"Oh, I didn't realize how late it was. I have to get ready for work now Mr. Savage," Terra threw a few clams in the metal bucket and stuck her shovel in the sand beside it. "Stop calling me Mr. Savage, that's my dad. I'm not even old, I'm a only a year older than you," Brayden sighed, but he knew it was no use. Terra always called him Mr. Savage and treated him like he was an old man. But at least she was nice, didn't talk a lot-- except for when she got excited, and liked to help. Sometimes she sang and that was nice. But not when he was trying to concentrate. Terra shrugged and smiled, then gave him a wave and walked up the rocks towards civilization. The area wasn't too far off from town, but it was at an area that not a lot of beach goers frequented. There were too many rocks and the area he was at, no one would be able to see him from the sidewalk that stretched across the beach. The rocks rose up into a cliff, hiding this part of the beach where clams liked to gather. Brayden was once again alone. He threw the clams he had in his hands into the bucket. He'd timed everything just so because the clams were only here during a specific time of the year. Taking his soil scoop, he squat down on an untouched area of sand and began to dig again. The waves were calm right now since it was low tide, but during high tide, it would be too dangerous. During high tide, the water rose up above the rocks around him and waves crashed against the rocks, anything or anyone that was in this area would be swept off and thrown against the rocks like a rag doll. But it wasn't high tide yet. That wouldn't happen until about 3AM that night and at that moment, it was an hour before sunset. He still had plenty of time before he would have to make his way back to his lab. WC: 353 TAG: Olivia Glass

Olivia stood at the top of the cliff, relishing in the feeling of the hard winds that blew her hair back. She loved places like this and the higher the cliff, the better. She was wearing her red bathing suit, the one that they all had when working but her shift had ended an hour ago. Anyone who decided to swim after those hours, did it at their own risk. Now she had all the time in the world to do whatever she wanted and what she wanted was to feel the rush that came with jumping off a cliff. She was reckless in that sense, valuing an adrenaline rush over her own life, but who could blame her? Her father had made sure that after a while, she hated everything that had to do with survival and preparing for the worst. To her, preparing for the worst meant that she had to go through the worst, and maybe hitting her head on a rock was one of those things. She wasn't suicidal, but the rush was just addictive and she didn't have it in her to deny herself the pleasure of it.
She took a few steps forward, her toes curling against the edge of the cliff. Looking down, a grin immediately spread on her face. She could see the waves crash against the rock and it only made her more excited. She took in a deep breath, stretched out her arms and jumped.
Liv cheered as she fell down, her heart racing and prepared for impact. It came soon enough, almost knocking the air out of her but she was an avid swimmer, one of the best and knew what to do. She began to swim under water, creating distance between herself and the rock. A deep breath filled her lungs when she broke through the surface. She was grinning, big and wide. It didn't take long before she began to swim towards shore, completely oblivious to everything that was happening around her. There was only the waves, the sound of seagulls and herself. She was at peace, happy and ecstatic from the rush that was over way too soon. Next time she'd have to find an even higher cliff.
When she approached the beach and was so close to shore that she could walk in the water, she noticed a person sitting there. Her brows rose. No one was ever there. Liv shrugged it off quickly enough and began to walk up to the beach. It wasn't until she saw who it was that she stopped. Bray. "Well, well, well. If it isn't seaweed brain", she grinned and walked up to him. She gave herself the liberty of sitting down next to him without even asking. Truth be told, she wanted to shove his head into the ocean and keep it there until he was on the brink of passing out but she knew better than that. "What's it been? Two years? Three years?" she asked, knowing damn well how long it had been. He'd left her when she needed him the most. Left her to be the genius that he was. "I didn't have time to thank you before you left, but thank you Bray. For leaving me here to rot. Really, what a class act you are", Liv continued. She thought she'd gotten over it but seeing him again reminded her that she really hadn't. It hurt, that her best friend who knew everything had left her with her crazy father. She wasn't all too mad at him but she still felt the need to get it all out. He deserved to hear it after all.

He was able to dig up a few more clams, and he was sure there were more. But the sun was about to dip below the horizon and it was getting rather late. Plus he had two large bucketfuls already. How he was going to carry both, he had no idea. Sure he could do it. But he'd have to go slow. He wiped the sweat that trailed to his nose. Yeah, he should probably call it a day now. He'd had too much sun already. And he was sure he forgot to put on sunscreen. Brayden looked up when a woman's voice came up towards him. His mouth was already open but widened when he recognized her. "Olivia?" he said dropping the clam and soil scoop that he was holding. He watched her in complete shock as she sat down next to him. He blinked, forcing himself to come to terms that he was seeing his best friend again. Brayden grinned and wrapped his arms around. "Wow, you got... tall!" he smiled, but then her voice changed and it made Brayden slump his shoulders. He sat on the sand with her, his hands picking at the sand that had gotten stuck under his finger nails. "It's only been a little over a year," he mumbled quietly, his head bent low. The happiness he felt upon seeing her was quickly replaced by guilt and sadness. "I'm sorry I had to leave. I couldn't say no to them again, they needed my help," Brayden said. Yes, they had trained him and taught him a lot of things, but he also taught them a few things. Things that helped win the war, not big things. Little things. But still things that helped The Capitol. And Brayden didn't like it, but he had no other choice. It was also part of why he hadn't gone to see Olivia since he'd gotten back a few months ago. In fact, he'd actually been trying to avoid her. Brayden picked up a rock and pressed on it between his fingers. "And I'm sorry about what I said about your mom," Brayden cringed at thoughts. When her mother died, he tried to explain to her the process of death. That it was all part of nature, part of this world, and this cosmic plan that he thought could be calculated with math and numbers. He tried to tell her about the stages of grief when a loved one died. But nothing he said was right. She'd gotten mad at him and Brayden had no idea what to do to make her feel better because he'd never experienced death. Brayden had always been sheltered from the worst parts of the world, even the war. "I didn't know how to help you then. And I'm not sure how to help you now either, and I know this doesn't excuse what I did... But..." Brayden moved closer to her, and then put his arms around her so that she was stuck between his arms. Brayden held on to her, even though she was wet and he was slightly dirty and possibly sunburned. WC: 523 TAG: Olivia Glass

Olivia's brows rose when she felt his arms wrapped around her. She didn't hug him back, it was definitely too soon for that. He'd always had a way with words. After all this time and all he could say was that she'd gotten tall. She rolled her eyes, completely ignoring his apology. Of course they'd needed him. He was the smartest and brightest person to live according to her and probably to them as well. "I needed your help too", she shot back, the pain in her voice clear for him to hear. When he went on to talk about her mom, she just waved him off. "That's history", she started but cringed back when he hugged her again. This time she pushed him away, grimacing. "Geez Bray. I'm not a kid anymore and neither are you. Let's keep the hugging to a minimum", she told him and shook her head. Her hands were dug into the sand, creating patterns that helped calm her mind. It wasn't fair of her to be angry with him, she knew that. He was her best friend after all and she was happy for him, that he was so successful and wanted. Maybe deep down she was jealous that he was able to do something with his life, while she'd never even be close to achieving something like that. Liv sighed a little. "It's okay. I forgive you. And I really don't need your help just to make that clear. But it's good to have you back." A grin began to form on her face, followed by her shoulder nudging his. She didn't have it in her to be angry with him, at least not when he was back. If he'd leave again, then maybe she'd be all angry again but he was back, so what was the point in that now?

"I know, I'm sorry. I was a horrible friend." Brayden frowned when Olivia pushed him away. "Aw come on Liv, there's no such thing as being too old for hugs," he pouted at her but decided to just keep his hands to himself. His family liked to hug, everyone of them. And every time he saw his friends, well... Olivia and his family at least, he hugged them. It was a thing they did. His family took it to a whole new level by hugging everyone, even if they'd never met before. But Brayden was a little more shy than that. Plus when he was younger and he tried to hug other kids he was just meeting, they beat him up. He smiled and drew on the sand with her. He wasn't an artist by any means, but he could draw some really nice stick figures and stick cats and dogs. The cats and dogs looked the same, but if you looked closely at the ears, he always gave the cats more pointy ears and the dogs more rounded ones. Brayden's smile grew wider and he leaned in for another hug, not caring about what she'd said earlier. Liv was his best friend, always had been. He didn't care how old they got, he'd always hug her. "I'm glad you think it's good that I'm back. I'm here permanently, I'll never leave you ever again." He moved away and put the soil scoopers into the buckets, his eyes quickly glancing at the position of the sun just above the horizon. "I miss these sunsets," he said turning towards the sun and leaning against a nearby rock. He crossed his legs straight out in front of him and crossed his arms over his chest. He breathed in the evening air with the smell of salt. It didn't take long for the sun to lower beneath the horizon and soon, it winked out of sight. "What are you wearing, by the way?" he scrunched his nose and smiled. "You look funny." WC: 340 TAG: Olivia Glass

Olivia nodded. "Yeah you were", completely agreeing with him. He'd been a shitty friend and it was nice to hear that he knew it himself. She just rolled her eyes at his next comment. She did agree with him on that, but it was amusing to hear him plead with her. Thinking about it, they were definitely a weird mix. He was everything she wasn't and in ways, they were complete opposites, but they still worked very well together. When he hugged her again, she couldn't help but laugh. She did return the hug but nudged him off this time too. "That's good to hear seaweed brain. Did the Capitol finally decide that you're too big of a nerd to be of use to them?" she asked with a grin. She knew he wasn't one to get offended by what she said, considering that she didn't actually mean any of it. He knew her well enough to know that and it was comforting in a way. She'd gotten into both verbal and physical fights more times than she could count because of her snarky and somewhat nasty comments but Bray knew better. Besides, it was their thing. Liv cracked into a laugh when he asked her what she was wearing. "It's called a bathing suit, wouldn't a genius know that?" she shot back, grinning to herself. A shrug followed shortly after. "I work as a lifeguard at the beach", she explained before standing up. "Speaking of, I need to get my clothes. Get your ass up and lets go get em." She'd left her clothes at the bottom of the cliff, hidden behind a bush but her shoes on the other hand, were at the very top.

Brayden laughed, it was nice to be spending time with his best friend again. He'd practically forgotten what it was like to just be a kid again. Well, he was 18 and no longer a kid, but every time he was with Olivia, he felt younger. The neurons in his brained fired two hundred miles per second, it was something he couldn't ever stop or adjust, that part of him just was. But during the moments he was with Olivia, he could at least forget about most of the things that went through his mind. It was if she switched on the cruise control in his mind. "Yeah I know what a bathing suit is," he said. "You just look... different," Brayden smiled and followed her to get her clothes. Living in District 4, he saw most people in bathing suits. It was just a way of life for them. But Olivia was his best friend and even though he'd seen her wear bathing suits numerous times, this was the first time she'd ever looked like that in them. He was glad that it was darker now so that he wouldn't have to keep seeing her and that she wouldn't see him. Olivia looked athletic while he looked, well, pathetic. "So if I were to start drowning, would you go in and save me?" he asked. WC: 227 TAG: Olivia Glass
