"ELIAS!" Lia yelled from inside. They were closing up and there was one particular drunk that wouldn't leave. She'd tried to get the man to leave for 10 minutes now and he just wouldn't budge. His eyes were glazed over and she really had no idea how he was still awake. She'd finished up inside and had allowed him to sit by the bar but now that she was done she just wanted to close up and chug an entire bottle without having to care about the place. She brushed away a strand of hair that had gotten lose from the ponytail in frustration and approached the man herself, grabbing his arm. If she'd been fully sober she would've known not to do that but considering that she'd been drinking a little she acted first and thought later. The man, who'd been on the verge of passing out reacted faster than she could have ever anticipated. He flung his arm back so hard that she fell to the floor, breaking the glass that she'd been holding with the hand that she used to take the fall. Looking up, she was furious. There was blood dripping from the palm of her hand but she couldn't really care less. Instead she used the broken, jagged bottle and pointed it at the man as she stood up. "Get out. Now. Trust me, I'm not afraid to use this." Her voice was harsh and angry and maybe it was the look in her eyes, but the man finally stood up and began to zig zag his way to the front door. She followed after him and locked the door, before leaning her back onto the door with an exhausted sigh. With a shake of her head she made her way to the bar, jumped up on the desk and grabbed a bottle of whiskey. There were paper towels next to her, so she used that and covered her hand with it. It didn't really help but at least it gave her the sense that she'd done something right. Lia looked up when the backdoor opened. "Too little, too late", she said and took a sip from the bottle without looking at Elias. He was the one who was supposed to take care of drunk people, not her.

Elias was in the back alley removing their shipments from the truck. For about a year now, he'd been doing this. This mundane job of bartending, kicking people out, and stocking shelves. He didn't mind. He sort of liked the mundane. Being a hailed as a hero for something he never intended to do wasn't something he liked to think about. He only wanted to save the child. But it had gotten away from him. Everything had. But it was all over now. Now, he could relax and live a normal life. He was in the back of the truck when he heard Lia yell his name. He ran quickly, but his foot caught on a rope and tripped him, causing him to knock over boxes. His hands worked furiously to get his foot free, then one by on, in frantic movements, he moved the boxes out of his way. Eli jumped off the truck and ran for the backdoor. When he opened it, he found Lia on top of the counter. Eli ran to her, seeing the blood on her hands, then looked around. "Lia, what the hell happened?" He asked, not seeing anyone but the two of them. Working in a bar wasn't the safest job with all the drunks around, but that's why Eli was hired. He was supposed to get rid of the drunks that tried to cause trouble and help Lia, but he wasn't here. Instead he was stumbling around in that F*ucking truck like an idiot. He was pissed at himself for not being here. "Are you okay?" Eli pulled her hand roughly towards him so he could take a look at it. He didn't mean to pull her hand so hard, but he was angry. Not at her, at himself. WC: 303 TAG: Jezelia Lennox

Jezelia's brow raised to his question. It was somewhat amusing to hear him sound a tiny bit mad. She merely shrugged and drank some more from the bottle, her legs swinging from the desk. "Drunk asshole. Tried to kick him out, he pushed me. I fell, broke a glass. Then kicked him out", she told him shortly and poured some of her drink in a glass. It was so much easier to drink more when it was in a glass. Before she could drink more he took her hand. She slapped his hand away. "I'm fine, just a scratch." It happened from time to time that she'd feel incredibly lazy all of a sudden, and now was one of those moments. She laid down on the desk and pulled her legs up, then put a straw in her glass. Now she could lay down and drink, what a beautiful world it was. She laughed a little to herself then looked to her side. "You know, I shouldn't have to do your job for you", Lia said, her brows raised. Then she returned her attention to her drink, who consisted of liquor and juice. The slight buzz was as welcome as always. Somehow it was her only real friend. She could always count on alcohol. WC: 214 Tags: Elias R. Jagger

Eli's brows raised, "you did all that huh?" He shook his head. Lia was already working at the bar by the time he was hired. At first he thought he'd have his hands full with babysitting a woman. But she proved to be tougher than she looked. Of course, his brute strength always got the drunks out. But Lia could stand up for herself. She reminded him of his mother, he didn't like that too much. His mother was opinionated and headstrong, it was no wonder they butted heads so much. He crossed his arms when she slapped his hands away, and watched her. Eli sighed, shaking his head. A bartender who drinks on the job, really, who would have thought? He took the drink from her and set it on the bar far from her reach. Then forcefully took her bleeding hand. "Stop talking," he said and examined her hand, "there's pieces of broken glass. Don't move." Eli took out the blade from his pocket and carefully dug into her skin just deep enough to slide the pieces of glass out. "Then don't do my job, otherwise you'll get something worse than a few cuts and glass in your hand," he wiped the blade on his jeans and tucked it back into his pocket, then took out a piece of cloth. He wasn't the softest or most gentle person. His hands were covered in callouses and he always underestimated his strength. He'd been called so many things, like monster. But one thing he prided himself in that didn't involve hurting others, was his skill in patching people up. "This is gonna sting," he spilled some of the alcohol onto her hand, then covered it up with the cloth, tying it at the ends. He held her hand as gently as he could then looked at her and sighed again. She was drunk and in no shape to be going home alone. "Come on, I'll walk you home." Eli didn't wait for her permission before picking her up from the counter. WC: 330 TAG: Jezelia Lennox

She laughed dryly. "Why do you sound surprised? It's not like I haven't done it before." She shook her head to herself and continued to drink. There was a peace to it that she hadn't known before. A lifetime ago she drank to get have fun and let loose, now she drank to relax and forget. What else could she do anyways. It wasn't like she had anything else than her job, her alcohol and her small but cozy apartment. It was no surprise to her when Elias took her drink. He'd done it a couple of times before. Sure, he had a stick up his ass but he was easy to talk to. Good thing was that she was prepared and took out a flask from her jacket pocket, keeping it her hand that dangled down the other side of the bar. She decided to listen to him when he took out the knife and started yanking out shards of glass from her palm. Wincing a little, she drank some more from her flask, spilling half of it on her neck. That was why she needed a straw to drink when lying down. "Boohoo. I'm shaking with fear", she replied. She wasn't reckless with her life, but getting in a fight or two didn't exactly scare her. Lia gritted her teeth when the alcohol stung on the freshly opened wound. She could have done it all herself if he hadn't been so keen on taking care of it immediately. Had she been sober she would've refused his help but now she just didn't care. Lia blinked when he picked her up from the counter and put her back down on the floor. She'd been too slow to react and now she just couldn't help but laugh. "Oh f*ck off. I'm staying here and I'm going to drink this" she raised the flask, "and that" pointing at the drink, "and there's nothing you can do to stop me." She shook her head and walked over to a booth and sat down on the couch, resting her feet on the table. WC: 350 Tags: Elias R. Jagger

"Sure, but you've also never gotten hurt before. What if the guy didn't want to leave? What if it was more than one guy?" the possibilities of the things that could have happened and gone wrong was in his mind. He was a guy and he knew how guys acted. What's more, he himself was one of the worst kinds of men. So he knew how bad things could get. He pushed away the memories before they could get a chance to get out the door. Years of working as a mercenary was still with him, none of that would ever leave him. Lia's hand might have blood now, but Elias was drenched in it. And he could never wash himself clean. Ever. He wasn't surprised when she pulled out a flask, but he did try to not laugh. But he couldn't hide the smirk that appeared on his face. She was the most ridiculous person he'd ever met. But she was also the most infuriating, next to his family. He followed her to the couch and crossed his arms. "Why can't you just do what you're told for once?" he asked. He was irritated by her, she was just so damn stubborn. Then he realized what he was doing. He was acting like his father. In fact, he had said the same thing to Lia just now that his own father asked him all those years ago. He let out a breath, "Fine. Drink your alcohol." He gave up, she was just as stubborn as him when he was younger. There would be no talking her out of anything. "Are you sleeping here tonight? Because I'd like to go home." Home. It was the first time he could actually say that. As a mercenary, he never had a home. They slept on cots, hay, whatever was lying around. Sometimes nothing, just the ground beneath their feet. Home was something he never thought he wanted until he got it. WC: 333 TAG: Jezelia Lennox

Lia couldn't help but scoff. "There are other ways to get hurt", she said, growing serious for a moment. "There's nothing men can do to me that will hurt me more than I've been hurt", she continued before she laughed a little. "But thank you, for the inspiring and thoughtful lecture." Lia shook her head in amusement and ignored him for the next few minutes when he helped her with her hand. She was finally resting on the couch, taking yet another gulp from her flask when she looked at Elias sheepishly. "Why can't you just get that stick out of your ass for once?" Lia replied, her brows raised. He really had no business telling her what to do, despite the fact that it was somewhat amusing. No one had told her what to do in over three years now, not since... She frowned a little and shook her head to herself. She didn't need to think about them now, not when they were always on her mind. "Nope. I'm going home later, I never sleep here." Lia answered. She didn't know when later would be though. Maybe it was in an hour, maybe it wasn't. But that was not something she would think about now. Now she had her flask and that would do it. Eli almost laughed out loud. He recalled saying the same exact thing to his father before he ran away from home forever. Lia and he are just alike. He wasn't her father or brother or anything that said he was responsible for her. But he felt a sense of duty to her. Maybe it was just because it was his job to make sure she was safe. Not directly, but more or less. He didn't get paid extra for being the bouncer, but at least the owner let him come and go as he pleased. He didn't have to serve the bar except when it was busy. Even then, Lia always had it handled. He only helped. He didn't know much about making drinks, he only knew about drinking them. So he only ever served plain ones, like straight vodka or rum or whiskey. He didn't have the flair for making mixed drinks. The only reason he got the job was because of the way he looked and his strength. Men weren't the only ones who came to bars, women came too. Many of them came for him. He ignored her, knowing from experience that if he even tried to defend himself, she'd just retaliate. It was how he found it so easy to run away from home. They pushed and pushed and pushed until he couldn't take it anymore. Eli sighed, looking around. He scratched the back of his head, his shirt lifting only just slightly, the cool air of the bar skimming against bare flesh. "Good, but I can't leave you here, Henry said I'm supposed to be the first one in, last one out," he crossed his arms again. "Come on, I'm sure your place is better than here. Nice bed, good food. You really can't want to stay in this..." he looked around. He didn't want to say 'dump' because it wasn't exactly that. But the bar was on the poorer side of the district, though the District was rather well off compared to the other Districts farther away from The Capitol. Besides, he'd seen worse place than this. "Bar." He settled for the most generic word he could think of. Elias was getting tired and hungry. Not that he didn't like the food they served at the bar, but he wanted a meal that he prepared and cooked himself. And he wanted to sleep in his comfortable bed. WC: 407 TAG: Jezelia Lennox

They'd worked together for six months now, pretty much everyday and Lia could count the times he'd almost laughed on one hand. Because he never actually laughed, it was always an 'almost laugh'. She couldn't help but smile a little with the alcohol's help. They sure butted heads most of the time but it was welcomed, making her feel somewhat normal. They never really talked about anything other than usual stuff like work and... Well, mostly work and mundane stuff but that was also the only conversations she ever held. No one knew anything about her. She doubted anyone knew her real age, her real name or when she came from and she wanted to keep it that way for as long as possible. Lia looked back at him, sticking out her chin, completely ignoring the skin that showed and the refined muscles on his stomach. If anything it made her slightly roll her eyes, wondering if he did it intentionally. "I said later, not now. Besides, I like it here. It's so full of life all the time and then now it's just quiet. Peaceful even." She smiled to herself and looked out at the now empty space, suddenly realizing what was missing. She always put music on and this time she hadn't. She jumped up and made her way to the music panel, putting on a list that was incredibly jumpy. A big smile showed on her face before she made her way back to the bar where she began to mix a couple of drinks before putting them on a tray. Returning back to the booth, she saw that Elias was somewhat grumpy. It was pretty obvious that he wanted to go home but for all she knew, he could go home at that very moment. "C'mon. You know that you can go home. I know that Henry won't mind if I'm the last one out, he trusts me." Lia didn't say anything after that, instead she grabbed the most colorful drink and began to sip on it. WC: 341 Tags:Elias R. Jagger

He watched her put on the music and make drinks. He followed her back to the booth, "it's not about trusting you. It's about whoever's out there. Someone could take you and I'm not going to take that chance. Besides, Henry would fire me." It was late, even for him. And leaving her here to walk home alone at an even later time wasn't a good idea. He knew the dangers that lurked in the shadows. The war may be over, but there were plenty of desperate people, even in District 1. Eli walked over to the music panel and turned it off, then picked her up and carried her fireman style over one shoulder. She was light and easy to carry, though not the most accommodating. "Watch your head," he said as he walked out the door with her. He turned and locked the door, only realizing that the drinks were still on the counter, but it didn't matter. He could clean it up tomorrow when he went in to work. Eli didn't let her down because he knew that she'd just try to fight him or run away, so instead he carried her down the street. He smiled and waved at the very limited number of people in the streets during this time of night. "She's just drunk," he'd tell them. "Where do you live?" He asked once they reached the end of the street. The poor side of the district was barely lit and most people were home and asleep. He'd carry her all the way home if it meant she'd get there safely. WC: 271 TAG: Jezelia Lennox

Jezelia rolled her eyes and ignored his heroic statements. She couldn't care less. She'd been alone since she was 15, working and going home, all by herself and if he wanted to think that it was going to be any different this night then he was very wrong. Another eyeroll followed before she chugged down the entire glass. Just as she was focusing on another drink, having chugged down half of the contents, she felt herself getting lifted up in the air. "You piece of shit. Put me down", she said firmly, yet somehow she knew he wouldn't do it. She knew she couldn't get off of him unless he decided to put her down but that didn't mean she'd make it enjoyable for him, so she began to pound on his back with her fist. "You know, I could scream and they'd come and help me", she said quietly with a smirk playing on her lips. She squirmed a little when he asked where she lived until she got an opening to knee him in the chest. He dropped her at that. She had to take a step back to regain her balance, now that things began to spin. Wiping her hands at the her hips, she looked at him as she recovered from her bony knee. "Now was that so hard?" Lia asked without dropping her gaze. With her hands at each side of her hips, she glared at him for a moment or two before taking out a pack of cigarettes from her jacket. She took a step back, holding her hand out in front of her incase he decided that smoking was bad too. She lit the cigarette, took a long deep breath and the shifted back her focus on him. "Let me tell you something Elias. I appreciate your work at the bar. You're good at your job. But it ends when we close. I don't need you to take me home or tell me when I've had enough to drink. If someone is out there, I take care of it myself. Do we understand each other?" She wasn't mad or anything, she sounded just normal but he clearly didn't understand his boundaries and she felt like she needed to make it clear. She didn't need him or anyone else. Her life consisted of herself and that was it. That was her new reality. Lia shrugged a little, then took another drag from the cigarette before looking back at Elias. "Unless you're asking where I live because you want to sleep with me, then we can definitely have that discussion. Though it would end with me saying I'm not interested because I'm revirginizing myself. I hope you can understand that", she nodded a little, wondering what kind of banter he'd throw once he regained his ability to breathe again. WC: 476 Tags: Elias R. Jagger

He was looking down both sides of the street to figure out the best way to go where there was more light in order to avoid trouble when she wiggled only slightly free and kneed him in the sternum. "Dammit Lia!" he cursed, dropping her, though she didn't completely fall on the ground. Eli rubbed the middle of his chest where her knee hit him. It hurt more than he expected coming from her, but she was stronger than he gave her credit for. Still, not strong enough to fend off an attacker. Eli sighed and gave her another arms-crossed-scowl look that he figured probably made him look like his father, a giant muscular and hefty brute of a man. He wasn't as tall as his father, at least from what memory he had of him, but he liked to think he could look just as terrifying. "No, we don't," he said flatly. "I don't care what you think you can do, I'm not going to leave you out here. Some woman was just raped two days ago in this part of the district, or have you forgotten?" The incident had reached the entire district, but it wasn't at all uncommon for the poorer side of it. The only reason that it had been a big news to everyone was because she was a wealthy woman who had somehow ended up on the wrong side of town. There had also been murders, most likely due to muggings gone wrong. Although District 1 was better off than many other districts, there were still greedy and desperate people. Not to mention orphaned children who really had nowhere to go. Every place had a ghetto, even the richer ones. And Eli didn't want to think about the things he'd seen during his time as a mercenary. One particular event stuck inside his mind, but he liked to keep that memory sealed up in a vault so deep inside his mind that one could assume it doesn't actually exist, except when it creeps up in his nightmares. He wanted to take the cigarette from her hand and stomp on it, but he had no right to do that. Though nothing had ever stopped him from crossing lines before. Instead he said, "you know that stuff will kill you." He ignored her first statement, knowing full well that anything that happened between them now when she was drunk would be a huge mistake. She'd probably end up ignoring him afterwards and treating it like a business arrangement. He didn't have it in him to have his heart broken, not by her. Her second statement made her laugh. Really laugh. The kind of laugh that's unexpected and difficult to stop, the kind of laugh that comes from the stomach. "Are you serious?" he asked finally able to take a breath before laughing again. "Revirginize? Sweetheart, I don't think it works like that." Eli wiped a tear from the corner of his eye and tried to stop laughing. WC: 502 TAG: Jezelia Lennox

Lia wasn't one to flare up and be serious about it but when his stubbornness about getting her home didn't fade she found herself glaring at him, meaning it this time. It always showed when she was truly angry and it showed incredibly well in her eyes. She did her best to ignore him but took in what he said. When he started laughing her angry expression changed into confusion. She'd never heard him laugh and not that it meant anything, she somehow found his laugh enjoyable. But then he called her sweetheart. Throwing the last of the cigarette down, she looked back at him, angrier than before. "Listen. When we work, we know each other. We're colleagues. I talk to you, ask you for help, maybe I'll joke and laugh. But when my shift ends, all of that ends too. You don't know me that well but this is how it works. Say I see you outside when I'm not working, then you'll probably get a 'hello' and that's it." Jezelia knew she was being hard but this was how things were. How they'd been for three years and she didn't plan on changing that. Everyone else had understood that without her having to explain it but he seemed to be way thicker in the head than all the others. Sighing but still with her eyes locked on his, she continued. "Now if you would please leave me alone, I'd really appreciate that." Lia turned around and began to walk away from him, fuming with anger. She didn't even know why but she hated it when someone tried to disrupt her normal life. It was her routines that kept her alive, that kept her sane and not insane with grief. So whatever his game was, she didn't want anything to do with it. So Lia kept walking, creating more and more distance between them. WC: 315 Tags: Elias R. Jagger

Eli seemed to have angered her more, which wasn't intentional, but he could see he wasn't going to get anywhere with her. They were too similar in that aspect, but he knew from experience that the right thing to do was not argue. He wondered if his parents stopped arguing with him, if things would be different. If he would never have run away. Eli only shrugged. "Fine." He let her walk away, counted to five, and then began walking. He matched her pace, keeping the same five second distance between them. Eli wasn't going to give in, though he'd give her what she wanted. Partially, at least. He probably couldn't follow her all night, but he could try. At least to make sure she got to where she needed to go. It wasn't just that he felt a sense of responsibility, but also because he felt a sense of guilt. He'd let his guard down before, he'd allowed others to do as they wished, and it had ended badly for them. He wasn't going to make that same mistake. Eli might have been a mercenary, he might have killed more people than he could count, but ever since that night... Eli was lost in thought and didn't see a figure approaching Lia from the front. He snapped out of it in time and ran up, towards them. The figure wore a hood and stopped beside her, as if about to speak, but then turned to him. "Eli!" a small voice spoke from beneath the hood before running towards him. WC: 261 TAG: Jezelia Lennox

Lia kept walking, lighting yet another cigarette. Since there was no alcohol for her, she found solace in nicotine. She couldn't possibly understand what Elias' deal was. Sure, she understood that some people were protective, her parents had been, but he was not her brother or her cousin or her friend. She didn't have friends. She didn't want friends. And she sure as hell didn't have any parents anymore. She kept enough attention to where she was going and everyone around to notice someone approaching her. Her hand immediately reached for her pocket, grabbing the small pocket knife that she always carried around. She kept walking though and when the figure stopped, she raised her brows, wondering what the hell they wanted from her. But that wasn't what really annoyed her. What did annoy her were the running steps that approached and the name that the unknown person said. Jezelia turned around. "WILL YOU STOP FOLLOWING ME FOR GOD'S SAKE?!" she glared at him, anger expressed all over her face. She didn't care that his intentions were good. She didn't want good or need good because good in her life had been gone for three years now. WC: 199 Tags: Elias R. Jagger

Eli walked quickly towards the figure, "Emilia." He pulled the hood off her and took her under the lamp light. Lia yelled at him, catching him by surprise. He sighed and shook his head. "Fine, go." He couldn't stop the anger in his voice. She was stubborn and he wouldn't have let her out of his sight, but this changed it. He turned to the girl in front of him, dressed in a hood and black pants like a street thug. He leaned down, his hands grabbing her by the shoulders. "What are you doing here? I told you not to come here." The panic in his voice was evident. He took a breath and tried to calm down, but between Lia giving him a hard time and Emilia being here, it was difficult. How many times had he told her to stay inside? To not leave the house? He knew he should have just gone home. Emilia looked down at her shoes, then up at Eli. "You didn't come home when you were supposed to. I gave it 30 minutes, I did! I was worried something was wrong, I thought they--" "Enough," he said harshly. Then took another breath to calm down, "I was just making sure L-- my friend got home safe." Emilia looked at Lia again and then at Eli, her brows raising before scrunching together. Her eight year old face made an expression he'd never seen before, something like suspicion. WC: 245 TAG: Jezelia Lennox

Lia stopped in her tracks, trying to calm herself down with deep breaths. Realizing that it was a kid in front of her, she put out the cigarette and listened to the conversation even though Elias had finally decided to let her be. She couldn't help but laugh at the conversation. She crunched down and looked at the little girl. "So he tells you what to do as well?" She smiled at the little girl. Somehow, her entire demeanor changed when seeing her. It took her a second to realize why and for a moment she felt incredibly sad. Emilia reminded her of Davina. She looked away for a brief moment, trying to compose herself before looking back at the girl. "See, I'm a little bit older than you, but he tells me what to do too", Lia smiled and looked up at Elias. " I guess we all know that you're somewhat too bossy and that the stick is a lot more stuck than I initially thought it was." Lia didn't really know why she was still there but the little girl intrigued her and made her feel like Davina might still be around after all despite the fact that she knew her sister had been dead for more than three years. She'd died, merely 12 years old. Even though there'd been an age gap of 3 years between them, Vina had been her best friend and favorite person in the whole wide world. Seeing Emilia reminded her of that, in a sad way, but it was still good to be reminded of her sister.

Eli was surprised when Lia started talking to Emilia. He thought she'd take this opportunity to run to the nearest bar now that she would be free of him. Emilia looked up at Lia and then at Eli, wondering if she should say something. Eli nodded down at her in encouragement, "it's okay." But Emilia only looked down at her shoes. Eli looked up at Lia, "she's a little wary of strangers." It wasn't an excuse, it was just a fact. And it was a good thing. Emilia knew the dangers that came with strangers. It was something that Eli never had to teach her, which was unfortunate because she had to be taught in the most horrible way possible. Emilia held his hand tighter, as if she too was thinking of the same exact thing. When Lia spoke again, Emilia raised her brows in wonderment. She couldn't believe that another person was talking to her, a grown up person. And she was talking nicely from the sound of it, though she had no idea what the other part meant. Eli shook his head, a small smile creeping up. He looked down the street. There was a bar just at corner, Lia could easily go there if she wanted. "We have to go," he said in almost a questioning tone. He wanted to get Emilia back home, but the look on Emilia's face priceless. It made him feel warm to see her face light up like that from something as small as a person talking to her. And she wasn't running away. Eli took a few steps forward past Lia and then stopped, turning back to her. "I'm sure your house is on the way, if you wanted to walk with us," he said the words before he even had a chance to realize what he was saying. WC: 312 TAG: Jezelia Lennox

Lia couldn't help but feel incredibly sad by the demeanor of Emilia. The girl was too cautious, too quiet for someone that young. She could only guess what she'd gone through but by the looks of it it probably wasn't something good. The girl seemed to ease up a little bit and even though Lia had never met her before, it made her happy to see the little one shine up the more she talked to her. It was also good to see that she didn't take much after Elias' grumpy self. "I'm Lia", she said with a smile and reached out her hand carefully, wondering if Emilia would do the same. Lia waited, knowing that she shouldn't overstep whatever boundaries that were laid out. The little girl didn't take her hand but she did reply, her voice small and careful. Lia's smile grew a little wider. "Nice to meet you Emilia." Looking up, she nodded at Elias and stood up, beginning to walk next to them. She wondered who Emilia was to him. Was it his daughter? She'd never thought, in a million years, that he was a father but it was incredible how little they knew about each other. It didn't really matter, though it made her understand why he'd been so god damn protective earlier. It showed in the way he looked at Emilia. No matter how brute and grumpy he was, he really did care about the little girl and for that, she couldn't help but feel that maybe she'd been a bit too harsh on him. Though it didn't change the fact that what she'd said earlier was still the truth. Were she to see him on a day off, she'd greet him and then keep going. "I'm heading this way." Lia stopped at a crossing, taking some steps towards the left lane. She looked at the odd couple, smiling a little. "I'll see you at work." She gave a small nod to Elias and then turned her attention to Emilia. "Bye Emilia", Lia waved at the young girl and then turned her back on them while getting a few steps closer to her own place. It had been an unusual night, despite the fact that it wasn't the first time Elias took her drink or kicked her out from bar. It was everything that surrounded the night, the memories, meeting Emilia, but most of all it was the hole inside of her. Meeting the little girl made her miss her family so much and it had been quite some time since she'd last cried. It didn't take long before her tears began to fall. No one was outside to see her cry so she just let her tears fall until she reached her door. Once she was inside with the door lock, she fell to the floor, all curled up with her knees pressed to her chest. This was all she had. Her apartment and her grief. Atleast Elias and Emilia had each other and she just hoped they knew how much of a blessing that was. To have someone.

Eli's surprise was never ending with Lia. Her entire demeanor had completely changed with Emilia's presence. He wondered if she had children, though he doubted it. She was young and was in no rush to get home. They'd known each other six months and this was the first time she actually found out something about him that no one else knew. He had to be more careful. Emilia didn't shake Lia's hand, and Eli wasn't going to force her. Emilia had her own boundaries which Eli fully respected. They had unspoken rules between them which had been set throughout the years. When Emilia said her name, Eli looked up at Lia. He wanted to pull Emilia away. He wanted to take her home, now. He looked up at the dark sky, at the people walking around even at this late hour. There weren't many, but there were always eyes. He was a little relieved and he shouldn't have been, when she decided to go her own way at the crossing. He thought about offering to walk her all the way home, but he could tell that something was different. They'd passed the bar at the corner. "Good night," he said to her while Emilia gave her a small smile from behind Eli. They stood at the corner for a few moments, watching Lia walk away, before going the opposite way. He would have to remind Emilia of the rules, again. She couldn't just go out whenever she wanted, even if it meant him not coming home. They had rules for a reason. But he wouldn't say those things now. He didn't want to ruin Emilia's experience with Lia, even if it was the last time they'd ever see each other. "What stick was she talking about?" Emilia asked after a while. Eli smiled and held her closer to him. WC: 317 TAG: Jezelia LennoxNOTES: End of post
