Jax walked into the cafe shop, dropping down into his usual booth. It was slow in the evenings, usually, as most people wanted to go straight home after work. For Jax, though, going home meant returning to a cramped, dingy apartment for the rest of the night It was depressing as hell. The floorboards were old and creaked with every step. The paint on the walls was cracked and aged. Jax had a nice place back in the Capitol, one on the outskirts of the city that hadn’t been bombed as severely during the war. It was spacious and new and fresh, nothing like the shit places where he stayed in the Districts. The Capitol gave him the money to find a place to stay, but he couldn’t drop it all on a luxurious place - it would draw too much attention. There wouldn’t be a comparable place in the Districts, anyway. But Jax was living his life on the move, staying in the Districts far more often than in his own home in the Capitol. This was his lifestyle. Jax smiled at the familiar waitress. Evelyn. She seemed too big for the District - she was a pretty face coupled with a personality. He often wondered why such gems were stuck in shitholes like these. Even though inwardly, Jax feigned disgust, he’d taken comfort in some of the aspects of District life. For one, it was smaller and more personable. There was a unity amongst the people that he hadn’t seen anywhere in the Capitol. Max figured that the unity was great fuel for the rebellion. People knew each other and cared about their neighbors. They remembered faces and names and made small talk. Max found it to be quaint yet charming. The cafe fit into the larger theme. The waitress knew Jax’s name and order. After he’d given the same order - a large coffee, black - three times, it became automatic. Jax stared out the window for a moment as he waited for his drink. Spring was aging now, the trees full of leaves and the flowers fully in bloom. The days grew hotter, bringing with them the promise of Summer. Usually, the season was a relief, but now, it came bearing the promise of the first Hunger Games. It was one of the most frequent topics brought up by civilians in the Districts. They all seemed uneasy despite the beautiful weather. In the diner, though, it felt like life per usual. It felt like routine, like this could really be Jax’s life instead of some fake thing he’d constructed in the past couple months. Evelyn’s presence snapped him from his thoughts. Jax smiled up at her. ”Thanks,” he said, accepting the cup. ”How’s business?” he inquired, taking a sip of the too-hot liquid right after. Words: 503 Tags: Evelyn JaggerNotes: First posts are hard

It was a quiet, calm day for Evelyn. Usually her work was stressful with a lot of orders and customers to attend to but for the moment it was calm. She could even hear the birds chirp, something that wasn't all too common. Her days usually consisted of people gossiping about this and that, who's sleeping with who and the regular complaints about how boring life was. Yet for the time being, all she heard was the wind blowing in the trees nearby, birds chirping and her own steady breath. She was the only one working, with only one customer to attend to. His order was easy enough to make. She just had to pour him some coffee and while she did, she made a cup for herself as well. Lyn smiled as she approached him with his cup. "There you go", she said and was ready to turn back to the counter when he spoke. Her smile widened a little as her hands cupped around her coffee. "Well, from the looks of it you're the only one making it go around at the moment." She didn't really bother to ask him if she could join him before pulling out a chair and sitting down. She let out a relived sigh, only now realizing how tired her legs were. "Jokes aside, it's pretty good. Better than ever really. I think people are finally letting themselves relax." She didn't have to elaborate on what she meant. He knew for sure. During the war, everyone had been tense and it was quite a miracle that the café had been able to remain open. Evelyn took a sip from her coffee, before glancing back at him. "It was Jax right?" She was pretty good at names as well as faces, and his face wasn't really easy to forget. Too many faces were plagued from the war, but not his. Then there was the fact that he was one of the better looking ones in the district, which also made it pleasant to talk to him. She was still observant of the café, ready to get up at any moment if another customer entered. She highly doubted it though, as it was beginning to get late and everyone was probably at home with their families. The only possible explanation for his presence was that he didn't have a family to go home to. It wasn't any of her business though, so Lyn found herself biting down, careful not to pry. She wasn't one to talk without thinking first, but that didn't stop her from being curious.

Jax smiled as Evelyn took a seat near him, nursing a cup of coffee herself. It was an authentic gesture, one that he hadn’t seen in many other Districts. This part of 7 looked and felt like a community. Perhaps it was because during the war, everyone was too concerned with survival to consider much of anything beyond getting through each day. Now, people were rebuilding their homes and their factories and their lives. The edge was taken off everything, life settling back down to something that looked like everyone’s best guess at normality. He watched her from over the rim of his cup, settling back into his seat a little more. ”People are finally letting themselves relax,” she said, and a corner of Jax’s lips turned upward. If that and his dreamy vision of the District were true, then he wouldn’t be here in the first place. Most were relaxed, as Evelyn said, but not all were. The coffee shops and cafes looked average and harmless, but he knew that behind closed doors, citizens were still harboring resentment towards the Capitol. Some hadn’t accepted defeat and were not ready to resume life as usual. It was his job to sniff those people out, so why was he here, speaking to a girl that pretty clearly seemed to be out of any rebel group? Jax liked her smile, the way that she made two cups of coffee and took a seat automatically. He liked the blue dress she wore and the way her blonde hair looked against it. He also enjoyed this small talk. It allowed him to, in her words, relax. She wasn’t a target. Besides, who said his deployment to 7 had to be all work and no play? ( His commander.) ”Yeah,” he confirmed with a nod. He remembered her name since the first time he heard it. Her name tag made it easy enough, but he was also required to remember the names of those who he met with always. Even so, he smiled back. ”And you’re Evelyn?” he asked, taking another sip of coffee afterward. Words: 366 Tags: Evelyn Jagger

Evelyn smiled and took a sip of her coffee. "Sure am. What gave it away?" she grinned, knowing full well that her name tag was pinned to her dress. Putting her cup down, she began to absentmindedly run her finger along the rim of it. "Long days out there, huh?" she asked, tilting her head sideways if only to get a better look at him. Four years ago she would have closed the shop right then and there, brought out a bottle and then had all kinds of fun with a man as good looking as he was. But that was four years ago and a lot had changed since then. That didn't stop her from chuckling at the memory of those days though. "Sorry", she started, realizing how strange she might look. "Just remembered something", Evelyn smiled with a slight shake of her head. The bell chimed all of a sudden. Her head jerked up and soon her body had left the chair she previously sat on. Before the man in front of her could say a word, she'd already pushed him backwards. "You said you'd be gone for a week! Not a month!" Evelyn glared at her brother. Evander had a habit of disappearing, but he always came back when he said he would. She'd been worried sick because of him and he knew damn well why. "I'm sorry Lynn. The money was too good to say no to", he sighed before wrapping his arms around her. Pulling back with a grin, he opened his hand for her to see what he had in it. "We good now?" he asked hesitantly. She glared at the necklace he held, but gave in soon enough, a small smile beginning to play on her lips. "Only if it cost you more than a week's pay", she grinned and took it upon herself to put it around her neck. It was a pretty one, with a small emerald green diamond. Evander smiled and kissed his sister's forehead. He glanced at the man who was the only customer left. Looking back down at his sister, his smile turned into a smirk. "Don't do anything stupid", he whispered, knowing full well what his sister had been up to in her days. He received a punch to his arm in return. "Jerk", Lyn replied jokingly before turning more serious. "Don't leave like that again." She didn't have to explain what she meant. Evander nodded. "I'm sorry. See you tomorrow?" They agreed on a time and then he was gone again. Evelyn sighed a little before walking back to Jax. "Sorry about that. Anyways, where were we?" She took a sip from her coffee, giving herself some time to calm down from her racing heart. She was beyond relieved to know that Van was back, too afraid to even think about what she would have done if he would have left her too.

Evelyn’s smile reminded Jax of a Sunday in the summer. Warm, peaceful, still. He wanted to bask in it. “Hm, probably longer in here though, right? It’s too beautiful to stay inside all day,” Jax told her. Cutting down trees wasn’t easy or fun by any stretch of the imagination, but Jax loved being in the forest during the day. It was so still and calm there, the exact opposite of everything the Capitol was. As soon as the calm, peaceful feeling had settled, it lifted. Evelyn was out of her chair and to the door, yelling at some man. Jax’s first instinct was to whip out the gun he carried in a deep pocket in his pants. Guns, along with all other weapons, were illegal in the Districts. Jax’s weapons were for defense, though, and not to be used unless it was totally necessary. Jax wasn’t sent as a soldier but as a spy. Still, he didn’t like the situation one bit. He stood up from his seat, crossing his arms and standing tall as he watched very closely. To his surprise, Evelyn completely held her own. She backed the other man into the wall. At her first words, Jax tensed up a bit. Of course, it made perfect sense that someone as radiant as her wouldn’t be single. Jax didn’t expect it to sit so poorly with him, though. Evelyn was a pretty thing in an ugly place, but somehow he felt attached to her nonetheless. Jax sat back down but continued to watch as the man hugged her and presented her with a green jewel. Jax couldn’t stop himself from rolling his eyes. Evelyn wouldn’t believe the necklaces he could get for her in the Capitol. As Evelyn returned, Jax tried to make himself straighten up. Evelyn was just a waitress who was being friendly to him and doing her job. She didn’t owe him anything or have any feelings. Even if Evelyn was interested, Jax couldn’t get involved. He’d be out of the District as soon as he determined that he’d thoroughly assessed the environment. He took another sip of the coffee, letting it scald the tip of his tongue. Jax eyed the necklace around her throat. “Pretty necklace you’ve got there,” he told her. “Nice of your boyfriend to buy it for you.” Jax kept his expression and tone neutral, as if he didn’t really care one way or the other. He still was quite annoyed with himself for bringing it up though. Jax knew he should just finish his coffee and return back to his apartment for the night, leaving Evelyn and any ideas he had about her behind. Words: 477 Tags: Evelyn Jagger

Evelyn merely shrugged. " Not really. As long as I bring a book with me then it's alright I guess", she said before realizing that her brother was in the café. He didn't stay for more than 2 minutes but it was a relief nonetheless to see that he was alright. It wasn't unusual for Evander to take off and then come back. He was the complete opposite of her in that sense. When she could stay at home and read books, he always needed to do something. Staying in one place wasn't his thing, but he always came back home. Lyn returned back to the table after her brother left. She cringed when Jax spoke. "God, ew. Van is my brother." Evelyn laughed after that. What a strange thing to think. The thought was as repulsive as it could be, to think of her brother as her boyfriend. She shuddered at the thought and took a sip of her coffee. " But thanks", she added, remembering the comment about the necklace. She looked down at it. It was a pretty little thing, not to conspicuous but not too simple either. She smiled. "It's just this thing we have. Every time he leaves he has to bring something back. If he doesn't, there's no leaving next time", Evelyn explained. It had started out of nowhere and now it brought comfort to her. A bit of a promise in a way, that even if he goes away to the furthest end of the district, he'd always return and bring something with him.

Jax waited for Evelyn to answer, completely annoyed with himself for hanging on to the words that left her mouth as she spoke them. Jax was also annoyed with the feeling of relief that washed over him when she gave him his answer. A brother, not a boyfriend. He felt himself relax ever so slightly into his chair, the tension in his muscles that he hadn’t been aware of easing away. Jax sat his cup down on the table between them, curious at her mentioning his leaving. Travel between or out of any of the Districts was illegal without the Capitol’s approval. In some of the other Districts Jax worked in, he knew people who routinely traveled to the skirts of their District for food or other resources. It wasn’t his job to report small crimes like that, though. In his opinion, some of the Capitol’s laws were too strict. On the other hand, though, Jax caught a trader in 11 who traveled into 8 and 12 to sell guns and ammunition. That one did get reported. “You two seem really close,” he said with a smile, “that’s nice. Sounds like he’s traveling a lot though.” Jax kept his tone nonchalant and conversational. He sincerely doubted that there would be any real information of interest in Evelyn. She seemed like a totally normal citizen of District 7 - no plans to rip the Capitol apart brick by brick. Still, it helped him justify seeing her by bringing in the tiniest hint of his job. Words: 280 Tags: Evelyn Jagger

Evelyn nodded. "He's the one I'm closest to among my brothers. Got six of those", she said, not adding Eli to the count. She didn't even know if he was still alive. It's been twelve years since she last saw him and if he somehow made it out unscathed from the war, then he hadn't really made an effort to let her know he was alright. He was dead to her as far as she was concerned. There were days when she still woke up, hating him for leaving her. Other days she envied him. But the feeling of a piece of her missing never went away. Not even after twelve years. Lyn sighed and shrugged her shoulders. "Well yeah. He's always been that way, constantly needs something to do. So he takes on jobs on the outskirts of the district, works non-stop for weeks and then comes back home", she told Jax.

“Six brothers,” Jax echoed. “Wow. I can’t imagine growing up in such a big family.” He was born the only child to his parents. After he was born, having children was going out of vogue in the Capitol as everyone started to feel the first threats of impending war. Not many people were interested in bringing a child into the uncertain environment. Jax nodded at her mention of his work. “Yeah,” he said, nodding, “gotta work where the money is.” Jax often cited that as his reason for packing up and moving town to the people he’d gotten close with in an area - he’d found a better paying job on the other side of the District and was moving there to pursue it. That would probably be his excuse when he had to leave 7, too. For a single moment, Jax wondered if he would be having that conversation with Evelyn at some point. He titled his head to the side a bit as he looked at her. “Traveling for work isn’t fun, though. Must be nerve wracking for you.” There still wasn’t a final body count for the war. So many people seemed to just vanish from the Districts - no body found, never heard from again. Even though it had ended, the fear was still likely present. Words: 230 Tags: Evelyn Jagger

A smile grew on her lips. "Lets just say that I could probably take you on in a fight and win. So there are some perks to it", Evelyn grinned and finished the last of her coffee. She nodded after that. "Exactly." It wasn't like she made much money in the café, but it was enough to be comfortable. No excess, just enough to last the month out. She shrugged again after that. "Not really. At least, not anymore. I used to hate it at first, but now it's okay. It's times like this one, when he says he'll be back in a week but ends up being gone for a month that messes with my head." Why that was, wasn't something that she felt like sharing. This was all just small talk to her, the usual being nice to customers. She didn't always sit down with them and drink coffee though, but it happened from time to time when the café was quiet and calm.

A corner of Jax’s mouth curled upward. “Really? You think so?” Before he was sent undercover into the Districts, he’d fought in the war. Toward the end, as supplies dwindled and funs broke and jammed and ammunition ran out, more the of the combat became close range. Jax had slammed more people into the ground than he could possibly ever count. “If I were you,” he told her, “I wouldn’t be willing to place that bet on such a pretty face. Turns out that swinging an axe all day long really does wonders for the arms.” Jax could feel himself starting to edge over some imaginary line he’d drawn separating his work and his personal life. He laughed quietly and leaned back into his chair, relaxing further. Jax promised himself not to edge any further with her for the rest of the night. Jax nodded sympathetically. “It’s easy to get caught up in your work,” he affirmed. The first time Jax was sent into the Districts to start his new line of work, it was proposed as a single mission that was supposed to take place over 3 weeks tops. A year and a half later, he was still on the job. In that sense, it was good that he didn’t have anyone back at home waiting up for him. Jax glanced out the window, noticing how low the sun was getting in the sky. It would be dark soon, and he was supposed to send a report in to his Commander by the end of the day on his findings for the week. Jax slipped a few coins from his pocket and laid them on the table. “Well, it was nice talking, but I’ve got to get back for the night.” He stood up, looking at Evelyn again before leaving. “Have a good night, Evelyn.” Words: 320 Tags: Evelyn Jagger

Evelyn listened to Jax, her grin growing. "How typical of men to think it's all in the arms", she tsked and shook her head slightly. "That's precisely why I know I'd definitely win", she said with a laugh. She'd been forced to learn how to fight ugly. It never mattered how much she trained, she'd never been as strong as her brothers. That didn't mean she'd lost her fights with them though, she'd just had to learn how to use every body part and strike her opponent on their weakest spots. She didn't always win, but the fights had been even and they all knew not to count her out of the fight. "I guess so", Evelyn replied. She enjoyed her work, mostly because it allowed her to talk as much as she wanted to. She'd always been good at that. More often than not, Lyn had talked her way out of trouble and resorted to fighting if only necessary. Lyn looked up at him. "You too Jax." She smiled and walked behind him, locking down the café for the day. She hadn't even realized she'd kept it open for 30 more minutes than usual. Evelyn went on to clean up the place and make it ready for the next day. Tomorrow was her day off. Cleaning up had somehow given her an excess of energy and she didn't feel at all tired. So she did what any other sane person would do and decided to go to the bar that was closest by. She went up to her apartment before that though and changed into a pair of pants and a blouse. She tucked down a knife inside her boot before leaving, not really knowing what to expect. People were still desperate and she'd seen how ugly it could turn sometimes. It was easy to shrug it all off with the thought of a cold beer moving her legs to her next destination.

Jax returned to his apartment, still unable to think of the place as his home. It was small, dimly lit, and sparsely furnished. He spent the least amount of time there that he could possibly get away with. While he was there, he spent most of the time lusting for his apartment back in the Capitol. What was the use of having a stunning bachelor pad if he wasn’t able to use it? Jax went to the shelf on the back wall and picked up a book from amongst one of the stacks there. Jax actually enjoyed reading every once in a while, but this specific book was not for pleasure. He took it to the kitchen table with him and sat down. At first glance, the pages looked terribly water damaged. Jax pulled out his pocket knife, then slid the blade down the exact position that allowed him to open it. The book was actually not a book at all, but rather a container for a different book. Inside the hollowed pages rested his log for his observations in the Districts. With a sigh, Jax removed it and began to flip through the pages for the past week. He was tasked with making a report for the last week in the District. Across the spread for that time though, there was very little he could give them. It had been a very slow week, too slow to warrant Jax’s staying there if the lack of information persisted. But 7 was a relatively pleasant District, and he was sure that there was something lurking beneath the surface. 7 had been very actively involved in the rebellion, and ideas didn’t die out overnight. It was just up to him to find those final strands of resistance that we’re right beneath his nose. Jax finally pulled out the small phone that shared the space with his notebook and hit the single button that allowed him to contact the Capitol. The phone rang in to one of the databases. Jax, along with all the other rebel spies, reported their common findings there where they were complied and analyzed. ”Jax Funen, #48 reporting for week 38 in District 7,” he told the operator. Jax paused, glancing over the mostly empty pages. ”No major threats to report.” Jax flipped back to the spread from the week before. It was more of the same - almost nothing. He tapped a pen on the blank page, searching for something to give the operator. ”Contact established with a local… yes. Mhm. First name Evelyn, last name unknown. Blond hair, dark eyes, probably around the age of 20. Works in a coffee shop in Sector 3. Uh… mentioned 5 brothers?” Jax heard typing from the other line. Jax tapped his pen on the pad while he waited for the response. When it came, the pencil fell out of his hand. ”Jagger,” he repeated. ”And one of the six is… yeah… Elias Jagger. Holy shit.” Jax was quiet for a moment. ”Looks like I have my work cut out for me this week.” Jax closed the phone and replaced it in his stash. He stared at the cover of the “book” and tried to process what he heard. ———— A little while later, Jax decided to leave his apartment. He’d spent the last hour planning as much as he could for the impending information collection. The words on the pages before him were starting to blur - he only had so much work he could do at once. Jax needed a break, so he changed into clothes he hadn’t been out logging in and headed to a bar downtown. Jax had only been to the bar two times since he’d been in the District. He drank responsibly but still worried that while intoxicated, he might let his guard down a little too much. Still, one drink certainly wouldn’t hurt him too much. Jax walked to the bar, relishing in the nice warmth the evening still offered. Once there, he went straight to the end of the bar and ordered a whiskey. As he sipped, he thought about Evelyn and her family, about what it might mean for his work there. He had to somehow find a way to find out more about the Jaggers. Without thinking, Jax allowed the bartender to bring him another glass. Since he already had it and it would be on his tab, he decided to drink it anyway. Halfway to the bottom, he felt himself warming up and brushing the line of tipsy. Wanting to preoccupy himself with something other than the thoughts of work, Jax decided to scope out the room, perhaps to find a girl to chat up. Instead, he saw Evelyn as she walked through the door. Her face had been in his mind for the evening as he deliberated about his predicament. Now, she was entering the bar and looking right at him. All Jax could do was offer a half smile. Words: 846 Tags: Evelyn Jagger

Evelyn felt lightheaded the moment she stepped into the bar. It was the atmosphere around her, all the intoxicated people and their reek of alcohol. She remembered the days when she was intoxicated every hour of everyday. It wasn’t something that she wanted to go back to, that was certain. She’d learned how to drink responsibly the moment she moved out of her parents’ place, only then realizing that they had been the reason to her damaged relationship with alcohol. She shrugged off the thought and walked over to the bar, ordering a beer. It wasn’t until she realized that she was being watched that her whole body tensed. Lyn began to look around and upon seeing the source of the shivers dancing down her spine, she immediately smiled. Jax. Who would’ve thought. She grabbed her beer and walked over to him. “You again”, she said with a smile. “That kind of day huh?” Lyn asked and dropped down on the seat next to his before taking a sip from her beer. She smiled into the glass, relishing in the taste of the cold beer. Remembering their previous conversation, she began to grin. “Since you’re here, I should probably mention that I almost, just almost, am a little tempted to see who would win if we ever decided to have that fight”, she said with a big grin covering her face. She’d fought her brothers countless times and to fight someone else wasn’t really something that she felt afraid of. If anything, she was fairly certain that whoever came at her, she’d take them down and come out of it as the one with the least bruises.

Jax mirrored Evelyn’s smile as she approached him. ”That kinda day,” he affirmed as she sat down beside him. He sat his whiskey glass down onto the bar. ”Good thing you aren’t definitely tempted,” Jax told her, grinning, ”I never said anything about fighting drunk.” He’d done that before, of course. One of the reasons Jax didn’t drink frequently was simply because he did not like the loss of total control over his body. In his new line of work, though, alcohol was prone to get people talking. It was one of his most valuable weapons when trying to collect information. Jax decided that he would use the night to find out about Elias Jagger from Evelyn. There was associated guilt, of course, but the information could be so valuable. ”Since you’re here, I should probably mention that I’m surprised to see you out. Figured this wasn’t your scene.” Jax leaned back in his seat to look at her. It was strange to see her out of the uniform he was familiar with and in her own clothes. He liked the change. "Any other bold claims you can make of things you can beat me at while we're here?"

Evelyn just shrugged, still grinning. "Meh, drunk or not, if you know what you're doing then there's really no problem", she said. Her sadistic parents had trained her and her siblings to be able to fight in any sort of condition. Sometimes they'd even forced them to drink an excessive amount of alcohol and then pit them against each other, all to prepare them against whatever situation they found themselves in. That was how they'd explained everything they did to them. It was all to prepare them. The countless times in the woods with no food or water, the fights who'd ended up with broken bones and blood to fill entire buckets... It was all for the good of Panem. For the rebel cause. For the right thing. The memories of those things made her blood boil hot but if there was one thing she had to teach herself during that time, it was how to calm herself down. A couple of deep breaths and ironically enough, happy thoughts, and Evelyn was back to normal. Her brows furrowed, before she let a scowl slip out. "Yeah? What seems more like my scene then? Strip club? Book club maybe? Or the fight club in that basement two blocks away perhaps?" she asked, a smile beginning to play on her face. She enjoyed his company. it wasn't forced in any way and he seemed like a genuine guy. His next words made her laugh. She shook her head, wondering for a quick second what she could throw back at him. " Well... I'm pretty sure I'd win if we were to see who chugs a beer the quickest", Evelyn grinned. Her second eldest brother Ender had taught her the trick to it and to this day, it had never taken her longer than 4 seconds to get it all down. It had been her best party trick when she was still into partying.

Jax smiled inwardly at the sight of a scowl across Evelyn’s face. It was on expression he hadn’t ever seen on her before. He then laughed out loud at her suggestions. ”Book club for sure,” he told her, still laughing. ”I definitely wouldn’t put money on the likelihood of there being “Evelyn, the Dancer” or “Evelyn, the lightweight champ.”” Jax spent a good amount of his time trying to figure other people out. It was an important part of his work, reading people. Evelyn struck him as a homebody. Jax grinned at her assertion. ”Oh, is that a challenge?” He leaned forward, getting a little closer to her. ”Something you don’t know about me - I’m horribly competitive. Doesn’t matter what it’s about, I’m just addicted to winning.” It was one of the first honest things Jax told anyone in the District about himself. He was a master at making up quick lies and stories and making them convincing. It was rare that he said something truthful about himself in conversation. Jax turned to the bartender. ”Two beers,” he told the man. He looked back to Evelyn. ”Time to see if you’re worth your salt, sweetheart.”Words: 220 Tags: Evelyn Jagger

Evelyn feigned disgust. "How boring", she said and rolled her eyes. She loved books, sure, but she wasn't sure if she liked that she seemed to be more of a book club girl than one who ends up at bars. If only he'd seen her a few years ago. She couldn't help but laugh when he started coming up with names. "You know, I was actually called "Lyn the Dancer" at one point in my life", she told him without delving more into the subject. He didn't have to know the story behind it. In fact, it would be fun to see him want to know more. "Isn't everything in life?" she grinned. "Please, try growing up as an only girl with 6 brothers. All I've ever known is competition so I guess we'll see who's the most horrible." It was all true. It didn't matter if it had been her pitted against her eldest brother that was 8 years older than her. Her parents had made sure that no one surrendered until absolutely necessarily and they'd even punish her if she didn't manage to win. Evelyn met his gaze and slid the glass closer to herself. "Alright then big boy. Cheers", she said and held up the glass, clinking it against his before nodding for him to begin.

”Lyn the Dancer?” Jax echoed. ”Wow,” he affirmed, ”sure that’s a sight to see.” He paused for a second, grinning as he looked at her, ”Might have to adopt that nickname for you though.”Jax smiled as she mentioned her family again. She didn’t seem to keep their existence to guarded, like her brother wasn’t on the Capitol’s most wanted list. Getting information a little later in the night would be easy. His competitiveness came from his father who was a new money family in the Capitol. His dad busted his ass to get where he was and raised Jax to have the same hardworking spirit. Not that Jax could ever tell Evelyn that. Almost as soon as the drinks came, Evelyn started drinking. Much to his surprise, she emptied her glass just before he did, the clink of her glass hitting the table sounding just before his. ”Damn,” he said, looking at her, ”True to your word, Lyn. My pride’s wounded. Still, though, I’d say that I am clearly the most horrible between us. I know - and I know this for a fact - I can absolutely kick your ass in arm wrestling.”Words: 213 Tags: Evelyn Jagger

"Don't you dare", Evelyn laughed and shook her head. She'd tried to put those days behind her and luckily, she didn't hang around with the same crowd as she did back then so there really was no way for the story behind the name to reach anyone's ears. As soon as the glass reached her lips, Lyn chugged down the beer as if her life depended on it. She knew her pride did at least. She put the glass down with a thud, her arms shooting up towards the ceiling in celebration with a big grin on her face. "Told ya", she said. She began to shake her head. "Yeah, absolutely not. I'm not agreeing to anything I don't have a chance at winning", she told him and took a sip of her beer. There was no point in arm wrestling. She knew he'd win with his arms being almost double the size of hers. "How about dart? Winner gets a free drink." Evelyn looked back at him, a smirk playing on her lips. She could already sense the direction they were going in.
