A little party never killed nobody, so we gon' dance until we drop. A little party never killed nobody, right here, right now's all we got.
Aurora glanced around at the event she had worked tirelessly on for the past month. The venue was crowded with people, all dressed in cocktail attire and looking as pristine as possible. She could hear talk from people about various details of the party. "The decorations are fabulous!" "These hor d'oeuvres are phenomenal!" Then, of course, there were her favorite comments that she had heard plenty throughout the evening: "Can you believe that they got the Aurora Swiftgold to plan this?!" and "Aurora's at it again with another fantastic party!". While the brunette loved hearing these comments, because who doesn't love people giving them praise, she was more concerned about the people who had hired her for the party in the first place. She wanted to know how they felt about the party; if she had reached their expectations or if she had exceeded them, and if this party was everything they had ever dreamt of it being.
She made her way through the crowd of people to the hosts of the party, grinning as they embraced her. "Aurora, thank you! This party is everything we could have ever hoped it would be." Aurora just smiled and shook their hands. "There's absolutely no need to thank me. I was just doing my job." The hosts simply shook theirs heads before giving her another hug and telling her to go and enjoy the party that she had planned. "You earned it," they said, just as all of her clients said. She nodded and turned from them, letting them get back to guests and mingle with everyone. She looked around, doing her final check through to make sure it was perfect before she officially let herself enjoy the evening. When everything was perfectly in place and lined up in order of what would happen next, she sighed a sigh of contentment before heading over to the bar.
She sat down on the barstool facing the bartender as she said, "I'll have a cosmo." The bartender nodded and gave her a smile that she returned before she turned back to face the party. She strained her ears to see if there were any other comments to be made, but when her drink was slid next to her, she decided to just let go and have fun with the evening. She took a sip of the mildly fruity drink as she continued to people watch, creating scenarios in her mind about what each person was doing with their night. There was a blonde woman who had men surrounding her, so she envisioned her as being the token bachelorette in town that every man was dying to meet. Tonight would be the night that she would meet the man of her dreams and when they would get married, they would hire Aurora because it was at her party they first fell in love. She grinned to herself at the idea before taking another sip of her drink.
After she finished her drink, another one instantly slid towards her. She looked at the bartender with a raised brow. "I didn't order this," she said gently and the bartender smirked. "I know you didn't. The guy at the end of the bar did." Aurora shifted her gaze to a handsome man sitting at the other end of the bar. She gave him a small smile before lifting her drink to him, taking a sip before turning back to the party to continue her people watching.

There was no problem in the world that a little party couldn't cure. Well, that was normally the case anyway, and so it was one of Illias Delos' philosophies. Sister-in-law still not talking to you because you had to have a girl's unborn baby killed in the arena? Go to a party! Twin brother still mopey? Go to a party and drag his sorry butt along! Words from a naive little victor sticking in your brain like caramel in your teeth? Go to a party and shag the prettiest girl you find in the first ten minutes! Kinda wishing the girl you'd slept with wasn't so vapid and could actually hold a conversation longer than five minutes? Go to a party and get hopelessly drunk! All in all, the perennial bachelor had a pretty solid plan. He was good at being the life of the party, could drink most people under the table, and never lacked for a bed companion at the end of the night. It was the life he had chosen for himself, and aside from that niggling feeling of emptiness and boredom that came along for the ride, had accepted it. When you lived in the Capitol and were a Gamemaker with a pretty face, there really was no shortage of parties either. He got invited to more parties than he actually had time to attend, so when he did want to actually go, there was usually an option lined up for him. Tonight's soiree was a classier kind, not the hastily thrown-together shindig he was more in the mood for. But it would do. Illias seemed to encounter most of the familiar faces first - girls he'd already slept with, coworkers, ugly drunks, angry drunks, guys he pretended to like, and guys he actually liked. They filled up the first hour of his party pretty sufficiently, but he was now on his third drink and on the lookout for something more interesting. His eyes landed on a pretty brunette down the length of the bar with her stool turned toward the crowd. She was sipping a drink and people watching, a pastime Illias might have enjoyed if he could sit still long enough to watch people and keep his mouth shut. He could only see her profile from where he was, but what a profile it was. "Heya Frank," Illias called to the bartender. The bartender didn't respond because of course his name wasn't Frank. It was Inigo, and Illias knew that, but a bartender named Frank seemed far more fitting to a party like this. "Frank. Frank. Hey, barkeep."Inigo turned to look at him, raising an eyebrow. "Again, Mr. Delos, my name's not-""Whatever, look," Illias interrupted, pointing toward the brunette. "What do you know about her?"Inigo sighed and leaned against the bar, cleaning out a glass as he looked in the direction Illias had pointed. "Aurora Swiftgold. She planned this whole thing.""Is that right?" Illias asked, raising an eyebrow. "She easy?"Inigo chuckled, shaking his head. "No. I've done her parties before, and she barely gives most guys more than the time of day."Illias grinned. "Challenge accepted. Have another of whatever she's having ready, Frank." Before Inigo could complain about the name again, Illias slid across the money with a tip equal to the price of the drink. Inigo just shrugged and walked away, getting started on the request. Illias turned his attention back to Aurora, content to watch her a few moments longer. She finally turned around and Frank did as he was asked, sliding another drink toward her. They exchanged a few words, though Illias was far too far away to hear what they said. Of course, being more than about 5 feet away meant their conversation would be lost. Aurora looked to him and raised her glass with a little smile. Illias mirrored the gesture with his own glass, though with a return of his signature half smirk. And then she simply turned back to the party before he could even stand up. Woah. Alright, so buying a girl a drink was the oldest trick in the book, but it usually elicited a gracious, flirty smile and a bit of lingering eye contact. His next move was of course to walk up and open with something flirty but casual, and things would go from there. But there was neither lingering eye contact nor hints of flirtation in Aurora's acknowledgment of the drink. Well, Frank had said this girl wasn't easy, and Illias didn't really want easy anyway. He slid off his bar stool and made his way toward the girl anyway, expertly maneuvering his own drink through the crowd of people. "Another raging success for the infamous Miss Swiftgold," Illias said when he had reached her, leaning casually against the bar next to her seat. He did have the feeling of recalling hearing her name as a planner before, but wasn't really sure if she was usually any good. But this party was decent enough, so he went for it. "See anything good out there?" WC: 847 Tag: Aurora SwiftgoldNotes: It was great!

Aurora knew all of the plays in a man's playbook. After spending two years with the epitome of a playboy, she had learned them quickly. Then there was the fact that at every party she planned, someone was there trying to get her attention. They'd often send a drink her way and give up when she didn't respond like all of the floozies did. Or if she wasn't drinking that night, they would try to impress her by talking about how she had planned another fabulous party. She could tell that they didn't have a clue as to whether or not she was actually good, and that infuriated her more than it flattered her. She often found herself complaining to whoever was the bartender that evening about the lack of decent men in the Capitol, and they would simply agree with her. She had a feeling that most of them only said what she wanted to hear in hopes that she would hire them again for another event.
So when Inigo had handed her the drink and she had seen the man at the end of the bar, Aurora knew what to do. She knew that men at these parties were only looking for a one-night fling, someone that they could add to their long list of conquests. That wasn't Aurora, and she would never give a man the time of day when those were his motives. So she did her signature trick, minimal eye contact, a polite smile, and turn. It left the men confused and they generally never approached her again, which was something she greatly appreciated.
She looked back to where the man had sat before, smiling as she noticed that he was gone. She turned back and grabbed the drink he had purchased for her, taking a sip of it with a smug smile. Yet another playboy had been stopped, and she was content to go back to people watching. Her eyes scanned the crowd before landing on the man who had been at the end of the bar, and it appeared as if he was coming towards her. Her eyebrows furrowed together in confusion. Her trick had a one hundred percent success rate in getting men to leave her alone. Why was he approaching her? Why hadn't the trick worked?
She was about to get up and walk away when he arrived at the bar and leaned next to her. She gave a polite smile as he addressed her and her party, forcing her eyes to not roll as he called her 'infamous', as if he honestly knew anything about her or the work that she did. It was another line that every other man in the Capitol had used on her. They didn't know what they were talking about, and he obviously didn't either. But she decided to play along with him, something she normally never did.
"What are you talking about another success? Didn't you know this was my first party?" She gave him a small smile before turning back towards the people. She honestly thought that her comment was enough to shoo him off, but then she heard his voice again. This time, he was asking about the people that she was watching. She turned her head and looked him up and down before turning back to the party. "You don't look like the kind of guy who would be interested in people watching," she said casually before shifting in her seat to look around at the people.
She decided then to put the final nail in the coffin with their interactions. She looked at him with a large smile before saying, "But, if you're actually curious, I can tell you multiple stories I've created for people." She turned back to the crowd and pointed at an older gentleman who was smoking a cigar and talking to some other gentlemen around the same age. "They're making plans to get together to discuss the rebellion and which side they should take because they don't really like the Capitol, other than the parties, but they don't like the Rebels either because they aren't as smart as they are, in their opinions." She then pointed over to two women bickering and said, "They're arguing because the redhead caught her black-haired friend making a move on the man that she was trying to go after. That's totally breaking girl code." She turned to him and gave him a faux solemn look, just to emphasize the importance of girl code. She then turned back to the crowd and pointed at an older couple who were holding hands, and she gave a content smile. "They just celebrated their thirty-seventh anniversary last week and are telling everyone about what they did for it."
She then turned and pointed at the man, whose name she still didn't know. "And right here's a man who is trying so desperately to get a woman to go home with him because he can't stand the thought of attending a party and not getting a nice shag by the end of it. But he doesn't realize that shagging random women is never going to fill the emptiness that's in his heart and soul because, let's face it, meaningless quickies are just that: quick and meaningless." She gave a smirk before taking a sip of the drink that he had bought for her. "How's that?"

Up close, it seemed like the response Aurora had made to his drink wasn't exactly a fluke. She was going to make this whole thing hard on him, and he relished the fight. "Now now, let's not start off with lies," he responded to her first comment. It was a bit of a throwaway comment, but the kind that most girls didn't catch on to well. He, after all, hadn't really started off with a lie. True, he wasn't exactly sure what this girl's reputation was, but Frank had at least told him there were other parties and people were having fun tonight, so he made a few highly-educated guesses. That was usually how he started his opening lines: with good guesses. Sometimes he'd got a few hints from the bartender or a fellow party-goer. Sometimes he'd only need to watch her a handful of seconds before he could figure something out. And if she was really obvious, he could just walk straight up to her and the whole thing would go as seamlessly as if all he had said was "Sex, yeah?" Actually, that line had worked once. At her next comment, Illias shrugged. "That's true, I'm not. That's why I asked." But again, Aurora turned back to the crowd. Hmm. Well, he'd have to fish for something with more substance then, wouldn't he? What was the latest thing girls were into talk about these days? The latest Capitol fashion? It seemed to him that this week, actual or painted whiskers were the thing. There were a couple women just in the immediate vicinity with such a fashion, but he couldn't quite understand how he could make such a conversation interesting. "Hey, whiskers?" was about all he had so far. If she got going on something, he could play off of that and wouldn't be quite as hopelessly lost. He was actually about to open his mouth and try the whiskers thing when she started talking again. Illias raised his eyebrows when she consented to tell him a few stories, but said nothing. Well, this should be interesting. A girl with an imagination. It had been a little bit since he met one of those, though he reminded himself that she had thus far only claimed to have one. He settled back against the bar, just beyond the range of actually touching her, and looked where she pointed as she started to talk. The first pair she pointed to included one of the Gamemakers Illias worked with, though Evant was a little old to be much a face of the Games anymore. The story she'd invented for him and whoever he was talking to made Illias smirk, just trying to imagine Evant planning some devious scheme under the noses of his fellow Gamemakers and then getting flustery and purple in the face if anyone called him out on it. The next pair she pointed to, a pair of women, seemed to quite genuinely match her story. He'd seem many a catfight in his time, and this one might as well be bordering on the same. "Oh, girl code is sacred," Illias agreed with the same faux-solemnity as Aurora had shown toward him. A hint of his smile came back a moment later, because he was actually enjoying this little game. So this was why people enjoyed people-watching. If Illias was curious about what was going on over there with that group of people, his immediate response wasn't to watch but to go over there and just find out. Sometimes it wasn't as exciting as he might have guessed it, but occasionally it was. Just supposing seemed to mean you couldn't get disappointed if that wasn't what was happening, because you didn't really need to find out. Illias turned his attention to the third pair, a cute little old couple holding hands. The story she had for them was almost a little too adorable though. He might have supposed instead that he was putting on a show because he'd slept with his wife's younger, hotter sister last week and she was pretending she didn't know about it but was seriously going to yell at him after the party when all of their friends weren't nearby to witness it. He didn't get the chance though, as she now turned her little game on him. He looked back at her as the story she gave from him was neither adorable or amusing or exciting. It was actually kind of cruel, though the offended look Illias put across his face was a little over-emphasized. His immediate gut response was to turn the game back on her and say that it wasn't much better to be an incredibly naive girl who thought she was better than everyone else because she could keep it in her pants longer than the five second average, and who would rather make up her own stories instead of go out and make stories, and she wasn't really as hot as she thought she was anyway, so forget this. But he didn't say that, because that really wouldn't work, and there wouldn't even be the benefit of being able to laugh the interaction off later with Eryx or Ambrosia. Besides, he'd gotten himself into this challenge, and he wasn't about to back off so quickly. "You had me hooked right up until the desperate bit," Illias said, holding up a finger. "After that, I have to say your observation skills plummeted into the ground and your imagination just went right out the window. Two men making plots for the impeding war? Creative. A guy whose only goal in life is to get in your pants? Predictable. If I was so desperate, I'd go for that one," he said, pointing to a girl who was quite obviously drunk, dancing sloppily and shouting "woo!" once every thirty seconds. She was surrounded by a couple of friends, who alternated between having fun with her and making sure she stayed upright. "Her boyfriend just broke up with her after they'd been together for three years, just because she wouldn't go to that cosmetic surgery appointment he scheduled for her last week. Poor girl's thinking maybe she should have just gotten those whiskers instead of have standards about her body because maybe now no one will love her." There, he'd gotten the whiskers bit in. That was going to be in his head all night otherwise. He looked back at Aurora and waved a hand at her. "So, try again." WC: 1085 Tag: Aurora Swiftgold

The brunette laughed as he suggested they not start off with lies. She turned to face him and cocked her head a bit. "Then let's also not start off under false pretenses." If that didn't get him to shut up, then she didn't know what would. Men were always so easy to give up as soon as the woman didn't show interest back, so the fact that he was even still here was a surprise to her. She wondered what his intentions might be, because she was almost one hundred percent certain that all he wanted was to get laid. There was never any trying anymore, nothing like what her father had described when he courted her mother. He always talked about how she really made him work for her, and that every other guy in town was trying to be with her at the same time. He always ended the story with saying, "But your mother was well worth the fight I put up." And that was what Aurora wanted, someone who would work hard for her and never regret it a single day in the rest of his life.
As she told him all of the stories that she was coming up with, she couldn't wait until he heard the story she came up with about him. Well, not so much a story, but what she was certain he was trying to accomplish. In her past experience with a playboy, he couldn't commit for some reason and decided to try and fill that void with countless women. At the end of the day, Aurora was just one of those many women he was having relations with. The feeling of despair and utter disappointment when she realized that the man she wanted to marry one day would never be marriage material was something that she had vowed to never feel again. Which was exactly why she never payed any attention to the men who approached her at these parties. Whilst her parties were phenomenal and often left people feeling great by the end of the night and introduced other couples, it seemed to be a bad omen for her. She watched the man's face, seeing the offense that he took to her words. She almost felt guilty for everything that she had said. After all, she wasn't really a cruel person in general. People often told her how sweet of a person she was, but obviously this guy wasn't getting the hint that she wasn't going to sleep with him. Sure, he was attractive, but she didn't want what he wanted at the end of the day. She wanted to find someone who was looking for marriage, not someone who was looking for a good time. She wasn't going to give him that satisfaction of being another one of his girls.
Aurora turned on her stool to look at him as he spoke, just sipping on her drink as she listened to him. He sounded defensive, which was her first indication that what she had said to him was correct. After all, why get defensive about something that wasn't true? She didn't even care that he was insulting her observation skills because she was just hoping that he would stop trying, just like all of the other men that had repeatedly hit on her in the past at her parties. But then he pointed to a woman in the crowd, so she shifted her gaze to her and listened to his story. The corners of her mouth turned up a little as he spoke because she knew that he was interested in the game that she had started. Maybe his intentions were different after all. She could go into the night thinking that and maybe have some fun, obviously not fun in the way that she thought he would think. She turned back to him as he waved his hand at her and told her to try again. She took her glass and downed the rest of her drink before setting it down on the bar and looking back to him. "Fine. I see a man who's going to tell me his name in the next five seconds and then proceed to ask me if I would like another drink, to which I will graciously say yes and proceed to thank him." She then extended her hand to him before giving him the first genuine smile that she had even considered giving him for the evening. "Aurora Swiftgold. I know you apparently knew who I was before, but I still feel as if an introduction is necessary. Wouldn't you agree, Mr. ...?" She trailed off so that he could fill in the blank that she was missing, silently hoping that she wasn't making a horrible, horrible mistake by giving him the time of day.

Illias might have laughed at her comeback, but instead only nodded in acknowledgement. Alright, so lines and false flattery were useless with her, at least at this point. Maybe that was all for the better. It meant Illias would need to be creative, and he was willing to exercise a few of those rusty muscles. If you had asked him why he tried and why he jumped at the chance to creatively pick up a girl, he of course wouldn't have told you. But if you somehow had managed to pry it out of him, he might had said that it was because there wasn't much of anything else to do. Most of his life was filled by his work, with most of what was left taken up by his family, and the for the remainder, he might as well have fun. On the romance front, he'd found a rare few girls of substance since his stupid teenage crush on Ambrosia, and those other girls seemed to have better, perfect men lined up around the block for them. He was no good at being the perfect man. He wasn't intense enough, or serious enough. Aside from the very possible fact that he would get bored being with one woman for an extended period of time, he was unlikely to find a woman that would actually put up with him for that same period. He was swoon-worthy in the sense that he was very good at creating temporary and useful swoon in the fairer sex, and that was about it. He had come to terms with this. At least something Illias was doing was having a positive effect, because Aurora actually looked at him now as he spoke. Even though he had looked offended - and felt offended - at what she'd said, she wasn't exactly miles off. Of course he had come over with the intention of eventually getting her into bed, but most girls didn't really want to know that. Most, here, is important, because there are a fair amount of women that are all about that. Anyway, even if he was sexually driven, that wasn't the only reason he had accepted Frank's unspoken challenge. He would enjoy actually having a decent conversation with someone, having a back and forth that went beyond petty flirtation. He could strike up a good chat with some of his friends, but even they revolved back to the same old topics after a while. The people in his group of friends had altered over the years, but the overall feeling of them was about the same. So if she actually had something interesting to say, he was all for hearing it. As she began to consent to no blowing him off right away, Illias smiled. It was a small victory, but still a victory. He glanced down at her proffered hand, then reached out his own to grasp it. "Delos," he finished for her. "Illias Delos." To another girl, he might have added his title and a little haven't-you-seen-me-on-television wink. But omitting that gave her something to ask about him. After all, he couldn't just lay all his cards on the table right away with this one. If Eryx was here, he might have made a joke about being the prettier twin. Or he could even make that joke with Eryx absent, to get her to ask about what that meant and oh my god aren't identical twins just so hot and have you ever accidentally kissed a girl who thought you were your brother? Obviously, that one had been effective too, but again, strategy. So instead, he only added, "Pleasure to meet you, Aurora," and let go of her hand. Then, Illias turned back to the assembled party goers as if winning an actual introduction didn't phase him much. It had, but he had already gotten the impression that pick-up lines, compliments, and overly obvious flirations weren't the way to go here. Cool guy for the win. "Okay, so this one is cheating a little," he admitted, pointing to a couple around their own age. They had their arms around each other, looking into each other's eyes as they slowly danced to a song that was just a little too fast for it. "I already know those two have been off and one for the past, oh, two years or so. Mostly off because she's kind of a controlling b*tch. Anyway, they finally got back together because she decided she wants to save Panem and travel all around the country feeding the homeless, and he's down with that because he'll only have to see her every couple of months and she's pretty great in small doses. Plus, she bought him that new Model 6XS for his birthday, and that thing drives like a dream." He glanced back at Aurora and raised his eyebrows, a question for her approval. Alright, this people watching thing wasn't half bad. WC: 822 Tag: Aurora SwiftgoldNotes: Oh man, no apologizing for 800 words! I just get going sometimes.

Once upon a time, lines and false flattery had worked on Aurora. The man that had used it on her still hadn't slept with her the night that they met, simply because she was a virgin at the time and was still searching for love over lust, but he had hooked her. Since their end three years before, she knew that she couldn't let her guard down again. Not as easily as she had before, that is. She wasn't getting any younger, and she had no prospects. Her friends would often tell her that she should loosen up, maybe stop turning guys down for their one-night flings because it could possibly turned into something else. She always shot them down because that idea was absurd; people who wanted one-night stands weren't the people who wanted relationships with people they hooked up with. It was always no strings attached, and that's not what Aurora wanted. Aurora wanted all of the strings, even if it meant that the strings would get all tangled up. She knew that love wasn't ever perfect, no matter how perfect it may seem.
The brunette looked at him and continued to think about what his intentions must be. If it wasn't sex he was after, then she couldn't help but wonder what was. If he had just wanted a conversation, why would he have tried so hard as to get her to talk to him? If he just wanted sex, why hadn't he gone after the woman that he had pointed out, who would definitely be an easier lay than Aurora would be? Was he going after her for a one-night stand because she was a challenge? No, that was preposterous. She almost laughed aloud at the idea. The only reason guys went after challenging girls was because they wanted more, and she could tell that just wasn't the case. She could tell that he didn't want anything more. At least, she didn't think that he could want anything more. He just gave off the playboy vibe, but maybe that was all an illusion. Maybe, just like she played hard-to-get, he just pretended to be a playboy. It was unlikely, but it was possible.
She grinned back at him, shaking his hand as it met with hers. His hands were a lot softer than she had anticipated. It wasn't completely absurd for a guy in the Capitol to have soft hands; a lot of them didn't really use their hands all of that often. She ignored the thoughts that were running through her mind to focus on him. She felt as if his face was familiar, though she couldn't place where she had seen his face. When he told her his name, it rang a bell but she wasn't able to place where that name was familiar. Had she planned an event for someone with that last name before? Had she seen him around the Capitol and asked for his name before? She wasn't quite sure, but she knew that she wasn't going to ask. There was no need for him to start getting cocky about her potentially knowing him. "It's nice to meet you as well, Illias." She gave him a smile before watching as he turned back to the party.
Her eyes followed to where his finger led, and she watched them. She smiled as she saw them, seeing the love on their faces and admiring the fact that they were dancing the way the wanted to, even if it didn't necessarily match the song. Her smile slowly fell though as she looked back up at him as he gave his interpretation of what their interactions meant. "That's a little morbid, don't you think?" She looked back to them and smiled again before sighing softly. "I think he has a ring in his pocket. They're dancing slowly, and he's whispering in her ear everything that he loves about her and how he can't imagine spending a day without her. But, he's going to chicken out and not actually propose. He's worried that she'll say no because she's always been less vocal about her love than he has. So, for now, he's content with just holding her in his arms and moving at their own pace to the music." She looked back up at Illias and gave him a small smile and shrug. "I like to think that people have happy endings every now and then. I don't think that they happen enough nowadays." She looked back to the crowd before exhaling sharply. "Wow, talk about being morbid," she said with a laugh before turning back to the man who had bought her a drink. "Give me another story. I promise I won't try and change it. Actually, I can't promise that, but I promise that I'll try my absolute hardest to not change it."

Aurora had a pretty smile when she wasn't trying to get rid of him, but he'd made it disappear again almost as fast. Maybe Illias wasn't playing the game exactly right, but since he did sort of know the couple he'd pointed out, he figured it was a safe enough story. She hadn't though. "Morbid?" Illias repeated, then added more to himself, "I think it's just realistic." He shrugged it off, looking back to the couple again as he heard her sigh. The sound brought a bit of a smirk to his face as he listened to her completely change his story. And man, did he mean completely. The tumultuous duo he'd witnessed at many a party became this sweet little glimmer of hope. He didn't think he'd ever looked at them and thought "true love" - if he'd ever thought much of them before - but that's what Aurora saw. And maybe in the right light if you squinted a little, didn't know anything about them, and believed in fairies, you could see it. Illias looked back at Aurora, who gave him a smile and a shrug. "Well, I think you're safe from ever being called a true pessimist," he replied with a slight chuckle. "But you're right. Happy endings don't happen much." Or probably ever. Up until recently, his prime example had been Eryx and Ambrosia, but that one no longer worked. There were Hunger Games loves stories, but those were fleeting. His parents were still together, although he wasn't really sure he'd call that a happy ending. It was just... life, and they hadn't gotten tired enough of each other yet to throw in the towel. Illias laughed when Aurora asked for another story, a genuine laugh that he didn't have to pretend so the girl thought she was actually funny. "Alright, but first," he agreed, holding up a finger. He hadn't gotten the drink she'd asked him for, so he caught Frank's eye. "Another one for the lady, Frank," Illias said. "Add it to my tab." "You got it, John," Frank said back. Illias wrinkled his nose a bit at the name. He looked like a John? He'd meant Frank as a compliment, but said nothing as he accepted the drink and handed it to Aurora. "Now to find my next victims," he said to her, taking a sip from his own drink as he scanned the party. It really was a decent party, now that he was more in the mood to enjoy it. Everything was carefully coordinated, from the cups people were holding to the lighting to the guest list. Well, he couldn't really remember who this party was actually for, but the people seemed to fit it anyway. Illias had been to every kind of party, and he mostly only care that there was alcohol and interesting guests, but this particular one did have a set mood. Maybe he'd point out later that he thought it actually had turned out well, when it wouldn't sound like a useless compliment. Illias finally found his pair though on the fringes of the party. It was two guys, leaning casually against the wall and watching the dancers in the middle. They didn't look at each other as they made the occasional comment, but it was obvious enough to Illias that they'd shown up together. He pointed them out to Aurora. "Alright, those two. Both are trying to keep it extra cool because they weren't actually on the guest list, but short guy just had to come because Rowenna was going to be here, and he's hopelessly in love with the girl. Taller mustache guy came along as a wingman. He's trying to be supportive of short guy, because he's his cousin, but he can't help throwing in the occasional sarcastic comment like 'oh of course Rowenna is going to notice you next, just as soon as she comes up for air from snogging purple hair guy'." He glanced at Aurora, then remembered her happy ending thing. "But Rowenna will give short guy a wink and a smile on the way out, so short guy is happen and so is she. Better?" Aurora looked at him as he called it realistic, and she gave a shrug in response. "I think realism depends on your perspective and your experiences. What might seem realistic to you could seem morbid to me. What might seem realistic to me could seem overly optimistic to you. It all just depends on how you see it." She always wanted to see the positive side of the story, especially since so many people had been focusing on the negatives lately. With everything that was taking place throughout Panem, she wanted to focus on the happier things in life. She wanted to give people a reason to look forward to something, and she wanted them all to have happy endings. Regardless of the fact that not everyone gets happy endings, that's what she wanted and that's what she thought about during her story games.
The brunette just let out a laugh as he told her that she wouldn't ever be called a pessimist before shaking her head. "I think that's one thing we can agree on. I don't think I've ever not seen the positive side of something." She listened to him and nodded before leaning back against the bar a bit. "I think I'm just a little stuck on happy endings because my parents are the definition of romance. My dad fell in love with my mom the day he met her and they've been happily married for twenty-six years now." She smiled upon remembering the anniversary party she had thrown for them and how they had reminisced on their lives together and shared stories with everyone who had come. She wanted that to be her one day, and she had high hopes that it would actually happen for her. She'd just need to work for it.
Though she would never admit it, Aurora found her breath catching as she heard the sound of Illias's laugh. Something about it made her feel warm, welcome even. She looked at him and then raised her brow as he called Inigo 'Frank'. She looked at Inigo and mouthed, "Sorry," before laughing heartily as he called Illias 'John'. The entire night, she had felt as if Illias was trying to impress her, which did nothing for her. But now, it seemed that he was no longer focusing on trying to impress her, but rather just being himself and having fun with the new experience that people watching brought him. It was different for her, and she found herself enjoying his company much more than she had anticipated. She chuckled as he made a comment about finding his next victims before taking a sip of the new drink that he had ordered for her.
Whenever she would throw parties, she never thoroughly enjoyed them. Since she had focused all of her attention on making every little detail perfect, by the time she was told to go and relax, she could only people watch. But then she would notice the slight imperfections of her work, and she would rush back to fix it before anyone noticed. It was something that she wished she could control better, but was happy that her parties all generally went off without a hitch due to her perfectionist nature. This was the first party where she hadn't paid attention to the details after she was told to enjoy herself, and that was primarily thanks to Illias and his company.
Aurora followed his hand as he pointed out the focus of his next story, bringing her drink to her lips as he started on with their story. The idea of them managing to sneak in was absurd, simply because she had hired the best security for the party to make sure no crashers showed up. But she wasn't going to mention that to Illias because he seemed to be enjoying their little game. She laughed softly as he talked about the relationship between the two men, and the unrequited love that the shorter man was experiencing. She covered her mouth as she let out a loud laugh at the 'cousin's' remarks, shaking her head as she bit her lower lip in embarrassment of letting out such a laugh. She was about to correct him about a happy ending before he added in the happy-ish ending. She looked up at him with a large smile and nodded. "Much better. You're getting the hang of it now."

Illias shrugged off Aurora's explanation of perspective. That was something people would try to tell him every now and then, tell him to try and see things from other people's point of view. The victor Nessarose had gone on about it, and Eryx would bring it up too on occasion. It wasn't that Illias was incapable of empathy or seeing things a different way, but... okay, hell, maybe that was it. He had an open mind, but he was pretty good about being right about things. It wouldn't be good to push a point like that with a pretty girl though, so he let it be. Illias raised his eyebrows a bit at the explanation for why Aurora liked happy endings so much. "So you had one of those childhoods, huh? Tough standards." It wasn't meant to be demeaning or derisive, though it might have come off that way. Perfect parents falling madly in love with no problems. Those things actually existed? Eryx and Ambrosia had gotten that perfect little love story, if you forgot Illias' part in it, which you usually did. But theirs hadn't been forever. Oh crap, was he already thinking of them as separated forever? There was no reason to go that far yet. Still, though, the "definition of romance" seemed to be, for Illias, that it was great for right now. Time messed almost everything up, so there wasn't much use in hoping to keep things as great as they were at the start. It was basically the reason behind why he'd never really tried. The story Illias had told made Aurora laugh, a loud laugh that made him grin. He wasn't unused to making a girl laugh, but he liked the feeling. He was getting the hang of her game, and he liked it. He might have sat down on the seat next to her and tried for another story, or tried to get another from her, except this thin guy that smelled like cinnamon and pink was still sitting behind him on the seat next to Aurora's. Aurura's other side was taken by a girl animatedly talking to a bored looking guy. Both of these characters might had made for good stories except for their immediate closeness, and he figured Aurora wouldn't appreciate an attempt at them. Nor would she probably appreciate Illias telling one of them to scram, but maybe that was better anyway. He got to continue standing next to her, and their closeness reminded him that there were other topics they could try, now that the ice was broken. "So, these happy endings," he began, angling his body toward hers. "I assume you want one yourself. How are you planning to snag yourself one of those?" WC: 456 Tag: Aurora Swiftgold

Aurora laughed as he told her that her parents' love story was a tough standard. She shrugged before looking out at the people. "I don't necessarily think they're tough standards. I think they set an example. I don't need the love at first sight or having to pick the right man from a pool of men. I just need the ending." She thought about how it had been love at first sight with her before, and that hadn't worked. Maybe it was something that had managed to work for her parents, but it definitely wasn't something for her. She wanted the trials that came with everything. She wanted the work that came along with making a great relationship last. But, most of all, she just wanted someone who would try for her. She wanted someone to want to try, even when things started to get rough. Someone who would always pick her, even on the days that he didn't like her. She wanted the ending that her parents had. She'd settle for even half of their great love story.
The brunette looked back to Illias and saw his grin, and a smile instantly came on her face. Smiles weren't something Aurora wasn't used to seeing. She saw them frequently with her clients and even more so with her parents. But there was something about his smile that made it feel different. He seemed more... authentic when he smiled. When he had first approached her, she thought that he would be like all of the other men. She assumed that he would be disingenuous, and she thought that she had been right before he started playing her game with her. But when he smiled, she couldn't help but feel as if her assumptions about him were too hastily made. Maybe she should have given him the benefit of the doubt when he first came over, but she couldn't change how she felt in the past. She could, however, change how she treated him from that point on out. So she took a sip of her drink before looking back to the crowd. "You should smile more," she said before looking back at him. "I like it when you smile."
She watched as he angled himself towards her, so she turned on her stool to mirror his action. She grinned at his question before shaking her head. "I'm not going to be snagging it. When the right guy comes around, he'll make an effort. He'll try because he'll know that's what I want him to do. But, hopefully, he'll try mainly because he realizes that he wants to be with me." She shrugged before taking a sip of her drink. "I don't want the one-night flings or the whirlwind romances that end just as quickly as they begin. I want something real. And until I find that something real, I'll just be here waiting and taking my life one day at a time."

"I've always been more a fan of the journey myself," Illias returned. He wasn't sure what to make of this ending obsession. Endings were almost always the last thing on his mind, which the exception of course being his work. He'd been ambitious in climbing the ladder in the Games, and when it came down to the actual planning, the ending was the most important part. He had to make sure 23 contestants failed where one succeeded, though of course things needed to be entertaining and safe for the public along the ride. It was no easy task, but one he could handle. When it came to people, endings were never the point. Eryx was a part of him forever, and there was never any question about that. Ambrosia had been, once. Little nephew Saraph, whom he hoped he got to see, was important as well. But women were temporary, and that was easiest. The compliment Aurora gave him next was surprising, but not unwelcome. "Laugh more, and I promise to smile more," he returned, still smiling. The change in her demeanor toward him now versus just a few minutes ago was startling. Perhaps Illias really was on his game tonight. It was true that not every girl liked a man who came on to her heavily, though there were a fair amount in his experience that did. Having to change his game for a woman like Aurora was refreshing. Sometimes getting a woman into bed with him was just far too easy, which also made it incredibly easy to leave her and not think of her again the next morning. So many women knew his face, or just wanted to be complimented to death for one night so they felt special. It was easy to find a girl with low expectations, but more difficult to find and woo one with high expectations. Illias' brow furrowed just a little as Aurora explained about how she was going to get her happy ending. It sounded pretty swoony romantic, if you asked him. It was another one of those impossible dreams, like telling little girls that one day their prince would come. Eryx was the closest Illias had met to princely, whatever that really meant, and most of the Capitol held the opposite. If Aurora tended to just wait for Mr. Perfect, she'd still be waiting at 90 years old. "So you're just going to sit back and wait for him to swoop in?" Illias asked, an honest attempt at clarification. "Aurora, sweetheart, no man is going to fight for you if you don't put in a little of the effort yourself." He paused a moment, knowing he needed to take a step back from that approach if he was going to avoid having her return to the cold brush-off version of herself he had originally met. Romantics could be hard to entangle with. "Sometimes you have to grab onto life," he continued, taking one of her hands in his as he met her eyes. "Taking risks and throwing yourself out to get heartbroken and trampled on can be a rush. Then when you finally get what you want from it?" He raised their connected hands higher as if he meant to kiss the back of her hand. He stopped her hand a mere inch from his lips. "Your perfect man might have earned your love by the end of that fight, but will you have earned his?" Illias' eyebrows raised in a question and he lowered her hand, a small half smile on his lips. Aurora pursed her lips as she listened to what Illias said, genuinely thinking about what he said. She had always been one to focus on the endings and never emphasize the journey, but wasn't that normal? It certainly was when it came to her work. How she managed to throw off some of the biggest events didn't matter, just the fact that she could was the important part. The ending, the party, was what was important. Her parents would tell her the beginning of their story together, the proposal, and then where they were at the end. They never emphasized the middle parts. She had just started to think that the middles were unimportant. She looked back to Illias and shrugged her shoulders. "I can see why you would be. When I think about it, the ending wouldn't happen without the journey. So, perhaps in a sense, we're both right. Maybe the journey is just as important as the ending." She gave him a grin before nudging him with her elbow. "Can we agree on that, or should we just agree to disagree?"
The brunette smirked before laughing softly, shaking her head. "I'll keep laughing as long as you keep making comments that would make me laugh." She looked at him before reaching for her drink, taking a small sip before looking back out at the people who were still enjoying the party she had planned. She wasn't sure if it was the fact that she was on her third drink or if it was because she was just in a good mood, but she was more welcoming to the idea of Illias hanging around her for the rest of the evening. Granted, they would go their separate ways, but she could feel herself warming to the idea of maybe actually giving him a phone number in case he wanted to get a hold of her some day. She looked at his profile for a second, smiling softly to herself. She wouldn't give him a number. He'd have to find her if he wanted something more. They were bound to run into each other again at some point.
Aurora looked at him, listening intently. She was about to speak when she felt him take a hold of her hand. She looked down briefly before going back to look him in the eyes. She could feel her breathing get more and more shallow with each passing second, and she bit down on her lower lip gently as he continued to talk. She could barely hear his words over the sound of her pulse in her ears as he brought her hand up so it was almost touching her lips. She looked at him as he lowered her hand, giving him a slightly less bright smile as she looked at him. She looked at him and continued holding onto his hand before turning and looking at the people, taking a deep breath in and then exhaling before she turned back to him.
"Illy, darling," she said, smiling to herself as she shook her head. "I didn't say I wasn't going to put in effort. Relationships all require work from both sides, and I'm willing to put in that work." She turned so that she was actually facing him. She placed her hand on the side of his face, giving him a smile as she looked into his eyes. "I've had the heartbreak before, trust me. I don't want to make the same mistake again, so I'm more cautious now." She slowly stood, keeping the physical contact that she had made with him. "I want the effort for someone to pursue me, and then once I'm sure it's something I want to pursue, I'll put in the fight to keep it." She leaned in so that her lips were right by his ear before whispering, "By the end of it, I will have earned his love just as much as he has earned mine." She then turned her head to press a light kiss on his cheek. "Now, just because I'm curious, how should a girl like myself take a risk in the name of love? Any ideas, Mr. Delos?"

It seemed like Aurora could turn even this difference of opinion into something sweet and compromising. Was it that the girl lacked any hard and fast convictions about things? Or was she just really that positive and willing to give? It wasn't like he regularly ran into stubborn stick-in-the-muds, but it was still a bit surprising. "Agree to disagree," he returned, with a light smile to say there were no hard feelings about it. Sweet as that was, he couldn't change his mind quite that easily. He was always playing for now, not the endgame, and he wasn't sure he could let himself think they were both just as important. Playing for the final result meant something so much different than playing for the hear and now, and Illias hadn't done much of anything to set himself up for a good endgame. "Deal," he agreed at her next comment, then finished off his own drink as she turned to look at the party. He caught Frank's attention and held up a single finger, sliding the glass toward him. Frank was good at what he did, deserving the the name Illias had given him, and he slid the new drink over without a word. Illias turned his attention briefly back to the party, which he couldn't care less about at this point. None of the rest of the people here mattered much anymore, as he knew that the rest of his night would be focused on the girl he was with in one way or another. If she turned him down, or their conversation ended prematurely, he'd probably just go home. He'd already done all the mingling he needed to do for the night. When his attention was back on Aurora and he was playing with her, he couldn't help but be satisfied at the reaction he was getting for her. His gestures and words were simple enough, but he could tell that for those handful of seconds, he had her hooked. She bit on her lip, and her chest rose and fell faster than it had before. He loved watching a reaction like this, and it was definitely the intended goal. He could tell she was disappointed when he didn't follow through, but there was no rush. Frank had said she was hard to get, and she too had said she was, so he planned to take his time with her. He wanted her to want him, not to force her into anything. What Illias was not expecting, however, was how Aurora turned things back on him. She turned to face him directly, emboldened suddenly. Her hand was warm on his cheek, her use of his nickname creating an intimacy that was furthered by the following words and actions. He liked a girl that could bring her own game to the table, but he certainly hadn't been expecting it. The rest of the party could have caught on fire and he wouldn't have cared as he let himself be caught up in her. She was captivating, moving slowly and deliberately. He registered the words, but the feel of them was more impactful than the individual syllables himself. He had played her game, and it looked like she could play his game as well. When she finished with a kiss and a question, Illias didn't pull back in the slightest. Instead, he held her eyes, enjoying the electricity between them at their closeness and her questions that were, to him, edging on suggestive. "A few," he conceded. One of his hands moved to rest gently on her lower back, pulling himself only the tiniest bit closer to her. He was silent a moment longer, letting her wonder that, before he went on. "I'm a risk, Miss Swiftgold. Maybe one of the greater risks." He raised his eyebrows a little, a slight comedic gesture in his otherwise serious demeanor. Then he set down his drink, moving his newly freed hand to rest gently on her neck, his thumb just below her jawline. Both of his touches were light, just past whispers. Half of his lips curled into that signature half smile. "Your move." WC: 690 Tag: Aurora SwiftgoldNotes: There is so much game in this thread. So much.

While Aurora placed emphasis on how things would end rather than how things got to where they were, she could see the value in the journey. Illias had made an interesting point to her, and she wasn't one to continue arguing her beliefs when someone else's beliefs were just as plausible. She didn't have to believe that the journey was just as important because she knew that she would always value the endings over the journey. But she was willing to put it aside for an evening to try and get to know somebody better. So when Illias agreed to disagree and gave her a smile, Aurora couldn't help but give him a smile back in return. She knew that she wouldn't change his mind, and that was okay with her. She didn't need to change his mind about anything because he was interesting just the way he was.
The brunette had not expected for her brain and body to react the way they did to the man's touch. She knew that he was trying to get a rise from her, which made everything in her want to fight the reaction, but she just couldn't. And when he hadn't continued through, she knew that the disappointment showed on her face, despite her best efforts to keep it at bay. There was something about him that just pulled her towards him, though she couldn't put a finger on what exactly it was. All she knew was that she wanted to figure out how someone like him could cause her heart to go pitter patter and turn everything hazy just by a simple hand-holding close to his lips.
Aurora watched Illias intently, almost waiting for him to back away and try to get things back to where they had been prior to his game of the evening. She was about to look away when she heard his voice, and she cocked an eyebrow at him as she looked intently into his eyes. She felt his hand on her lower back, and her breath hitched involuntarily as she watched him move slightly closer to him. She let her teeth graze her lower lip and she tilted her head to the side as he stayed silent, wondering what he could possibly say next. When he spoke again to say that he would be a risk, she let out a soft laugh before watching him set down his drink. The laughter stopped almost as quickly as it had started when he moved his hand so that it was resting on her neck, and she looked back into his eyes. She noticed the half smile on his face, and her leg could have turned to jello. But that wasn't who she was, and that was most definitely not the woman that she wanted to show Illias.
She heard his words and let a smirk play on her lips as she moved a step closer to him, letting her leg touch his as she moved the hand she had on his cheek away for a moment so that she could snake her arm around his neck. She leaned in so that her lips were a just a few mere centimeters from his, and she smiled as she let her eyes flutter shut. She whispered softly, her tone hinted with a small portion of seduction, "Show me why I should take a risk on you, Illias. Show me what makes you special," before pulling back slightly to look up at him with her big brown eyes. "Give me a reason to take a risk on you." Illias was locked in this moment so completely. There really was nothing like that initial spark with a girl, that moment where the world around could be falling apart and neither person would care much. He'd manufactured dozens of such moments, but that didn't make them any less exciting when they came around. Sometimes, that moment couldn't come at all with a girl, but for Illias, that usually didn't mean he'd walk away either. When you weren't expecting perfect, or even hoping for it, any sort of general attraction would do just fine. This moment with Aurora though certainly wasn't the settling type though. It was definitely worth the effort he'd put in so far tonight. When Illias would look back on this moment later - because he would, for what better use of memory? - he would see his mistake. Aurora and Illias were looking for two very different things. Illias was looking for temporary, for a distraction, and Aurora was looking for forever. He knew that right now, and it wasn't an uncommon thing to run across when wooing a girl. But he always liked those clean breaks later, or if not a total break, than a parting with the understanding that if they got together again, it would be for another round of temporary fun. Right now, he was putting false hope in this girl, because he'd already given up on love. After the missed chance with Ambrosia, work took over his life, and free time meant only a brief break. He couldn't take his time getting to know a girl and besides, he already had a solid reputation as a player to stand on. He did just fine on his own, and any sort of relationship would only slow him down. Those had become ideas that had stuck to him over the years, and perhaps it was mean to let this girl think he was something different. He was asking her to take a chance on him, when he really wasn't worthy of that chance. It might make things more complex later, but he had already given himself to this current moment, and there was no going back. Aurora pulled in closer, electricity running along the places in which they touched. Her eyes closed, but instead of kissing him, she whispered a request. Then her brown eyes met his, and she asked it again. Perhaps he could have delayed this moment longer and found something to actually say. He could extol his own virtues - he certainly wasn't above that - to give her an actual reason to risk anything for him. But all of his usual lines felt wrong now, and he was sure anyway that she shouldn't actually put her heart out for him. He had to see this moment through though, and there was only one good way to do that. Illias' eyes stayed locked on hers for a breath, then he closed that final short distance to touch his lips to hers. It was a whisper of a kiss, lasting only a couple of seconds. It was intentionally teasing, but it was enough to give both of them a taste. When he pulled back, it was to less than an inch away. He moved his thumb along the line of her jaw, his eyes flickering to hers again as another breath passed. Then he shifted, bringing them a little closer, and kissed her again. This kiss was its predecessor's opposite. His lips crashed against hers, the hand at her lower back pulling her against him. He inhaled, using all of his senses to take her in. This kiss was intense, fueled by desire, and matched the first only in that it too was brief. It was over nearly as soon as it had begun, and too soon he was pulling back his lips and loosening his hold on her. It felt as if Illias' breath had been pulled from him, his heart beating quickly to keep up. He had enjoyed that as much as he meant her to, and it took a moment for him to find his voice again. "That's one," he said, his voice low. "Or is it two?" He forced himself to loosen his grip even more, lowering the hand that had been on her back. He invited back in some of the space between them, his only intentional point of contact being the hand that rested gently on her neck. This only worked now if she reciprocated his clear intentions in some way. His eyebrows raised in a question as he awaited her response. WC: 762 Tag: Aurora Swiftgold

Aurora would have been lying if she had even tried to tell herself that she wasn't feeling the spark between them. While she knew that sparks meant nothing except that there was physical chemistry between them, she knew that it was a start. She knew that it was a start because she had let it happen. She hadn't welcomed a spark like that in two years because of fear: fear that it wouldn't work out, but also fear that it would but that she simply wouldn't be enough again. She wanted the chance to fall in love, to find forever, but she was more scared of it than she had cared to admit to herself. She hadn't been enough in her previous relationship, so why would she be enough for anyone else? She knew that she wanted to be someone's only, but what if she was only destined to be someone's one of many? Those were the thoughts that kept her from welcoming and embracing any form of spark.
But then came Illias, who had worked the entire evening to prove to her that he was something different. A man who was willing to play her happy ending game, a man who wasn't scared to disagree with her, but, most importantly, a man who didn't shy away from a challenge. She didn't have to try to force meaningless small talk and she didn't have to hide her true intentions. He knew what she was looking for and had shown curiosity about how she was going to go about finding that. Then, of course, he disputed her way and told her to take a risk, but more specifically, a risk on him. When those words had left his mouth, she couldn't think straight. If he had been just like all of the other men that had tried picking her up before, he would have left her earlier in the night when she was being her most difficult. They certainly wouldn't have stayed, played a few games, given life advice, and then proceed to tell her to take a risk on them, right? That showed her that Illias had to be different. Whether or not anything would come of their evening together, she would at least have the faith that there was someone out there who wasn't so self-serving as to actually get to know her and ask the meaningful questions. It was crazy to her that a random man at a party could do this to her, but she had hope again: hope that what she was looking for wasn't completely absurd and could even be attainable.
Aurora kept her eyes on Illias before she felt the soft touch of his lips on hers. The kiss was short, sweet even, and she looked into his eyes as she felt his thumb move along her jawline. She could feel the shakiness in her breath before having her breath stop as he kissed her again, only this time with a fervor and intensity that she hadn't experienced in quite a long time. She kissed him back just as deeply, letting him bring her body closer to his. However, the kiss was still short, but no one that had seen it could ever use the word sweet to define the kiss they had shared the second time around. She felt his grip loosen, and a part of her started to worry if the spark she felt in that kiss had all been in her head. Was she simply being deluded in thinking that there was a spark? Had he not felt it in the same sense that she had?
The sound of her pulse flooded through her head, her breath just as shaky as it had been before their kiss. She looked into his eyes, looking for some sense of reassurance that she wasn't sure would actually be given. Then she heard him speak, and she couldn't help the shaky laugh that left her lips. His words and apparent breathlessness were somewhat reassuring. She gave him a small smile, trying to ignore the fact that he was putting distance between them, a distance that she didn't want there to be. While she was still set in her ways of no one-night flings, she didn't want this to be their one and only moment. So when she looked at him and saw his eyebrows raise, she gave him a smile before taking a step towards him and kissing his lips softly, letting the kiss linger on their lips longer than either of the previous ones had. When she pulled away, she looked up at him and gave him a smile. "I was kind of expecting some other reason I should take a risk on you," she teased before chuckling quietly to herself. "But the reasons you provided were still greatly appreciated. I'll take them into consideration."

Illias smiled at the little laugh that came from Aurora's lips after his words. It was a little breathless, just like he felt. She had kissed him back, and that was a good sign. She could have pushed him away or just been stone, but she hadn't. It was a good sign, but any girl could kiss a guy back for a handful of seconds and not mean anything by it. A few seconds was barely long enough to form much of an opinion on the matter if it took you by surprise like that, though since Illias wasn't surprised, he had created an opinion. He wanted more - of that, of her. This wasn't a surprising conclusion to reach. He'd been building this up, after all, and she hadn't disappointed him yet. His kisses had been a question though, and when she stepped forward again, he had his answer. Illias welcome the return of their closeness, and when she kissed him, he returned it. This third kiss was more akin to the first, but it felt deeper somehow. It was an answer, not a question. It wasn't rushed, but lingered. His hand returned to her lower back, and he relished the warmth that spread through him from all their points of contact. When the kiss was over, he didn't pull his body away again. He kept her close, the only distance between them being what was necessary to continue any sort of conversation. Yes, he wanted her for tonight, and it seemed like she was reciprocating some of that desire. "When can I hope for a decision?" Illias asked, his eyes looking into hers. He tucked away a stray piece of her brown hair, letting his fingers linger against the soft skin of her cheek once the action was finished. "You've got a man on the edge of his metaphorical seat here, Aurora." He was really on the edge of asking her to get out of here with him, but his brain cautioned just a bit more patience. She wouldn't have a reputation as being hard to get if just asking her something like that would do the trick. He might have started winning her over to his side, but one wrong-timed question could be a strikeout. He felt that question was close though. And if she said no when it came? Well, it was a rare girl that Illias would pursue after a denial, but who knew? Maybe she fit that bill. WC: 413 Tag: Aurora Swiftgold

As Illias' hand made contact with her lower back once again, Aurora could feel the electricity as it jolted through her veins. She wanted to spend more time with him, that was quite evident to her. But she also knew that what she wanted wasn't a one-night thing. She wanted something real, and she saw a potential in Illias. He made her feel things and see things in a way she hadn't thought of before, and she wanted to explore that more. So when the kiss was over and he kept the contact, continuing to hold her close to him, she couldn't wipe the smile off of her face. They had the chemistry that a couple needed, but she wanted to see if there was anything more to Illias Delos. She knew that there was so much she had left to discover about him, but that was something only time could unveil.
The brunette looked into his eyes, biting down on her lower lip as he brushed away a piece of hair that she hadn't even noticed had fallen out of place. She could feel the lingering touch of his fingers on her skin, and she could have melted on the spot. But he had asked her a question, and she had an answer for him. It might not be an answer that he would want to hear, but it was the only answer she would give. She looked at him before moving her hand to hold the hand that had tucked the hair behind her ear. She gave him a small smile before taking a step in and kissing his cheek lightly. "I'll have an answer for you after you offer to buy me dinner and we go out for that dinner." She chuckled before taking a step back, knowing that she needed to create some distance between them. "I told you, Illy dear, I'm not one to enter decisions lightly. Take me to dinner, and I'll have a decision for you by the end of the evening." She then turned to Inigo and gave him a smile before holding her hand up so that she could pay her tab.
As soon as Inigo brought her check, she slid some cash into the wallet before taking the pen and grabbing Illias' hand. She wrote down her number on the back of his hand, emphasizing it with a heart before dropping his hand and setting the pen back onto the bar. She leaned up and pressed another soft kiss to his lips before pulling away and giving him a playful smirk. "I hope I'll hear from you soon, Illias." Then she turned and made her way to the exit so that she could go home and wait.

Well, it looked like that question was out of the question for tonight. Aurora's answer wasn't the one Illias had hoped for. Instead, she was asking him for a date - one he would pay for of course. Of course, because that was what people who wanted to be in relationships did. That was what men did when they had asked a woman to take a chance on them. The difference between those people and Illias was that he hadn't meant it. He wanted her to take a chance on him tonight, and after that, it didn't matter. It never mattered after that, or it least it never had. "Those are some turns," he replied, keeping the flirtation in his voice and hiding the disappointment. Because he was disappointed. Illias was also a bit angry. All of that work had gone into this interaction, only for it to be deferred. He'd gotten a few good kisses out of the deal, and for a little while, he'd had a genuinely good time. She had turned out to be a different girl than he expected, and while her optimism bordered on naive, he'd actually kind of enjoyed it. He had enjoyed her, with their little games. She could play the imaginative, sweet storyteller and the seductress both, which were unexpected qualities in a single person. But he hadn't changed her mind, just like she hadn't changed his. The space was back between them again as Aurora turned to pay her check. Illias looked to the bartender, who'd raised an eyebrow in a question as Aurora was busy putting the cash down. Illias gave a single shake of his head, and Inigo returned with a small smile, as if he'd somehow known. He probably had, and was pleased with himself. Illias' smile was gone, but he turned his attention back to Aurora as she took his hand. He watched the play of numbers take shape on his hand, finished with a little heart that made him smirk a bit. God, he had a girl's number and a heart on his hand now, and of course, he'd given her the impression that he'd probably use said number. He'd thought he was on his game tonight, but maybe he was just playing the wrong game entirely. Aurora kissed him again, and Illias couldn't help but enjoy it. This girl did have a sort of power. When she pulled back and smirked at him, he returned the gesture. He didn't intend to call, but that was no reason to burn a bridge. Maybe the silence between them would only make her want him more, and when they ran into each other again - as they were sure to do - she'd be more pliable. "Until we meet again, Aurora," he returned, giving a playful two-fingered salute before she turned away. Then he proceeded to watch her leave, leaning against he bar as she disappeared through the crowd. She left an impression, this Aurora - a stronger one than most girls. But he was still Illias Delos. He closed up his tab with Inigo, downed the rest of his drink, and left, deciding that this party had been a bust. It had to be, if he was heading home alone.
