Skylar Centrin Erikson Reign
NICKNAMES: Skylar, Sky AGE: 17 GENDER: Female RESIDENCE: District 3 OCCUPATION: Construction SPECIAL INFO: N/A FACE CLAIM: Lindsey Morgan PLAYER ALIAS: Rebecca
Personality If Skylar has a problem, she assumes it can be solved with violence. It's always worked in the past. No one can threaten her or push her around and expect to get away with it. She has a bit of a temper, though she doesn't always just let it loose when it's raised. She's learned to control and channel it.
On the flipside, when she lets go, she really lets go. She's been living her life knowing that it might have a limited time left, and so she tries to live with no regrets. She wants to experience everything, and so has an insatiable curiosity. She doesn't like limits or closed doors.
Sklyar isn't easy to get to know, but seems decently straightforward when you do befriend her.
History Skylar was born in District 12, an orphan from her very first minutes. Her mother Essex Centrin died in childbirth, and no one knew who her father was. She was placed in an orphanage and simply called Baby Centrin for the first few months of life. Babies are easily adopted though, and she was adopted by a merchant couple. Anna and Keller Erikson took the baby girl in and gave her the name Skylar Centrin Erikson.
Skylar's new parents had always wanted children, and while Skylar was their second. She had an adopted older sister, and later came two brothers, all adopted. The Erikson kids grew up initially rather safe with a decent life. Their parents owned a clothing shop, which sold imports from the Capitol, created their own designs, and fixed clothing. She never had much interest in the shop itself, but was taught how to sew and some of the basic business anyway. What Skylar really preferred was being anywhere but home. She was a bit of a wild spirit, and if allowed, would stay out from dawn until dusk.
The war started when she was six. In the beginning, her parents tried to remain neutral. For years, they stayed within their shop, mending clothes without discrimination, and for years, it worked okay. As the war became more heated, however, the Erikson neutrality would no longer do. They were forced to stop helping the Capitol, and Keller was made to fight in the war. He died within a year.
Sklyar hated watching the way that the rebel supporters treated her mother and her family. They would come in, demanding something or other, even occasionally bringing in wounded for them to tend or watch over. None of them had any healing skill except perhaps Sklyar's older sister, who at least had the right temperament. When she was 11, Sklyar ran away from home - unable to do anything to help her family, and unable to stand it any longer.
With the help of a girl named Briana, Skylar found her way into a Capitol training camp for kids. She signed up with a new last name, Reign. There, she worked hard to become the soldier they wanted her to be, rising quickly in the ranks and earning the respect of those above her. At 13, she went into her first battle. It was a rescue mission for a Capitol family held hostage by rebels, and it was during that mission that she killed her first person. He was a little older than her, with sandy blonde hair and worn clothes. There was a knife in his hand, but he'd paused when he saw her, unsure what to do against this little girl. So she took that hesitation to do what she was trained to do and shot him once in the chest. The way he fell, the blood - she'd never forget that.
Over time, Skylar tried to make herself hardened to war. She fought and she partied with her troop, her life always seeming like one extreme or the other. Then, the war was suddenly over. The kids who had families were sent back to their homes. Skylar had signed up as an orphan - at the time, she'd told herself it was to protect her family, of whom she had no idea if they were alive or dead when the war finished. The troop knew she was from District 12, but didn't feel like her home district had the resources to contain her. Instead, they sent her to a large orphanage in District 3 that had more resources - and discipline.
