"You're very lonely, aren't you? You might have people around you every day, and you might have women lining up to crawl into your bed with you, but that's just it, isn't it?"Nessarose Grove had said to Illias once, in this very place. It was one of the many things she'd said to him that had stuck in his head, unable to completely leave. She was convinced that he was lonely - well that, and that he was a killer. Illias had denied both. He had denied them because they couldn't be true. You couldn't be lonely if you were hardly ever alone. You couldn't be a killer if you'd never lifted a sword or a knife. But sometimes, the words came back, swimming in his brain. The accusation of being a killer was far easier to dismiss than the one that he was lonely. Illias understood his job, knowing that someone needed to do it and it might as well be him. He was good at it. Loneliness, though, had a tendency to creep up on him. He could be lying in bed with a beautiful woman, hearing her soft sleeping breaths, and feel like he was on an island by himself. He could be at a party with friends he'd had half his life and feel like the only one that might have something real to say if only it wasn't them around him. He could hear the couple in the apartment next to him fighting or screwing or laughing, and get this sudden pain in his chest at their forever. There'd always been two things in life that Illias could really count on: his twin, Eryx, and getting any bedpartner he wanted. Each of those were supposed to fill the extracurricular needs he had, and for a long time, they had. He still had both of those things going for him, but it wasn't enough anymore. He knew Eryx would do anything for him, but Illias couldn't talk to him about loneliness. Eryx still had the mess to deal with concerning his wife and son, but even if he hadn't, loneliness didn't seem like a problem to bother his brother with. As for the bedpartners, it seemed harder and harder to find one worthy of Illias' many talents. Everything was too easy, and the sex was so often the same. And none of them stuck around more than a time or two - Illias' own choice, of course, but he sometimes wish one of them had felt worthy of keeping around. That's when Illias remembered Aurora Swiftgold. It had been weeks ago now since he had met her. Despite being on his A game, she hadn't spent the night with him. Conversely, he hadn't called the number she'd written on his hand. After getting home from the party, he'd simply washed it off, and so any temptation of calling her back was gone. A time or two, he actually had been tempted. She'd stuck in his mind too, in a far different way than Nessarose did. Their interaction had left him wanting more, but her early departure had told him to let it lie. He wasn't relationship material, and that's what she wanted. But they'd made each other laugh, and he'd been able to forget about everything else for that short time they had been together. She was very different from him, and yet they were similar in a way that he couldn't ever admit. They both didn't want to be alone forever. All of these thoughts ran through Illias' mind as he leaned against a railing overlooking the train station. It was busy, as it always was. He was alone in a rare moment of having nothing concrete to do. Games planning was moving along normally, and it was hours before it was dark enough to have any party. He was dressed plainly in slacks and a sweater, his blonde hair slightly disheveled. Every now and then, someone would recognize him and exchanged a quick greeting, but he was thankfully left mostly alone. Illias wasn't even sure why he'd come here. Maybe it was because this was where he'd met Nessarose, in this place that he had copied for the Games and ended up as her final battleground. It wasn't that he hadn't thought about loneliness before their little chat, but the fact that someone he didn't know had seen it in him had made him realize it was more a part of him than he knew. Now, he wanted to undo what she'd said to him, and where else but here? WC: 765 Tag: Aurora Swiftgold Notes: Kind of a depressing starter, I know, but it should set Illias' mood up for an interesting interaction with these two maybe?

Come on, skinny love, just last the year. Pour a little salt, we were never here.
"Thank you for the meal, Tobias. It was lovely." Aurora grinned at her date, the one her parents had set her up with. She watched as he leaned in so that he could kiss her, but she turned her head, letting his lips graze her cheek. She gave a tight smile before waving goodbye, watching as he turned and left the train station. She let out a breath, one that she hadn't even realized she had been holding before looking down at her feet.
Weeks ago, she had gone to family dinner happy and even hopeful. Her parents loved that side of their daughter and wanted that side to stay the prominent side. So when weeks passed and her mood deteriorated, they figured that they would set her up with one of their friends' son. While she was thankful for the distraction, her heart wasn't in it. Her heart was with a man who made up stories about random party-goers with her and with the man that had made her knees weak; the man who she had given her number to that didn't call.
Her date with Tobias hadn't been awful. In fact, it was everything that a girl could have hoped for. He took her to a lovely dinner, pulled out her chair, made jokes, complimented her; he was the perfect gentleman. But his jokes didn't make her face hurt from smiling like Illias Delos' jokes had, and the touch of his hand didn't make her heart flutter. Tobias was a great man, but he wasn't Illias. And even though Illias had proven to Aurora through not calling that her initial assessment of him had been correct, her heart still wondered about the what-ifs.
What if she had gone home with him that night? Would he have used her for the evening and then left her to dry the next day? Was there something that she could have done that would have convinced him to give her a call? No, she had decided. There wasn't anything she could have done to change his mind. She wanted a life, and he wanted a night. That was the difference. Aurora simply wasn't good enough yet again. She wasn't good enough to have one guy want to spend more than an evening with her. That was what hurt the most, she thought. Not that he didn't call, but that she had seen something in him. She had a glimpse of what could have been, and he didn't want that. At least, he didn't want that with her. Maybe there was someone else out there for him, someone who made him smile the way that she had and made him laugh. She didn't want there to be because she had felt special that night. She had felt as if they were the only two people in the room. She thought that he had felt that way about her, but evidently she was wrong.
That's all Aurora would ever be. All she would ever be was wrong about people. She wanted a lifetime, but maybe she wasn't worthy enough to have one. Not one that her parents had, at least. She was never going to be the person that found that kind of love. Illias had proven that to her. She was just a girl for the evening, for a quick bout of fun before the sun rose again. That was all she would ever be. But how could he have seen her that way when he had held her the way he had? How could those have been his thoughts when he was telling her that he wanted her to laugh more? How could those have been his intentions when he told her that he would meet her again? Illias Delos was a walking contradiction, and yet somehow she was still infatuated with him.
She sighed softly to herself before turning and walking into the train station. She had told Tobias that she needed to go somewhere for work afterwards, but that had been a lie. She wanted to go to the train station because it was the only place she felt like she could think. It was her safe space, and it was where she could people watch and imagine that somebody was having their happy ending, because she was sure now that one was never going to come to her. She made her way up and looked around, seeing how barren it was. There were a few businessmen, but they were gone as quickly as they had appeared. She looked over to the railing to see a man who looked familiar standing there. That was when her heart stopped because she realized who it was. She stiffened before walking up to him, standing beside him without making a noise. She bit the inside of her cheek before looking to him and following where his gaze was. "I was right about you. You told me to take a risk on you, that those weren't your intentions." She felt her voice shake as her throat grew tight. "How can you be so lonely and not even realize that you're pushing people who want to know you away?"

A voice cut in to Illias' thoughts, and he turned quickly toward the sound. He hadn't heard anyone come up, but there was Aurora Swiftgold, and she was yelling at him. He felt a myriad of things upon seeing her again - warmth, desire, anger, and failure. She was beautiful, even this angry, and that of course reminded him of how she had felt when he'd held her, when he'd kissed her. But her demeanor and the end of their previous encounter was bringing the latter two of his emotions to the forefront. He had failed to secure her that night, had failed to get her out of his head, and had failed to be this stupid prince she was desperately dreaming of that. All of those failures simply fueled his anger - though whether he was more angry at himself or her, it was hard to tell. Aurora calling him lonely, in this place, was like a slap in the face, and he flinched. Usually for Illias, it was easy to keep his anger in check. It didn't surface often, but when it did, it was quick but rough. It didn't help that he was already in a mood that wasn't easy to climb out of. He didn't want to be dealing with this right now. "I'm not in the mood, Aurora," he replied evenly to her, then turned his attention back to the train station. He'd meant that to be the end of what he said, but he could still feel her next to him. Her presence was like something just on the edge of his vision, like no matter where you turned it would always be there until you looked it square in the face. He had meant to be alone with his thoughts, to watch other people in an attempt to forget about himself, but it wouldn't work with Aurora here. Now that she had run into him, he found that he really did have plenty to say to her. Illias turned back to Aurora, taking a step in her direction. "This is why," he said accusingly, gesturing toward her. "This is why I don't bother with this mess. I don't need this." He didn't. With everything in his life, the last thing he needed was some angry girl calling him out for not being a guy he would never be. Sure, he'd tried to convince her he actually was that guy and he shouldn't have, but when he'd proven himself wrong, she didn't need to throw it in his face. This was why he had accepted his loneliness, usually. People disappoint you, and there are better things to waste your energy on than fighting not to constantly disappoint them. "Congratulations on being right, and sorry I'm not your perfect dream man. Hate to break it to you, but I'm not anyone's." He shook his head and looked ahead again, leaning against the railing. He ran a hand through his hair, already feeling some of his anger dissolve into a sort of resignation. He couldn't focus on any of the people going about their lives in front of him, but they were far easier to look at than the woman next to him. "I'm tired of everyone telling me what I am." Aurora could feel the anger bubbling up within her, but she knew it was only a mask. She knew that the anger had very little to do with actually being angry, but everything to do with how hurt she had been. She was content the night that she had met Illias with the idea of not meeting anybody. In fact, that was what she had intended. But he had to come and change everything. He threw out her plans, and he had somehow managed to infiltrate her everyday thoughts. When she would be at work and see his name on a guest list, she would wonder if he would actually show up to the party. She hoped for an encounter with him, wanting it to be smoother than how the encounter was currently going. She wanted a happy ending, where they both agreed that not being together would be best or both agree that they should try. She didn't want the heartache that she was feeling. That was something she had already told Illias, but he had completely disregarded her feelings and tossed them aside like garbage.
His voice rang in her ears and she could feel the coldness of his tone in her soul. How could he be so different now than how he was the night that they had met? She hadn't shown him a side that wasn't like her, so she didn't understand why he was being so short with her. She watched as he turned away from her, feeling her heart break as he looked out on the people. She was tempted to turn and leave, but a part of her felt the inclination to stay put next to the man that obviously wanted nothing to do with her at this point in time.
When he walked towards her, she looked at him and could feel the tears stinging her eyes as he spoke his bitter, nasty words to her. She bit the inside of his cheek, trying to formulate a response before hearing his last few words. "I'm tired of everyone telling me what I am." She sighed and watched him for a moment, staying put as she thought through the words that he had just spoken. She took a step towards him, letting her eyes close as she took a hold of his hand and held it gently. She took in a deep breath before turning to look at him. "Illias, no one other than yourself can tell you who you are. We can tell you our perceptions and how it appears to us, but only you know who you really are." She gave him a small smile before letting go of his hand and then turning her gaze back to the people that he had been watching.
"I didn't want to be right, you know," she whispered before looking down. "I mean, I did at the beginning of the night. But you managed to change my mind, Illias Delos." She laughed humorlessly before shaking her head. "I actually wanted you to call," she said, more to herself than actually to him. She looked down before turning and leaning her back against the railing. She looked behind where they were standing, shaking her head before turning her head to look at him. "You seem like you have a lot on your mind. Do you want to talk about it?" She laid her hand on his forearm before shrugging her shoulders. "Or we can play the happy endings game since apparently neither of us are getting a happy ending any time soon."

Illias winced when Aurora took his hand, but he didn't jerk it immediately back. He couldn't really have said why, other than that the gesture surprised him. He had fully intended and expected his words to make her go away. If he'd run into her at a party or, wonder of wonders, actually called her, this second interaction would have gone far different. He would be his normal cool self, and it seemed impossible that he wouldn't be able to get her to bed on the second try. As it was, she had caught him at a bad time. He even probably could have made up for this encounter later if she had just left, but instead she had stayed. He didn't know what to say to the words she gave him, and simply watched her for a moment as she turned her gaze back to the people in the station. Of course that was true, but it didn't exactly stop people from giving him labels anyway. Many of the labels fueled his ego - labels whispered in bed or passed around in the Games room. But the negative ones seemed to have the longer consequences. He knew and understood who he was, but the world got different faces for different occasions. He returned his gaze to the station as Aurora went on. He only glanced at her again when she said that she'd wanted him to call. I actually wanted to call sometimes too, he thought, but wouldn't say it out loud. That would only make her want to ask why he hadn't, and that was a road he surely didn't want to travel down with this near-stranger, even if she was beautiful and charming most of the time. "I'm not in the mood for games either," he replied to her questions, avoiding the first for the time being. It would be a welcome distraction, true, but his stories probably wouldn't have the happiest of endings. Hers probably would, regardless of how mad she was at him. But he had another question before they could get to that point. He turned to face her more, leaning sideways against the railing now. "Why are you still here, Aurora?" he asked, not unkindly. "Why did you come up to me at all?" He was genuinely curious. The anger had already left his voice just like the anger mostly had left his body. He was calm again, having collected himself some in the wake of both of their outbursts. Whether that was because of his normal roller coaster of emotions or her presence, it was hard to say. Aurora noticed his wincing and it felt like a small jab to the heart, but she took note that he didn't immediately take his hand back. What she had said to him surprised even herself. She wanted to leave, to be able to forget about him and about their interactions, but she couldn't bring herself to. She couldn't bring herself to leave someone that was so obviously hurting, even if he wouldn't admit it. She also couldn't bring herself to leave someone that she just clicked with. She knew that it sounded silly, but she just felt like herself around Illias. He didn't expect her to say or do the right things and he embraced her for who she was. There was a lot to be said about someone who did that, and it felt good to be around someone like that, even when they were being grumpy.
She could feel his gaze on her, but she continued to watch the people. She wanted to look at him, but she felt like she was cellophane and that he could see through her. When she had approached him, she hadn't expected to end up being nice to him. She had just wanted to get her piece said and leave. But then he spoke back to her and she could tell that he was hurting. She didn't know why, but she could tell that there was something. As much as she hated the fact that he didn't call, she wanted to be there for him. She had seen the light-hearted and carefree Illias, and she wanted to do whatever she could to help bring that side back to the surface. When she had whispered the words about wanting him to call, she could feel his eyes turn to her, but she couldn't meet them. She didn't want him to see how hurt she had actually been. He didn't need that on his conscience along with whatever else was giving him troubles.
The brunette looked down at the people, nodding her head as she listened to how he wasn't in the mood for games. She was about to ask him what he was in the mood to do when she noticed his body moving. She turned her head to look at him before listening to his questions. They were understandable questions, but she wasn't sure if she even knew all of the answers, except to the first one. She shrugged her shoulders and looked into his eyes. "I came up to you because it was kind of surreal that you were here. I had just left a date with this genuinely nice guy, but I couldn't enjoy myself because I felt like I was trying to be the right person for him. I couldn't enjoy myself because I kept thinking about how it had been so easy to be myself just a few weeks ago with someone else. So I had him drop me off here because I wanted to gather my thoughts, maybe watch a few happy endings." She sighed and then shook her head. "But then I saw you and I felt compelled to come and say something. That was just the first thing I thought of, I guess."
She then looked into his eyes before giving him a small smile. "And the reason I'm still here is because I was talking with this guy a while back and he told me that if I ever wanted a happy ending, I would need to put in some effort to get a guy to want to fight for me. He told me to take risks for the sake of love." She let out a soft chuckle before shaking her head. "He told me that he was the greatest risk of all, and I want to take a risk for him. I want him to know that I'm still here and still thinking about him." She gave a little shrug before looking down at her feet. "I guess I want him to know that I'm willing to take a risk on him if he's willing to take a chance on me."

Illias listened as Aurora responded to him, giving her his entire attention as a direct result of his own curiosity. He'd dealt with clingy girls before, who wanted more out of him than he was willing to give. They were mostly easy to brush off because there hadn't been anything in them that pulled at Illias in return. In his past escapades, the girls who wanted to stay with him were the girls he cared the least to see again. Of some of the remaining women, this response to their approach would have sent most of them off, either not to be heard from again or easily managed if another meeting occurred. The rest likely wouldn't bother. Despite Illias' normal carerfree demeanor, he did have a very systematic approach to dealing with women he'd slept with. Aurora was different from the pack for two reasons. The first, quite clearly, was the fact that he had yet to actually sleep with her. There was always the pull of an incomplete conquest, and whether in business or in life, he never liked an unfinished challenge. The second difference was that he wasn't eager to get rid of him. She'd stuck around for the moment, and despite his somewhat forced desire to be alone, he didn't really want her to go either. She was sentimental, an optimist with fantastical visions, and yet he was drawn to her all the same. Aurora spoke to him directly, her eyes on his. He wondered briefly what this genuinely nice guy of hers was like, then dismissed it. Even with so vague a description, he could picture the man. He was probably a bit handsome, maybe had a dab of humor, and was a gentleman. He was also boring - or at least, in Illias' experience, people described as "genuinely nice" were always boring. His twin was genuinely nice, but it wasn't what defined him, and so Illias very much doubted that Aurora would have described Eryx as genuinely nice. Then Aurora's words shifted back to their last encounter and the words he'd said then. Under a different circumstance, he might have smiled at the repetition of his own words. Now, though, he understood his mistakes in initially saying them. He would have taken them back if he could, but even so, the words weren't really untrue. He did believe that people had to take risks for love. He did believe that he himself was one of the greater risks, because he was sure to disappoint. This wasn't a self-deprecating thought, but a fact. "That guy gives decent advice," Illias began, "but I don't know how much you can trust him." Putting two fingers under her chin, Illias tilted Aurora's chin up so that her eyes met his again. He did this for two reasons. The first was that, in the right circumstances, this small move was incredibly powerful. With the shy and the sweet girls, it was the most intimate gesture without really being intimate at all. Secondly, he wanted to. This latter reason drove many of the things Illias did, but in this case, he simply wanted to see her face again, and watch any reactions to what he said next. "I'm not a genuinely nice guy. I can do nice, and I can do genuine, and they do coincide occasionally, but I don't think anyone would use that as my descriptor." One side of his mouth quirked up into a smirk, his fingers moving gently from her chin to trace along her jawline and down her neck. "I meant what I said when we met. I always mean what I say, but I was also trying to sleep with you. Your first words about me weren't so wrong." He dropped his hand, leaning against the railing again. "You're beautiful and barely know it, can play me at my game and have your own. Mr. Genuinely Nice would be a better choice, Aurora." WC: 657 Tag: Aurora Swiftgold

Despite what Aurora wanted to think, she knew that Illias was just the kind of person that she would typically go for. Not necessarily the Illias she had assumed he was upon their first encounter, but the Illias that she got to know throughout the night. The version of him that could make her smile until her face hurt and leave her heart beating faster than it would if she had gone on a ten mile run. He was the kind of person that left her intrigued and wanting more.
But then there came his differences, which, if she was being honest with herself, were the things that left her the most intrigued by him. He had joined in with her game that she had played so pessimistically, creating sad endings instead of happy ones. He didn't just agree with every single word she said like most guys did in order to try and get her to have a conversation with them. He instead challenged her and challenged what she believed in when it came to love and romance. And lastly, and probably the most important of all, he didn't call. The one man that Aurora had actually wanted to hear from was the only one who never bothered to give her the time of day after their first encounter. Under any other circumstance, she wouldn't have cared one bit, but something about Illias not calling left her questioning everything she had thought they shared that night.
The brunette looked at him as he began to speak, her breath hitching ever so slightly as he tilted her chin up at him to make their eyes meet. There was something about the way that Illias left her body feeling like putty under his touch, regardless of how loud her brain screamed to get a hold of herself. She listened to his words, feeling her heart sink as he spoke, though her face wouldn't dare betray her by showing it. She fought the shivers that threatened to make their way down her spine as his fingers moved to trace her jawline and then ghost down her neck. She could hear his words and understand them, though all she could think of was how it had to be wrong. This couldn't be the way that things played out for them. She watched as he lowered his hand and moved back against the railing, blinking a couple of times as she began to process what he had said.
"Mr. Genuinely Nice would be a better choice..." Those words rang in her head before she shook it, almost involuntarily before looking back to Illias.
"That's where you're wrong," she said softly before reaching forward and taking a hold of his hand, lacing her fingers with his as she looked down at their hands for what could easily be the last time. "Mr. Genuinely Nice wouldn't be the better choice because he doesn't leave my head spinning and my heart aching for a call or a second encounter." She laughed humorlessly before looking up at Illias, shaking her head again. "He might be the more logical choice, you're right. He's the safe option. But were you not the one who said you have to take risks? Even if you were trying to sleep with me, you even said that what you told me was still what you meant. Here I am, taking a risk just like you suggested." She let go of his hand reluctantly before taking another step closer to him, going on her tiptoes to whisper, "Don't you want to try and take a risk yourself?"

Illias thought he had been rather clear - in his way, at least. He'd admitted his intentions with her upon their first encounter, intentions which he still possessed but seemed like a bad idea to follow up on too much. Usually, that admission played out one of two ways: the girl agreed to the proposition or turned him away. He was also intentionally deterring her from him, something quite rare for a man who was normally quite fond of himself. Perhaps it was his mood, this darkness brought on by Nessarose Grove's old words. Perhaps on another day, in another mood, he could have been the same kind of man he was at the party in which they met. But today was what it was, and he thought he'd been clear - which made it strange when she took his hand. With no choice but to look at her, Illias did. He let her keep his hand for the moment, their fingers intertwined in a sort of familiarity he wasn't sure they had. She spoke, feeding his ego and making bad decisions as he was always so fond of women doing. But it didn't feel or sound quite the same as other women. She had that power they didn't have, the one he couldn't quite describe or grasp. He could break the fragile little bubble that was her optimism and hope, as he had with many others, but he didn't think he wanted to. He didn't know what she'd be without it. Aurora's face was close as she finished speaking with whispered words. Perhaps she had hope that he was a better man than he was. Instead of responding, he closed that small distance between them and kissed her. He had one hand on the back of her head and the other on her waist, pulling them together. It seemed the best chance for this they'd have today, and perhaps it was his way of thinking about her question. She tasted and felt better than he remembered, and that helped push away some of his darker thoughts. He turned so that Aurora was now between himself and the railing, then lifted her on top of it with little effort. That's when he broke the kiss, but didn't bring back the distance. The railing he'd set Aurora on was about at the level of his stomach, so setting her up there made her slightly taller. Illias stayed very close to her, with his hands on either side of her waist. He was a barrier - the good or bad kind? - between Aurora and the ground below and behind him. Behind her, there was no barrier. The flat cement of the station extended out perhaps a dozen feet below, with only empty air between. "I don't make promises I'm not sure I can keep," he began, eyes catching hers again. "I've told you something I wanted from you, and still want, if you take a risk on me." How big of a role did sex play in his actions and thoughts right now? It was hard to say. "So what do you want from me if I take a risk on you?" WC: 527 Tag: Aurora Swiftgold

There was something about Illias that made Aurora's heart rate spike as he spoke to her, that made her ears long for the sound of his laughter, and that made her lips crave his against hers. It was almost as if he had cast a spell on her and left her to try and break free of it on her own. She could tell that he didn't want her to stand around with him, begging him to want her and to try to be with her. But she couldn't stop herself from trying to take a chance on him. She saw something in him, even though she wasn't quite certain what exactly that was, that led her to believe that he was more than what he gave himself credit for. He wouldn't be the first man she had met that thought less of himself because of some reason or another. Whether or not that was the case didn't matter to her; she wanted to see the good in him, and that's what she had chosen to see. She chose to see the Illias Delos that she had met at the party, not the one who stood in front of her telling her to go be with Mr. Genuinely Nice. That wasn't the same Illias who had plagued her mind since the evening of their first encounter. Or perhaps it was, but that was something Aurora refused to think about.
The kiss that he planted on her lips was a surprise, but the brunette welcomed it all the same. She kissed him back, her hands gripping onto his shirt as she moved her body against his in response to his pull. Everything about him made her stomach flip, and the kiss had her head reeling the same way that their kiss the first night they met had. It was intoxicating, so intoxicating that she didn't even think about how he moved her again the the railing and then lifted her onto it. She felt him break the kiss and she looked at him, breathless and her hands still holding onto him like if she let go, he would disappear. She had expected their distance to return, but was pleasantly surprised when he maintained their closeness.
The silence between them was deafening, and all Aurora could hear was the sound of her heart beating against her rib cage as she looked at him. She wanted to read him again, but chose not to and instead listened to his words. She thought about his question, staying silent as she pondered about it. What did she want from Illias Delos? She knew that, one day, she wanted a happy ending, regardless of if that was with him or someone else. What she wanted with him was the opportunity to spend more time together and to get to know each other. She wanted to get to know who he was and everything about him. She wanted him to stay up at night thinking about her and wondering what she was doing and if she was thinking about him. But how could she ever put those feelings into terms that he would accept?
She cleared her throat before moving her hands so that she could wrap her arms around his neck as she looked into his eyes. "All I want from you, Illias Delos, is for you to go into this with an open heart," she said softly before reaching one of her hands so that her fingertips could lightly caress the side of his face. "I want you to be willing to consider things you might not under any other circumstances." She gave him a small smile before chuckling softly as she shrugged. "It might not work out in the end, but I want us both to have left it knowing that we gave each other the best shot we could. That's what I want." She leaned in and pressed a feather light kiss to his lips before whispering, "Can we agree on that?"

Illias felt Aurora respond to the kiss, seeming to let herself fall into it as he did for those brief moments. After what she'd said, he wasn't exactly expecting her to reject it, but he hadn't been sure to expect such a full response. Perhaps she took his kiss as a yes to her question, as it could be interpreted, but it was neither a yes nor a no. It was an "I want you," which isn't nearly the same thing. He'd said as much already - although not in the most romantic of terms - and was showing it now. She was showing it right back to him, and that fueled his own want, pulling her closer to him. Whenever possible, Illias had learned to take advantage of his surroundings. It had been an important skill as a Gamemaker, understanding the potential uses for different areas and making sure the right things were available. In his normal life, that skill had it's uses as well. Here, he had the railing. He had no idea if Aurora was scared of heights or not, and assuming she wasn't terrified to death of them, putting her on top of the railing added a thrilling risk. He'd never let her fall, of course, but the prospect was there - she wasn't entirely safe. It was fitting, as wanting him beyond a bedmate was not a safe decision. It charged the silence between them before he spoke, seemed to charge everything they said. Illias listened intently to Aurora's response, honestly curious as to what she could want from him, what she might expect to get. She seemed to have no trouble with the intimacy of their closeness, running her fingertips along his skin and keeping her eyes on his. It wasn't for fear of that she hadn't slept with him that first that - that much seemed clear. He in turn kept his attention on her, hands on her waist in gentle support. As he took in her words, though, the demands seemed surprisingly light. Her list of terms was short: an open heart and a willingness to consider new things. There was no request that he focused his attention on her and only her. There was no request for romantic gestures or attaching labels to their relationship. There was no desire for him to change his current ways, and she must have an idea of what those were. They didn't know each other well yet, but Aurora wasn't stupid, even if she was an optimist. Did the woman in front of him know how little she was asking? Did he dare point it out? Illias could go into this open-minded. He'd always thought he had a rather open mind. He usually did keep his heart a bit closed off - it was a casualty of his lifestyle - but perhaps he could give it a chance to feel what it would feel. He wasn't promising to actually feel a specific thing, only to let himself feel. He could do that, right? Although her questions had caught him off guard, Illias didn't take long to respond. "I can agree to that, as long as you can too." There was a high probability that he would disappoint and hurt her, but if she understood the terms as well, he couldn't be entirely to blame for that. Illias moved a hand to her face, brushing back a piece of her hair. His mood had changed entirely, those thoughts brought on by the lonely victor pushed away. Aurora was to blame for that. He raised his eyebrows a bit. "So, do we start with my request or yours?" WC: 605 Tag: Aurora Swiftgold

As Illias agreed to Aurora's proposition, the brunette couldn't help but wonder why he was so quick to accept her terms now. He hadn't been willing to call in the past and he had wanted her. Why would he be so willing to accept her terms of going into it with an open heart and being willing to try new things? She couldn't help but believe that a part of it was due to the fact that she was making a promise to give him what he was wanting from her since the first night they had met. She hadn't put a timeline on when she would be willing to sleep with him - only that she would be willing to. As long as he could accept that, then Aurora was more than happy to hold up her end of the bargain.
It wasn't as if she didn't want him in that way. She did, and she had since she met him. But one-night stands weren't conducive to finding a happy ending, and that was her goal. She wanted the ending that her parents had, and she knew that she would have to sacrifice what most others in the Capitol did in order to receive that. It was why she hadn't slept with Illias that first night. Her potential chance at a happy ending was more important to her than any spur of the moment encounter would be. She had wanted a phone call from him, for him to take her out on a proper date. However, this encounter seemed more fitting for the two of them. Sure, she had hoped initially that their second meeting would be under more romantic terms, whether that was a dinner at one of the Capitol's finest restaurants or simply walking through the streets hand in hand. But a confrontation in a train station was definitely something that was beyond Aurora's wildest imagination.
Even though the meeting wasn't anything like the brunette had imagined or wanted, it was going to end the way that she would have wanted a date with Illias to end; they were agreeing to go into it and give one another their best shots. That was all Aurora could hope for, especially now that she knew her first assumption about Illias wasn't too far off. But, even though he seemed to not be able to see it, she couldn't help but see more to him. She didn't doubt that being with him would be a lot to manage; she did, however, believe that if she was able to manage it that it would be worth it. That was all that mattered to her: that they would be worth whatever work she had to put in, that he would be worth putting her heart on the line for.
She smirked at his question before pursing her lips in faux thought before chuckling softly. "We'll start with mine," she said softly as she looked into his eyes. "While I'm sure you're a man of your word, I still need to be pursued, Illias Delos." She pressed a kiss to his cheek before motioning to the ground next to him, indicating that she wanted to be let off of the railing. "I still want the dinner, the walk home, and the anticipation that the first time with someone new brings." She couldn't help the sheepish smile that came to her lips as she shrugged her shoulders. "Call me old-fashioned, but that's what I grew up believing in and it's what I want." She looked at him before arching her brow. "Do you think you can do that? Do you think you can do the dinner and the anticipation of not knowing which time will be the time?"

Of course when Illias asked the question, he knew the answer. He had to hope though, right? Maybe fighting turned her on, and he knew this train station well enough from planning his arena that they didn't even have to get all the way to anyone's home to get started. But no - he knew she still wanted to be wooed. He knew how to woo, but his wooing always came with short term goals. He could even still think of it like that if he wanted to. Really, he wasn't promising Aurora much. He was promising to try this out. If he wooed with only slightly longer goals and they became long term goals, well, it was because he wanted the goal length to change. Still, Illias gave an exaggerated sigh in response anyway. He stepped back at her indication, helping ease her back on to solid ground. Then he took another step back so that there was space between them again - a normal friendly space instead of a deeply intimate non-space. As he listened to what she wanted, he figured it would be no problem to give her the first half. He'd taken girls out to dinner before, mainly the ones he'd slept with multiple times, but the nights did always end the same way. He had never had a problem with paying for a meal and spending a pleasant evening in public with a girl who could hold her own in a conversation. But there had always been that knowledge for both of them, underneath the surface, of how the night would end. It surely had an impact on the conversation itself. Things they said, little touches, all of that could be foreplay that would pay off in the end. But in the same situation with Aurora, she could simply kiss him goodnight and leave from the restaurant, leaving him unsatisfied. That was hard for Illias to come to terms with. True, she hadn't agreed on when she would fulfill what he wanted, and he regretted not making that term as well. He liked her, wanted to be around her, and was willing to give this chance at something deeper a shot. But it could pan out as nothing more than wasted effort in the end, if that initial spark died out quickly when they actually had normal interactions. But then he figured that if he had agreed to this much, gotten himself this far, he might as well go all in. Call it the thrill of experimentation. Illias gave her his classic half-smile. ”Alright,” he agreed. ”I can be a gentleman.” He extended Aurora his elbow, playing up the role he’d just given himself. "I do know a pretty great place over on Delamar and Ryker if you’re hungry. I know I am.” He began to walk, and after a few paces, leaned close to whisper in her ear. "I won’t wait forever though.” When he pulled back, his face was still light and fun, but he had meant it. If she dragged this anticipation out for months and months, he wasn’t sure that even being head over heels in love with her would make him stick around. He’d know he was in a losing battle by then, and he was never one to fight for the losing side. He wouldn't force her. But he could give her some time, because who knows? Maybe anticipation was more exciting than he could imagine, and maybe it would be worth it for Aurora. WC: 589 Tag: Aurora SwiftgoldNotes: Potential end of thread unless you don't want it to be?
