Ambrosia's scream caught in her throat. The world was burning around her, people were screaming, shots were fired, bombs exploded yet somehow it was all still. It was quiet. It was ending. Saraph was in her arms, screaming for all he was worth and she still couldn't hear him. All she saw was Eryx, lying on the ground. Dead. A pool of blood was forming underneath his body and she knew, she'd known the second before it happened that something bad would happen. Sia was so lost, so gone that she didn't notice Saraph wiggling his way out of her arms and running on his wobbly legs. "DADA! DADA!" He was trying to shake Eryx's arm, get him to move, to do anything and it was beyond the mind of a three year old to understand that his dad was gone. Gone in an instant, a bullet through his chest.
It was the sight of Saraph's hands, covered in blood that jolted Sia out of her own mind and back into the chaos that was erupting around them. She ran up to them, her arms wrapping around Saraph. Tears were flowing down her cheeks and she couldn't get herself to move. Her body was shielding her baby from any harm and she knew that she had to go but she couldn't. She couldn't leave Eryx, her husband, her best friend, the father of her child. She couldn't leave him because when she did it'd be the last time she saw him. It'd become real. He'd be gone and she couldn't have it that way.
"Ryx baby... Please. Please", she begged, sobbing while her chest burned. She'd heard that people could literally die from a heartbreak and that's what it felt like. Her chest was closing up, burning and twisting and every inch of her body was screaming. She was suffocating and nothing she could do would bring him back. "Get up." Sia begged and begged but there was no respons. It wasn't until Saraph began to scream "DADA!" again that Sia realized the full situation. Eryx was dead. Her baby was still alive and there was only one who she could protect. Sia wiped away her tears, took off his wedding ring and scooped Saraph up. Then she began to run. Away from the bullets and fires and her past life. She left Eryx, left the part of herself who could love and all the memories that she'd had with him. He was dead but she was still alive. Saraph was alive and he had to be protected. That's what Eryx would have wanted. He'd taken a bullet for them. Died for them. And it would not be in vain.
Sia was sitting on the porch swing, a folder in her hand. It had been Eryx’s and every year on this day, she’d read one of his letters. It had been a silly thing, something she’d joked about their second year as a couple. Sia had joked about them writing a letter for the other on every anniversary and for some reason it had stuck. For the tenth time, she found herself reading one of his letters, a smile on her face and her heart full of love. Not a day passed without her missing him. She missed his smile, his laugh, the way he’d look at her. She missed him but it wasn’t painful anymore. It had taken her years to get over his death and the day she had, she’d felt free. Happy even. Saraph had been there for her along the way and with everyday that went by, everything that he did, she was reminded of her Eryx.
”Mom!” Ambrosia looked up, a tear trickling down her cheek. Saraph was standing in front of her, a perplexed look on his face. ”I need help”, he said but stopped when he saw the tear on his mother’s face. Sia smiled and wiped it away. He was taller than her now, looking more and more like his father with everyday that passed. She closed the folder and stood up. ”What is it?” she asked and walked up to her son. She couldn’t help but embrace him, then kiss his forehead. ”Mooom”, he cringed and wiped at his forehead. He was smiling though. He knew what his mother did every year on this day. She’d read him the letter later, to which he would cry a little but then feel good about. Saraph sighed a little. ”It’s Lena. She’s crying again”, he told her. Sia nodded and went inside the house. Helena was awake, crying for all she was worth. Sia picked her up and began to craddle her in her arms. ”Hey you”, she cooed, her eyes gazing into her daughters. Ten years ago, she’d thought that she would never find love again. She'd thought that she'd never have more children. But she’d been wrong. Her heart was living on outside of her, in the shape of three beautiful children. Saraph, Eryx and Helena. It took her six years to let go, to let herself love again and the way there had been difficult and confusing. She’d been so angry in the beginning. With the world and herself, until the day came when she was able to let it go. She been left with no choice but to let it go, for the sake of Saraph as well as her own. For the sake of Eryx. He would have wanted her to move on. And she had. She finally had. And she was happy again, surrounded by people she loved and cared about.

Ten years had passed. Today was the anniversary of the ending of the war and the beginning of a new life. Panem had grown, back to its former glory but without the oppression and starvation. There were no games and all the children were safe. Saraph was safe.Sia was sitting on the porch swing, a folder in her hand.
