Eli carried a plate of pancakes and coffee up the stairs to Lia's apartment. It seemed odd to be bringing these things to her, perhaps she didn't want to see him at all after what he did yesterday. He felt bad just leaving her there, but he was sure she was okay. She wasn't too hurt, from what little he could see after they'd escaped the building. Emilia had to get out of there though, no one could see her and at the moment, that was all he cared about. It was selfish of him, to trick her and leave. But he felt he had no choice at the time. Looking back at it now, he could have have taken him with her to their apartment. But she was already a risk even before the incident. He wasn't sure he could trust her. He knocked on the door, remembering exactly which one it was though the first time he'd gotten there was through stumbling in the darkness in between kissing her. The memories of that night were already faded into the background, replaced with something raw and painful. Everything with her was a mistake, he had to remember that. She was a risk and Emilia would be in danger for it. But he had to at least make sure she was okay. Just one visit and he wouldn't seek her out anymore. "It's me," he said after a second knock. Lia didn't have much memory of what happened after she'd gotten in the shower. She just knew the facts and that was that she was sitting on the couch now, her legs pressed to her chest. Her arm throbbed and if she'd bothered to do anything other than stare at the wall, she'd notice the red swelling around her shoulder. But Lia didn't do anything other than stare at the wall. She wasn't really sure if she'd fell asleep earlier or not, she just felt lonely. There was the emptiness and all the memories. Most of them were happy memories from her childhood, until the moment they weren't. Things from her past, people and nightmares were playing on repeat inside of her head and she didn't bother to get herself out of that maze. Part of her felt like she deserved it. For pushing people away, for walking so far ahead her family that when the bomb fell, she didn't die with them. Tears began to roll down her cheeks, like they'd done so many times before. She felt numb to the outside world and didn't hear the knocks on her door. She had her back facing the front door as she sat in the living room. The only thing that she could hear was the same song that had been playing on repeat since she came back home the other day. She just didn't seem to care anymore.

The door moved in as he said it. Did she forget to close it? Or perhaps someone was in there with her, or without her. The worst possible things to have happened flashed across his eyes. He pushed the door open completely and walked in, "Lia?" His voice was loud in the quiet apartment. Then he saw a figure sitting on the couch. He took another step to get a better look, he knew her figure anywhere. Closing the door, he moved into the living room and faced the couch so that he was standing in front of her. "Lia?" he said again, this time softer. He knelt on the floor, putting the coffee and pancakes on the table beside him. "What's the matter, are you okay?" Eli studied her, noting the marks on her body. She was more hurt than he thought she was. He should have paid more attention. He shouldn't have left her. All the resolve he had prior to coming inside her apartment went out the door. His hands touched her arm gently and then her shoulder where it swelled and large bruise formed. Lia didn't realize that there was someone in the apartment with her until that someone was kneeling down in front of her. She blinked a couple of times. She was a daydreamer and had been since a young child but there was always the part of getting out of one of those dreams. Confusion was a large part of that and for a few moments she just stared at him, not really processing what he was saying or how he was there. She turned her head to try and figure out what had been going on but the movement just caused her more pain. She groaned loudly, her fingers grabbing onto the couch as she tried to breathe through the pain. Looking back at Elias, she vaguely remembered that he'd asked her a question. "I- I don't know." Her voice was hoarse and dry. "Everything hurts", she added and couldn't help but follow his hand with her eyes when he touched her shoulder. She wanted to ask what he was doing here and why he'd left her alone the same morning but for the moment she was just grateful and happy to see him again.

There was something inside him that rattled at the sight of her. Like something become unattached to a part of his body. Something breaking and hallowing at the same time. He pulled his hand away and stood up slowly. He walked briskly to the kitchen. It didn't take him long to find a glass and then fill it up with cold water. Then he went back to her, glass in hand. He should have come sooner, but there was nothing he could do about that now. "Here, drink," he said. He doubted she had anything in her stomach now. It didn't seem as if she moved at all after coming home. It was possible that she was already dehydrated, which would worsen her condition. He looked about the apartment and spotted a door that seemed to lead to the bathroom. "Do you have any medicines?" he asked, already walking towards the bathroom. "Pain killers or anything like that?" he asked and rummaged through the cabinets. Medicines were still difficult to come by, even after a year after the war. Even something as simple as pain killers cost twice as much as food. Eli walked back to her with a small cloth towel and a warm bowl of water. WC: 212 TAG: Jezelia Lennox

Lia shrunk back when his hand left her shoulder, suddenly feeling cold again. She didn't bother asking where he was going before he returned with a glass of water. She hadn't realized how thirsty she was until she tasted it on her tongue, then chugging it in just a few seconds. She nodded at his next question. "The drawer next to the sink", she replied and carefully grabbed the blanket that was on the other side of the couch. Lia already knew what sudden movements did to her body and if she could, she'd avoid the pain that came with it. Letting out a sigh, she wrapped the blanket around herself with caution. A crease formed between her brows and she wasn't sure if it was done in despair or in anger. She felt angry with the world and herself and everything there was in between but at the same time she felt sad. She knew that there was so much that could be done, that she could do but she still couldn't find it in herself to do it. Mostly she was afraid of failing because failing meant that she would be caught and then probably executed. Whatever it was, it made her mind spin more than it already had. The fact that Elias was there didn't make it any better. She wanted to know why and the best way of finding out was to ask. She'd learned that a long time ago. "Why are you here Elias?"

He handed her the pills and the glass of water, "take these. It'll help ease the pain." Eli watched her wrap herself up in a blanket. He got up from the table and sat on a chair nearby. A part of him wanted to be there, but another part didn't. This was something he'd been trying to avoid since leaving The Capitol. Getting close to people always ended up with them getting hurt. He wasn't sure what caused the explosion in the book shop. Perhaps someone didn't want that book shop to remain open anymore. Perhaps someone knew they were there. Or perhaps, it was just all an accident and this entire thing was a coincidence. "I thought you'd like something to eat, or rather Emilia thought you'd like something to eat. The coffee part was my idea," he said nodding to the plate and cup on the coffee table in front of them. "I wasn't sure if you liked banana or strawberry so I made both." Eli almost got up. It was clear that this whole thing was awkward. He should just walk out now. Out of the apartment. Out of her life. It was a large district, they wouldn't have to see each other again. But he remained seated. WC: 212 TAG: Jezelia Lennox

Lia merely nodded when he told her to take the pills. It even hurt to swallow them down with water, all because of her lack of talking and moving the past 24 hours. In her mind, only a couple of hours had passed but she didn't know that. When he told her why he was there, she couldn't help but look down at her knees as disappointment began to slowly creep up on her. She didn't even know why she felt that way, but perhaps she'd just hoped for a different answer. She smiled a little though. "I like both, so that's a pretty good call on your end", she replied and looked up at him. It felt weird to have someone in her apartment while sober and even more weird to have someone who'd been there once before. That was something that had never happened before but there had to be a first time for everything. Jezelia sighed a little and reached out for the coffee. She had to stop midair though, jolts of pain running from her shoulder to every inch of her body. She winced and groaned and had to lean back on the couch. Looking at her shoulder was far more of a shock than she thought it would be. She'd never seen it like that and even though it hurt like a b*tch, she couldn't help but touch it. Cussing underneath her breath, she looked at Elias. "I think it's dislocated." Her shoulder looked weird and her entire arm hung differently and had she been in her right mind before, she probably would have noticed it earlier. "Fix it please?" she asked Elias, though she didn't really wait for him to answer her before she took a part of the blanket and bit down on it. She remembered when her sister's shoulder had gotten dislocated and the scream that had come from her little body... Lia shivered, figuring it was best to bite down on something.

Eli watched her pained movements. She was more badly injured that he thought. Perhaps it was all the adrenaline of that day that allowed her to move quicker than she should have had she felt the real extent of the pain she was actually in. He tried not to move. Tried not to reach out to her or help her in any way. He knew he owed Emilia's life to her. Would she be alive in Lia hadn't been there? Were the injuries that Lia had meant for Emilia? He should try to help her, he knew he owed it to her. But reasons behind the attack lingered in his mind. Even if she wasn't intentionally dangerous, she still posed a threat. Scanning her apartment, he looked back at her when she asked him to fix it. He looked at her shoulder, trying to keep his face blank. It was bad. And whatever he did, it would hurt. Eli leaned forward, looking at the shoulder closer. He looked up at her, "are you sure you wouldn't rather go to a doctor?" He'd patched people up before, out of necessity. He'd also had to patch himself up quite a bit from all his injuries in the past. Eli was sure he could push her shoulder back into place, but he didn't have the gentleness or finesse for it. Lia let out a big sigh and took out the piece of the blanket from her mouth. Her eyes met his and they were probably the most tired they'd ever been. "Eli... I'm exhausted. It hurts. So much-" Talking about her injuries turned out to be a really bad idea. It made it all the more real and most of the pain that she'd been able to ignore by entering her own bubble was gone now. Tears of pain and exhaustion began to trickle down her face. "Please." She'd never been one to beg, no matter what it was about, but this time she found herself left with no other option. Going to a doctor would mean she'd have to walk and with every step she'd have to take, she'd end up feeling jolts of pain rushing through her body. Her only option was for Elias to help her. Without waiting for his answer, Lia closed her eyes and bit down on the blanket again. She was shaking, absolutely terrified of the pain she was in. A part of her was more afraid that he wouldn't do it and she'd be left with the pain in her shoulder for an unknown amount of time. Yet somehow she knew he'd do it. She didn't know whether to call it trust or something else, but she knew he'd help her.

She looked desperate. It was something he always had a hard time with. Women who pleaded for his help. What was it about them that drew him in? He wasn't a hero. Far from it, even if The Capitol had named him so. He looked her in the eyes, those dark pools that stared back at him. When she bit down on the piece of blanket, moved closer to her. "It'll be better if you lie down," he said and helped ease her down the sofa until she was on her back. He put his hands on her arm. Eli didn't need to tell her this would hurt, he was sure she knew. But Eli also knew that talking to her would help, it would at least give her some sort of distraction so her she wouldn't be a hundred percent focused on the pain. "Thanks for what you did for Emilia," he said, his hands holding her arm tight as he began to pull. "I don't know what I would have done if anything happened to her. She wanted to come here and tell you thank you in person, but I told her you probably weren't feeling too well just yet." WC: 203 TAG: Jezelia Lennox

Lia nodded slightly to what he said and tried to think of anything but the pain that would come. To think about what was infront of her wasn't really the best option either, considering that that was Elias and she was currently lying down on it, with him way closer than he'd been in the past weeks. Last time they'd been this close... Well, things had ended in an unexpected but pleasurable way. Somehow that provided all the distraction that she needed, that was until the point he started pulling at her arm. She screamed into the blanket, refusing to make it any louder than that. The pain that followed caused her to cry and she'd never thought she'd be able to go from nothing to sweaty in just matters of seconds. Her chest was heaving as she tried to get her breathing back to normal, her eyes clenched shut as if that provided any help. It didn't really, but it made it easier to think 'one and two' and then breathe accordingly. When her eyes opened, she took out the now soaking wet blanket which was probably the most unattractive thing ever. She wiped at her mouth with the dry part, before throwing it behind the couch and onto the floor. "Thank you", Lia said. She remembered what he'd said about Emilia and smiled a little. "Of course. She's a good kid. She's also been through enough from what she told me, so the last thing to add to that were physical injuries."

It was almost unbearable to see her in so much pain and he was glad when it was all over. He'd had a dislocated shoulder before so he knew how much it hurt. He went to her fridge and grabbed an ice pack for her before sitting down on the seat again. The words she said next were unexpected. His blood ran cold and his muscles tensed. He looked at her for a moment, not moving. He wasn't sure if he was even breathing. "What-uh- what did she tell you?" he asked, his body moving forward in the seat. A scowl set on his face. Emilia knew the dangers of telling people things that they didn't need to know, telling them things of their past, of who they were, of who she was. Had he not been thorough about it? Had he not lectured her enough? She had to understand, he thought she understood. His eyes didn't leave Lia's, he needed to know what she knew. And if she would lie about it. He was going back and forth with his emotions for her. Between wanting her and wanting nothing to do with her. What he wanted and what he needed were two different things. WC: 206 TAG: Jezelia Lennox

Despite the pain that jolted through her body in waves, it was somewhat easy to focus her attention on Elias. Her eyes watched him attentively, noticing every change in his demeanor the moment her words reached his ears. What Emilia had told her was apparently a secret and from the looks of him it was a well kept one. She'd known something was off when Emilia told her everything, the way she'd been uncertain and how she'd been so careful with every word despite the fact that they'd been close to dying. A part of her didn't want him to know everything that she knew, but at the same time, she knew that if she let something out he'd probably just go home and ask Emilia about it and apparently, the little girl had a difficult time keeping secrets. Lia sighed a little. "She told me what happened in the capitol. You saved her, her dad was the very definition of f*cked up, he killed her mom... And now you're hiding." Lia said the last part carefully. She knew what a temper he could have and for whatever reason, she didn't want that to be the case now. The pain was beginning to fade with the painkiller working its magic but that didn't mean she had the energy to deal with whatever he'd throw at her for knowing. "Don't blame her", she said, defending the little girl that she'd grown so fond of. Her hand reached for his, squeezing it a little. It wasn't until she held his hand that she realized what she'd done. She pulled her hand back, keeping her mask on as if she was unaffected by what she'd just done. Truth was it made her feel awkward, but it didn't show. "She said that you trusted me and that meant she could trust me. That you'd never been late and that that proved her point. She also said..." Lia stopped mid-sentence. She wanted to punch herself in the face. There was no use of telling him that. Hell, she didn't even want to know the answer. She shook her head a little. "Were you a soldier?" she ended up asking, remembering what Emilia had told her about a blast and then Eli being there to save her.

It was amazing how Lia dealt with the pain. He knew a lot of people who would be screaming and crying right now from what injuries she had. And truthfully, she was lucky that all, at least from what he saw, of her injuries were evident from the beginning. If there was internal bleeding of any sort, he didn't see it. She'd need a hospital at that point and he wasn't sure how she'd take to that. Eli made sure to watch her closely, she was tough. And that toughness could also bring her trouble. She could be hurting inside to the point that she'd need professional help, and not even realize it. He listened to her, his eyes never leaving hers now. The eyes told everything, he knew that from experience. He'd had his share of liars and deceivers and though he didn't think that Lia was one of those, he'd been wrong before. He'd been so wrong when it counted the most. It made him not trust his gut sometimes because in truth, if Eli let his guard down, he was easily manipulated. She wasn't lying. Logically, technically, he didn't see hints of lies. And his gut? His gut didn't tell him she was lying either. Eli gave her one nod, not really agree nor disagreeing, just acknowledging what she had said. "She was scared, she told she thought that you both would die there," he confessed. Anyone who was that scared and thought their death was within seconds would have done what she did. Eli had so many things he wanted to tell her, to tell someone, just to get it out and free himself. But he wouldn't. "What did she say?" he pressed, his body moving to the edge of the seat. He looked to the side, towards the wall where there was window. It only took him a moment to realize what he'd missed all along. She'd asked if he was a soldier. There were many, in every district, it wouldn't have been an odd question to ask anyone. But this time, it was. Because he was finally able to connect the events. The concert when she flipped her entire demeanor and the question she asked now. "You were upset, weren't you? When you realized I wasn't from District 1," he didn't her answer her question, not directly at least. But he had a feeling she already knew the answer. WC: 406 TAG: Jezelia Lennox

Lia didn't say anything for a few moments. She just sat there in silence, not really caring about the fact that he might find the silence unsettling. She just remembered her own reaction that day and how hard it had hit her, thinking that everything he was was bad. A disturbing amount of bad, only to find out that she was wrong. Maybe he'd been a soldier for the capitol, but no one truly loyal would have deserted, right? Even if he'd been loyal before, then he couldn't be now? She remembered how her family had been during the war. They'd never picked a side, just trying to survive. But she knew that her family had dealt with loyalists and it wasn't until tragedy hit her that she switched sides. What if had been the same for him? Then could she really blame him? Trying to find a pattern in what she knew proved to be a lot more confusing than she'd initially thought. It ended up with Lia sighing, once again realizing that it was just easier to ask. She nodded before answering him. "I never thought anyone had ended up here by running away. I thought you'd gotten transferred her for your excellent behavior and service during the war." Her voice dripped with irony at the last part, before an eye roll followed. She couldn't help but scoff before growing more serious. "I'm sorry", she continued, still ignoring his question about what Emilia had told her. " I shouldn't have made that assumption based on, well... nothing really", she said and met his gaze. Lia had never been one to pry but she couldn't go on without knowing where his loyalties were. There was no way for her to be friends with someone who supported the Capitol, and this time she wanted to know for sure before reacting. "You don't support them anymore do you?" She didn't have to specify who she meant with them, she was fairly sure he already knew.

Lia was dangerous and she didn't even know it. It frustrated him to the point that he had to stand up and walk to the window. He looked out of it and at the great city beyond them. The buildings started out short the closer they were to him, then as he looked on farther and farther away, they grew taller. The center of the city was right outside her window. His own apartment building hid behind one of the tallest ones. It was amazing how much of the city they'd rebuilt in a year. All the technology and machines that build the city in a year. No matter how many buildings they brought up, there was nowhere to hide. "I'm not on anyone's side. Just mine and Emilia's," he said finally with his back still to her. "It's true, I'm not from here. But this is our home now and I can't risk Emilia's safety. So if it's all the same to you, I'd rather not talk about this anymore. It's safer this way," he said with finality. He waited a moment then turned to her. Lia was unpredictable and he wasn't sure if she'd let it go or keep pressing. He owed her Emilia's life, but where did the line end? "You should get some rest," he walked back to her. "I can get you something stronger than this if you need it," he looked at the bottle of painkillers he'd given her earlier. It was only after he'd said it that he regretted offering. She drank, a lot. What if she got addicted to the pills, too? Or she mixed it with alcohol. He had no idea what she'd do and he couldn't be here all the time to take watch her. He wasn't anything to her, after all. Just some guy she slept with. Hell, he wasn't even sure if she wanted him around right now. WC: 324 TAG: Jezelia Lennox

Lia frowned when he got up and walked towards the window. She couldn't help but roll her eyes. He was like a little child sometimes and she never knew how he would react to things. It was somewhat annoying, not knowing where she had him. On second thought, she'd probably should've kept her mouth shut and not asked him such a sensitive question. Lia scoffed, a smirk beginning to play on her lips as she realized that pretty much everything about him annoyed her. " I know. Hell, I think I even know where you're actually from." She should've kept her mouth shut this time too but Lia didn't really care. She remembered what he'd told her that night of the concert and based on that information, she'd been able to rule out pretty much 10 out of 12 districts, which left only two that fit the description. But then, he'd let a little too much slip, harmless talk really, which left her with only one district. She couldn't help the glare that followed next. It was an insult to her, that he'd even think that she was a threat to Emilia. "Clearly, I'd die for her so if you really think I'm a threat to her then you know where the door is. But it's good to know how little you think of me. I guess I have to thank you for finally letting me know." She knew that she was overreacting but it still hurt to hear that he thought she'd somehow pose a threat to their living in district 1. Who the hell would she tell anyways? Whether it was the rebels or the capitol that they were running away from, she wasn't one to snitch. Snitches get stitches, that's what she'd always told her little sister when she wanted to run to their parents to tell on Lia.

He looked up at her, studying the way she spoke when she told him she probably knew where he was from. He crossed his arms again, "Doesn't really matter does it? I can't go back there." He looked out the windows as if 'there' was just right outside these walls. But it wasn't. It was hundreds of miles away, maybe thousands, he wasn't sure. His traveling from District 7 to where he was now was a staggering, stumbling mess. If this was still back in the old days when they told stories of people's journeys, he was sure he'd have some ballads written of his journey. He'd lead an eventful life that was full of pain and disappointment, but now he had Emilia. When he turned to her, he fought the urge to scoff. "You know, you have a habit of taking things the wrong way. It's like we can't have a conversation with you twisting my words around, because I never said you'd hurt her. If you actually listened to me, you'd know that I just don't want to talk about it because the more I say, the more you'll know. And it's not even anything personal, I just-- f*ck! I just don't want you to get hurt! But clearly, we're speaking different languages, so what's even the point?" Eli's voice rose to a level that he'd never spoken to with Lia before. He was frustrated and he regretted even coming here. Why was she trying to pick fights with him? He was trying to do what was right and he felt she was doing everything in her power to undermine him. Lia merely shrugged at his reply. She didn't care if he went back or not, she hadn't even implied on him going back. A part of her just wanted him to know that she wasn't as clueless as she seemed and that whatever she did know, was going to stay with her. Yet somehow, he seemed to think that she was somehow a threat to Emilia's safety. At least that's how she interpreted his words and after that it just stuck. It stuck and it hurt and when things hurt, Lia tended to get defensive and pretty much shut herself off to any rational thoughts. She glared at him when his voice rose. How very predictive. She did however realize that maybe she'd been wrong to say what she said but there was the part of her who was too proud to admit it. She couldn't help but feel angrier by the second and before she knew it, she'd grabbed one of the pillows and threw it at him with her healthy arm. Lia winced when the movement somehow made itself known in her other arm, but it was easy to ignore the pain now. "You're a world class asshole, do you know that?!" She yelled back and sat upright in the couch. "I know. Okay? I know things about you and Emilia. Do you really think that I'm safer without knowing? Do you even think I care about being safe? If I did, I wouldn't be living in this neighborhood, would I? I could move, in an instant and be back on the fancy block but I. Don't. Care." Lia spat out the last part before she shrunk back in the couch. God how she wished she could cross her arms. She was still glaring at him when she spoke again. "Why do you even care if I get hurt? What am I to you?" Lia regretted her questions the moment they came out but it was too late now. She had to know, didn't she?
