes you", Jessi smiled and rested her head on his shoulder, not taking her eyes off her baby girl. To this day, she still couldn't understand how something so small brought her so much joy and now she had Hector too. Everything was so different to what she thought her life would have looked like just a year ago. She was struggling to see if it turned out better or worse but for the moment, it definitely was better. No matter how much she loved the closest people in her life, nothing, truly nothing compared to the love she had for Tia.

At times, it was next to undeniable that life was hell. There were hard days in the poor Districts when it never seemed to stop raining, when there was no food, or, worse, when there was a rebellion to put down. Hadrian had seen so much blood and death and horror on the worst days. It wasn’t something he ever anticipated for himself, but when was loss and pain planned?
His heart burst when Jessi laid her head on his shoulder. The moment was an unbelievably perfect one that made every single round he shot, every single muscle that had ached, and all the bullets his body had taken worth it because it poured out more hope, warmth, and love than he ever expected. His life hadn't been perfect, but it didn't have to be, he realized. Things had been hard, but that didn't mean that they couldn't get better for him in the future, and it certainly was looking brighter and brighter, especially when Jessi became involved.
“I think I like her, too,” he told Jessi.
