Elias was born to a rebel family in District 7; a mother, a father, and 7 siblings. They were a proud family and his parents instilled in their children the importance of standing up for what they believed in. They were trained from a young age and forced to believe in the cause. But Eli felt lost in it, as if he were lost in the middle of a vast ocean. The waves always crashing over his head and pushing him deeper into the water until he couldn't tell the difference between up and down. He was stubborn and always did what he wanted, never really keeping a low profile and always getting in trouble. Like the rest of his siblings, he was good at fighting. There was no way he couldn't be, being trained from the day he was born to become a soldier in the oncoming war. Fighting was the only thing he was able to do for his parents, but he always used his skills for the wrong things. Eli was a trouble maker and looked for fights. He acted out against his parents, always doing the opposite of what they wanted. 

By the time he was 10, Eli had been strapped to the pole in the middle of the Square 5 times for stealing and fighting. It wasn't until he was 12, two years before the war, that he killed for the first time. It was an accident. No. No it wasn't an accident. Elias knew exactly what he was doing when he continued to pummel the life out of the boy. He'd gotten away with it though. Covered all the evidence, covered his tracks, and he got away with murder.

A couple of months later, he ran away from home. Not too long after, he found a job. Or, the job found him. They called him The Eye. The Eye received contracts, then he gave him to people like Elias, and Elias completed them. By the time the war started when he was 13, he'd completed 8 contracts. It was easy money considering so many people had enemies and they all wanted each other dead. 

Then the war began and the silent part of the work slowed, but there was a different kind of work. The Eye contracted him and others into groups to fight for the highest bidders. Elias was tasked with The Capitolites, something that would make his parents turn in their graves, if they were dead. Elias didn't know, he hadn't been in contact with his family for years. 

10 years of war, numerous battles, and too many kills to count. Elias was a killing machine, but towards the end, he did something he thought he'd never do. During the last battle, he saved some of the important families being held hostage. He didn't know who they were, how much money they had, nothing. All he knew was that he heard a small child screaming inside a building. He ran in without a second thought and rescued the child and their family. He killed many rebels in the process and stopped one of their major operations. Elias didn't realize what he'd done until everything was over and they cheered for him. The war hero.

After the war, he was given the opportunity to live in The Capitol. But he knew it wasn't for him, he declined, saying he wasn't built for life in The Capitol, but he would take a home in one of the Districts. The Capitol sent him to District 1 with more money that he could ever hope to spend in his life time.
